About this property

Bask in the fairy-tale elegance of a turreted Italian villa, nestled on the banks of Lake Como. With its manicured gardens and exquisite décor, Villa Del Re is a spacious property with the promise of a relaxing family retreat.

This prestigious property is a fine example of neoclassical Italian architecture. It has six bedrooms – sleeping up to 12 guests – with en suite bathrooms and some with balconies. You will be greeted by a grand entrance hall, off which are living areas, a dining area with stunning views across Lake Como, and space for the whole family to relax and enjoy each other’s company. The full height windows in the sitting room perfectly frame the view of the lake.

These incredible views and the Italian sun will no doubt draw you outside into the vast private park that is part of this grand holiday rental. Within the landscaped grounds, there are well-tended flowerbeds, manicured lawns, pergolas, a panoramic terrace overlooking the lake, seating and dining areas and a swimming pool with loungers. The children will discover a playhouse and a sandpit to play in. And not to forget the boathouse with a dock available for your own use.

The magnificent villa has plenty of added extras to help you enjoy your stay. Since you are in such opulent surroundings, why not take advantage of the services of the chef. A continental breakfast is available each day of your stay, then you can choose between lunch or dinner – you only have to pay for the ingredients and drinks. A daily maid service is also included in this staffed villa.

There is a small local town within walking distance which has an excellent choice of shops, bars and cafés. You can access other lakeside towns, such as Colico, by ferry from nearby dock. Here you will find restaurants and bars, as well as a beautiful abbey on the banks of the lake.

Although you’ll probably find all you need for a fabulous family holiday in and around the villa, if you want to go further afield, Milan is about an hour and 30 minutes’ drive away. Here you will be able to enjoy the sleek Milanese city lifestyle before returning to your lakeside retreat.

This prestigious villa is located right on the banks of Lake Como, in Italy’s Lombardy region, and an hour and a half’s drive from Milan Linate Airport. It’s surrounded by other lakeside retreats, and with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the property boasts some of the most breathtaking views in Italy.

The local town is a short walk from the villa and has plenty of eateries where you can enjoy the lakeside view while relaxing with some classic Italian fare. If you fancy something with a bit more culture and heritage, the village boasts two churches, one more than a thousand years old, plus an old monastery with a fascinating collection of medieval books.

Lake Como has an efficient ferry service for accessing other lakeside towns and villages with ease. With the ferry stop next to the villa’s grounds, it’s easy to jump aboard and explore. In half the time it takes to drive, you could be at the beautiful town of Bellagio, famous for its magnificent villas overlooking the lake. As well as shops and opportunities to sample the local food, there are also gardens to explore and a stony beach to relax on.

The property is at the foot of the Alps, so you can always explore further, maybe even hiking across into nearby Switzerland. If you want an activity a little less wild, then there is a golf course 30 minutes’ drive away, plus tennis courts closer to home.

Milan, the capital of Lombardy – and Italy’s fashion capital – is around 95km away, but well worth a visit. As well as some high-end shopping opportunities and people watching, you could also drop into the Gothic cathedral, Duomo di Milano, and the Pinacoteca di Brera to see art created by some of Italy’s masters.

I cannot recommend this beautiful Lake Como Villa highly enough. The house is truly spectacular with the most incredible views right on the lake. Its the most relaxing place with a beautiful pool, a number of terraces to relax and read on and, child friendly. I had my wedding at this house in June 2019 and I cannot describe how it is the most wonderful venue. The staff were so helpful, kind and truly went out of their way to make the organization of my wedding easier in the lead up (as well as the clear up). Dongo as a town is tranquil with the classic Italian bar, the small restaurants and benches along the water. It is far more local than the more well known towns around Lake Como but as a result, more relaxing and less foot traffic. There are plenty of activities in the surrounding area, such as hikes, kayaking in the lake, there is the opportunity to rent a speedboat in Domaso as well as plenty of other options. The house itself is in impeccable tradition whilst maintaining the traditional Italian elegance.

A number of our family and friends stayed with us at this incredible villa on the shores of Lake Como. Honestly, the photos and description of this property do not do it justice. It is elegant, yet comfortable for families. As it is a bit hot this time of year, this is most likely the coolest location on the lake. Unlike the crowded, warmer areas like Bellagio and the shores by the Villa d'Este and "George Clooney villa"; this incredible location in Dongo was lit-erally a breath of fresh air. The staff are extraordinary - so helpful and nice; we so much ap-preciated everything that they did for our party. The outdoor spaces (large expanses of lawn, pool, terraces, etc.) are so invit-ing that you could just swim and lounge by day and watch the heavenly skies in the evening as you sip drinks on one of the terraces. It is so refreshing to experience classic architecture and furnish-ings, which is one of the main reasons we like Europe. I would highly recommend booking this incredible villa for an unforgettable experience!
