Stay by the seashore when you vacation in the charming beachfront Casetta Lumia, near to Menfi, on the west coast of the Italian enchanted island of Sicily. This cosy one storey, detached cottage has three bijou double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to six guests, perfect for a fabulous family holiday, or a group of friends’ sharing. This unique property is set within a fifteen hectare Nature Reserve, populated with local tame wild life, including some very friendly donkeys. Winding paths lead down the sea view eating and seating spots, a private eco-friendly swimming pool, and the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The cottage comes with all the mod cons, including air conditioned bedrooms, Wi-Fi throughout, cable television, and parking for five cars. The interiors are delightful, retaining the original stone floors and the natural wood framed large windows and doors, furnished with original antiques and artefacts and unusual chandeliers, and dressed in crips white country cottage linens.
Walk through the botanical gardens, and enter the cottage to be welcomed by a light, bright and airy open plan living space. The seating area has a comfy white sofa, two matching armchairs, a footstool, and a heavy wooden coffee table, all facing a flat screen satellite television, and an open hearth for a fire on those cooler evenings.
The country style kitchen is fully equipped with all the appliances you will need to cater for your stay, and a table and chairs that’s made for morning coffee. The adjacent dining set to seat six, sits under a handcrafted chandelier, ideal for some splendid indoor entertaining.
There are three well-appointed double bedrooms, all with air conditioning and mosquito nets, and dressed in pretty, white linen. The master bedroom has a double bed and an ensuite shower room with hand basin and loo. The second bedroom has a double bed, and the third a double/twin convertible, and they share a shower room with a hand basin and WC.
Step outside into the gorgeous grounds and gardens, dine alfresco at the pergola covered table, and feast off dishes freshly grilled on the barbeque. Follow the stone path to the bio-design, lake-style swimming pool, bathe on the sea view surrounding sun loungers. Enjoy lunch at the alfresco dining spot, before taking an afternoon nap on one of the double deckchairs.
In the nearby nature reserve you may encounter free-roaming wildlife, non-threatening animals including donkeys and cats. Horses belonging to the owners are securely enclosed at a designated distance, and an aviary is situated at the property's boundary. It is recommended that the various gates surrounding the property remain closed at all times.
Meet at the soft seating spot for sundowners at sunset, and end the evening regaling stories of your most magical holiday around the recycled furniture set. In the morning, take the road less travelled down to the unspoilt beach, say hello to the donkeys, and have a bracing swim before breakfast.

The nearest international airport is in Palermo, a one hundred and twenty kilometre scenic drive through the Sicilian countryside to your holiday home. The beach is literally on your doorstep, and within minutes you can be sunbathing on the unspoilt shores of Le Solette. Lido Fiori and Porto Palo di Menfi, are popular golden sandy beaches with crystal clear walers, and a selection of watersports to keep you entertained.
Hike or bike around the surrounding countryside, and the lush reserve of the Belice River to spot the local flora and fauna. Take a tour of the many vineyards, renowned for producing high quality wines, makes sure you sample and take a bottle or two home with you.
Get your culture fix at Selinunte Archeological Park, one of the largest in Europe and full of Greek ruins. Make sure you go to Agrigento, a unesco World Heritage site, with excellently preserved Greek temples. Visit Mozia Island, an archaeological site with Phoenician ruins near Marsala. In the evening wine and dine in local trattoria by the seashore serving delicious Sicilian dishes.
