About this property

One of the largest and most striking of all the seafront homes on the Amalfi Coast, the eight-bedroomed Villa Maredentro is a lovingly and immaculately restored nineteenth-century masterpiece. Exquisite design integrate with both the Mediterranean Sea and the spectacular cliff graced by this magnificent five-storey villa, where up to sixteen guests can enjoy a unique experience.

The grand Villa Maredentro is directly accessible from the coastal road, from where you will catch glimpses of the astonishing views that will be yours to enjoy during your stay. On arrival, you will enter through one of two entrance halls to a foyer that leaves you in no doubt about this villa’s immaculate styling. There is no need to worry about carrying luggage to any of your eight beautiful bedrooms, with an elevator serving each of the five floors – your stay here is all about maximising relaxation and enjoying an interior that’s every bit as stunning as its natural surroundings. In fact, the two combine in seamless and quite beautiful ways, both inside and out.

The spacious nature of Villa Maredentro – both inside and out – will comfortably allow the maximum capacity of sixteen guests to each enjoy moments of individual relaxation. And yet, there are many spaces where your entire group will be able to gather, without ever feeling cramped. It is a masterclass in configuration and design, not to mention the facilities throughout offering as many options for relaxation as you would find in most hotels.

Set in the natural rock of the seafront, this villa is essentially three-sided, and both the original architecture and the 2009 renovation have really made the most of this. Inside, exposed rock makes a gorgeous feature in a sequence of arched alcoves as you make your way out to one of six terraces – it is hard to resist reaching out and touching these whenever you pass them! The natural caves of the exterior are put to imaginative use too, with a sauna, children’s play area and a kitchen to be found in these, on different levels.

The comfortably sized, air-conditioned bedrooms all come equipped with orthopaedic Simmons mattresses and pillows, linens and individually styled, ceramic tiled bathrooms – not to mention a fantastic start to the day once you open your curtains. Every single window offers a slightly different view, none of which would look out of place on a canvas, but it is when you step out on to any of Villa Maredentro’s individually designed terraces that you become fully immersed in its phenomenal natural environment.

The rooftop terrace is equipped with a kitchen, breakfast bar and a range of seating and loungers, and if not for so many other enticing spots to enjoy around the villa, it would become impossible to bring yourself away! The intoxicating scent of Bougainvillea fills the air on another terrace, which also features a salubrious lounge, alongside a miniature lemon grove. One of many dining options presents itself here, with even more delightful spots available for sun worshippers. A lawned balcony terrace offers sensational views of the sea, as well as the picturesque cliff-side landscape towards Amalfi. These incredible balconies cascade right down to sea level, where you will discover the finest jewels in Villa Maredentro’s crown.

It is impossible to overstate the feeling of utter bliss that comes from having a corner of this majestic Mediterranean coastline all to yourself. The Jacuzzi’s effervescent water, along with its inspired positioning, gives a sensation of being elevated above the ocean, while all kinds of vessels, from speedboats to super-yachts, pass in the distance. However, your intimate connection with nature reaches a glorious peak once you make your way down to the lowest of the villa’s six terraces.

The Amalfi Coast is just thirty-four miles long, so you will find plenty of delightful towns and villages within easy reach. Even if you prefer not to drive, the towns between Amalfi and Salerno are easy to reach by ferry or bus, with taxis readily available in the main coastal towns. Your nearest town, just five minutes west along the coastal road, is Amalfi itself, a graceful place that you will find a little easier to walk around than some of its steeper neighbours. You will find all the essentials for your stay at Villa Maredentro and much more besides, with a terrific Thursday morning market at the port and a wealth of superb cafés, restaurants and shops.

Amalfi is a charming port town, just few kilometres from Villa Maredentro. If you fancy an easier stroll around, in comparison to some of the more vertiginous towns along the coast, Amalfi is an ideal day out. The promenade is a feast for the eyes, with a bustling harbour full of colourful boats and bright, whitewashed buildings rising gently up the hillside. The eye-catching architecture and beautiful scenery extends well beyond the stunning cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo - as the local saying goes- “For an Amalfitan, the day he goes to heaven is just like any other day”.

A short but scenic fifteen-minute drive will bring you to the gorgeous clifftop town of Ravello, known as the ‘Balcony of the Amalfi Coast’. A long-standing refuge of artists, musicians and authors over the last two centuries, Ravello hosts a range of cultural events throughout the year, including the Ravello Festival. This open-air event takes place at Villa Rufolo throughout July and August, with atmospheric musical performances set against the spectacular backdrop of the Gulf of Salerno.

Michelin-starred restaurants share piazzas with trattorias and pizzerias, offering visitors a wealth of enticing dining options in between taking in the breath-taking architecture and enjoying some of the best shopping along the Amalfi Coast.

Great shopping is one of the hallmarks of the towns and villages along this thirty-four mile stretch of coast. Pastel-coloured buildings adorn the narrow streets, housing beautifully designed stores packed with everything from fine Italian leather bags and stylish clothing, to ceramic art and one of the region’s most famous exports – Limoncello. Made with the freshest Sorrento lemons, this locally produced liqueur is available in its own dedicated stores, in a range of imaginatively designed bottles. Whether you prefer the traditional local recipe, or artisanal varieties infused with peppermint or juniper, this is an unmissable treat to enjoy during your stay on the Amalfi Coast. Taking small bottles of Limoncello home as gifts is de rigueur when you visit here, but beware – the bottles’ corks can be a little unpredictable in your luggage - we recommend grabbing some decent tape to seal the bottles before you pack them!

As you would expect, this part of Italy is rightly proud of both its culinary and winemaking heritage. There is no shortage of options when it comes to terrific local restaurants and trattorias, not to mention cookery classes and tasting tours – getting you right to the heart of this region’s passion for food and wine. There are vibrant weekly markets in the towns close by, with Ravello and Sorrento hosting theirs on a Tuesday. These street markets all have their own picturesque backdrops, with crowds gathering at Amalfi’s port on Thursdays treated to an incredible view from the oceanfront path. Those arriving later in the week can gather fantastic ingredients for weekend dinners at Maiori on Friday, as well as having the chance to wander along the promenade and enjoy this pretty harbour town.

Wherever you stay along this uniquely beautiful, thirty-mile stretch of coast, you will find plenty of tour operators close by, offering a range of unforgettable experiences. Take a boat cruise over to Capri, with its famous blue grottos and crystalline waters, or head an hour by road to the archaeological marvel that is Pompei. As well as guided sightseeing tours, many operators offer deluxe packages that include extras, such as snorkelling, lunch and wine tastings, so be sure to shop around to find one that suits you.
