About this property

If you are looking for a special place to stay for your break in the South-East of Sicily, then Carob Tree is the perfect choice. Whether you want to explore the local countryside, relax on the beach or visit historic towns and villages, there is plenty to see and do in the area.

This modern yet comfortable villa is all on one level, accessed through the vast entrance hall. The heart of the home is the open-plan living and dining room which leads in to the contemporary fitted kitchen, this is a great social space for eating together or relaxing over a glass of wine. There are 2 bedrooms at the villa, both of which have double beds and a TV, plus modern en-suite bathrooms. As well as being lovingly decorated, the house has Wi-Fi and air-conditioning available throughout.

The garden here really lends itself to outdoor living and with the warm climate you may find that you spend much of your time outside. You can even choose to cook outdoors as there is a second kitchen located in the garden plus a covered dining table and comfy lounge seating. Also in the large garden there is a salt water infinity pool lined with sun loungers and the grounds are filled with native plants and lawned areas. From wherever you are in the garden you can take in the staggering views of the surrounding fields as you relax in the sun.

There are a number of charming villages and towns in easy reach of the villa, the closest being Rosolini which is 7km away. Though there is a supermarket closer than this. Rosolini is a relatively new town for Sicily as it was founded in the 15th century and largely constructed by local princes over the following centuries. Today you can visit 2 lovely churches- the Baroque Church of Madre di San Giuseppe and the Church of Santissimo Crocifisso with its impressive bell towers. There are also ancient ruins belonging to earlier settlements and the Ethnographic Museum where you can find out about local life and the founding of the town. Rosolini is also a wonderful place to visit just to sit out on Piazza Garibaldi enjoying some of the much-loved ricotta stuffed ravioli.

For a wider range of shops and eateries you can drive to Ispica which is 11.5km away and is a beautiful city which was constructed in a unique Sicilian Baroque style after an earthquake destroyed the area in the 17th century. Some of the must-see attractions include the Palazzo Belmonte which is now the town hall and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. The city is perched on a hilltop and in the surrounding hills you can also find a fantastic archaeological park and a number of caves to explore. This area is known for its farming and some of the locally grown products include carob, olives and almonds, you can sample these goods at little family-owned restaurants or at one of the many food festivals held on the pretty piazzas. There are also music and medieval festivals held here throughout the year.

After all of the sightseeing you may need a day at the coast to recharge. One of the closest beaches is Pozzallo beach which is 20km away from the villa, this sweeping sandy bay has clear shallow water for swimming and plenty of beach clubs with sun loungers and bars. There are also beach sports and water sports on offer here. For quieter coves why not visit picturesque Marzamemi which is 30km away and is a quaint fishing village.

The South-East of Sicily is an idyllic holiday destination; with a stunning, endless coastline, a rich history and of course delicious food, you will have everything you need in easy reach of the villa.

Surrounding Carob Tree, you will find lush countryside which you can explore on foot by following one of the many scenic walking trails, for example you can head out on a hike around the Iblei mountains or if you would prefer then why not hire a bike. Another lovely way to see more of the natural landscape is to book on to a horse trek through the hills. Visit the beaches dotted along the expansive coast for a day of sunbathing and paddling in the crystal-clear sea. The nearest beach to the villa is Pozzallo beach which is 20km away and ideal for a family day trip as there are beach clubs and water sports on offer but quieter spots for swimming too. The protected bays of the Vendicari nature reserve (22km away) are an idyllic location for a picnic, taking in the breath-taking sea views and looking out for local wildlife.

Though the villa is rurally situated, you do not need to travel far to pick up some groceries or to find a restaurant for dinner. You will find a good choice of cafes, restaurants and shops in the nearest village Rosolini which is just 7km away. This historic village has some ornate churches you can visit as well as a museum with some fascinating exhibits. Rosolini is also a great spot for enjoying breakfast in the main square and shopping at the artisan shops.

Another fantastic place to visit is the city of Modica which is 15km away and is a unesco World Heritage site, nestled in a mountain gorge. The whole hillside is scattered with pretty houses with striking red roofs and you will spot palaces and churches on the hill as you enter the city. The area was under Spanish rule for hundreds of years, which is still reflected in its architecture today. The Castello dei Conti looks down over the city from the very top of the rocky hill, this 13th-century castle is open to visitors, a great tip is to go at the end of the day to watch an incredible sunset from the towers. The Duomo di San Giorgio is another must-see attraction, this enchanting church is known as Sicily’s most attractive and it also has a sweeping staircase of 250 steps which joins the old town to the newer part of town. Aside from incredible architecture, Modica is also famous for its chocolate which has been produced here for 400 years following recipes brought over from Latin America, some of the chocolate even uses local wine as an ingredient. Chocolate lovers should stop at the Museo del Cioccolato di Modica to learn about how it is produced.

Other options for day trips include Noto which is a town known for its staggeringly beautiful centre and is 21km away or head to Syracuse to see the amazing Roman ruins, the city is 57km away!
