About this property

Nestled within the rugged volcanic terrain, in the hills of Lipari Island, you will find Villa Muria. This bright and spacious home has plenty of room to sleep up to eight guests across the main villa and an annexe and offers amazing views over the sea and some of the neighbouring islands. There are seven islands in the Aeolian archipelago which can be explore by taking a boat trip or you could spend your time just getting to know Lipari.

The villa sits in a leafy garden filled with trees and Mediterranean vegetation, so you will be able to enjoy the scents of jasmine as you unwind on the terraces. The garden is the perfect place to relax with outdoor living and dining areas and hammocks which all look out towards the dazzling blue sea as well as the nearby hills. The garden is shared between the main villa and annexe as the two dwellings are just a few steps away from each other.

Heading indoors, the main villa is a stunning home which has been carefully decorated by the designers. The neutral tones of the walls are a calming backdrop to the high-quality furnishings, statement sculptures and art work. The linens and soft furnishings share the same prints to tie everything together beautifully, using the colours of the sea and of the local lemons. The home owners also strive to create an eco-friendly home so an emphasis is put on recycling, composting and collecting rain water in order to protect this pristine island.

In the main house you can find a large living room with sofas, a dining table, TV and garden access, this winds around in to a modern, fully-fitted kitchen which is equipped with everything you could need for making meals and drinks for your group. This area is the social heart of the home and is where guests can gather together in the evenings. There are also three bedrooms with double beds in the main villa which are served by two contemporary family bathrooms.

If you are travelling with a couple or grandparents who would prefer a bit of their own space, they could opt to sleep in the independent annexe which is just a stone’s throw away from the villa’s main building. It offers a spacious double bedroom, a bathroom and a furnished terrace which is the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee while listening to the birds.

As you gaze over at hills and the sea beyond, you will notice that the home is surrounded by nature. From the villa you are able to access extensive walking trails through the volcanic terrain, ancient farmland and wild Mediterranean planting. Whether you fancy a short stroll or a long hike, there are lots of sign posted routes available.

As well as the incredible internal landscape, Lipari also offers countless sandy beaches. The closest beach, Valle Muria, is just 1km away and is known as one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole archipelago so it is wonderful to have it so close.

If you would like to go out for dinner or explore the pretty, old town, you are only 5km away from Lipari town. As the whole island has a perimeter of 30km, you will able to see plenty of it while here, either by car or by bus.

Lying off the coast of Sicily there is a collection of seven charming islands known as the Aeolian Islands. Lipari is the largest of the group and is most populated with around 10,000 people living here. It offers breathtaking beaches and quiet rural areas but also a lively town and smaller villages you can explore.
Lipari is a volcanic island with a unique landscape scattered with natural pumice and obsidian rocks which were mined here for centuries by the locals. You do not need to worry however as there has been no volcanic activity here for 1500 years! These days you can simply traverse the incredible terrain created by volcanic eruptions on scenic walks through the hills.

The island is a haven for hikers and you can choose to walk through the staggering interior or along the coast, one popular route is to walk from Lipari, along the coastal paths and up to Monte Mazzuni. This route is around 5km long and great for all abilities. Experienced hikers can head inland through rocky ground and caves on a 12km adventure.
If you prefer to enjoy your time outdoors relaxing on a pristine beach, you are in luck as Valle Muria is a mere 1km from the home. The beach is a long stretch with pebbled and sandy areas and backs on to towering cliffs, it is known as one of the finest beaches on the island.

Spiaggia di Canneto (9km away) is a great spot for swimming, diving and water sports, while Spiaggia Bianca is a stunning white beach lined with sun loungers and parasols and is set 11km away from the villa.
After a busy day at the beach, why not head out to dinner in Lipari town which is 5km away from the villa. It is a bustling place with streets packed with colourful buildings and shops. In town you can pick up fresh produce in the supermarket, shops and market stalls or you can shop for gifts and souvenirs such as locally made crafts or delicious Malvasia wine.

The town is steeped in over a thousand years of history and was once a Greek settlement. You can sense the history of the area as you gaze up at the imposing Castello and its walls which extend around parts of town. You can also see historic churches, visit the brilliant archaeological museum and explore the cathedral as you stroll around the maze-like streets. As you work your way down to the water front you can see Lipari’s two busy ports and enjoy a seafood dinner with a view.
As Lipari is one of seven islands, a delightful option for a day trip is to take a boat to one of the other islands. The closest is Vulcano and you can reach this island in under half an hour. Here, you can climb to the top of one of the island’s volcanoes, where you will find the huge crater, the Cratere della Fossa. If this sounds a bit too energetic, you could visit the mud baths on the island or relax on the gorgeous beaches.

Another popular island you could visit for the day is Panarea which is also around half an hour away but has a completely different feel. Panarea is known as an exclusive and incredibly beautiful island which is the smallest of the seven. The island is a hub for celebrities and VIPs who flock to the picturesque beaches and spend evenings in the glamorous bars and fine-dining restaurants.
