About this property

What better way is there to discover the charms and culture of Puglia than by staying in a traditional whitewashed Trullo? These limestone buildings with cone-shaped roofs are only found here in Italy’s heel and were historically used by farm workers. Trullo Fenicio is one such home which has been carefully restored and modernised, making it a wonderful place to stay on a getaway with friends or family.

The villa comprises two buildings; firstly, you will find the Trullo, a space which oozes character and is filled with exposed stonework, pretty alcoves and vaulted ceilings. This dwelling boasts a living area, a small kitchen and two bedrooms. With a double bedroom plus a room with two twin beds, this space could be perfect for a family with two children.

Just next door is the Lamia; this is another type of building typically found in Puglia but is a recent addition to the property. The Lamia can accommodate two guests in the double bedroom, and if you need extra space, there is a double sofa bed in the living room. The rooms of the Lamia are bright and airy, with materials and designs reminiscent of the Trullo; both of these homes work beautifully together to create a welcoming and spacious holiday home.

Outdoors, guests can come together on extensive grounds covering 10,000m2. The gardens are filled with cacti, lawns and lavender shrubs, creating an idyllic backdrop for dining al-fresco. You can even cook outdoors in the fantastic summer kitchen, equipped with a wood-burning pizza oven. There are also plenty of seating areas for unwinding with a good book and a private pool with a relaxing whirlpool corner.

Surrounding the home, there are many opportunities to spend time outside in nature, making the most of the warm weather. Close to the home, you can access the Acquedotto Pugliese trail, which is ideal for mountain biking and hiking. There are also lots of spots for leisurely picnics and bird watching nearby. When you want to head to Puglia’s sweeping coastline, you are ideally placed for visiting a range of beaches, including Torre Canne Beach, 25km away and Savelletri’s beaches, 33km away.

The closest town to the villa is also easy to reach and is just 7km away. The town of Martina Franca is a lovely place to spend the day and has all of the shops, cafes and restaurants you could need. Many more towns and cities are just a short drive away, such as the much-loved ‘White City’ of Ostuni, located on a hilltop 18km from the villa. Alternatively, you could visit the UNESCO World Heritage site Alberobello, a town packed with clusters of Trulli and just 21km from the villa. If you want to go on a boat trip along the breathtaking coastline, you can do so in Polignano a Mare. This elegant seaside town also boasts a pretty old town with museums and galleries, plus an array of seafront bars and fine dining restaurants. Polignano a Mare is 45km away and is well worth a trip!

Trullo Fenicio is located amidst verdant farmland, vineyards and olive groves. This idyllic setting is perfect for lazy days exploring the local countryside, while the nearest town, filled with a fantastic range of eateries, is just 7km away for when you wish to dine out.

The closest town to the house is Martina Franca, a stunning town with a rich and exciting history. Once a fully walled defensive settlement, over time, the town became an elegant place, filled with dozens of palaces and luxurious homes after being given tax-free status by the reigning Duke. Today a number of the towers and historic gates remain and connect the rambling, atmospheric old town to the stunning Baroque area. Some centuries-old attractions include the beautiful Basilica di San Martino and a 17th-century Ducal palace. You can reach these on foot while strolling the café-lined streets and the tree-filled park. As it is so close to the villa, you are sure to stop in Martina Franca for a spot of grocery shopping, and you should pick up some capocollo, a locally produced cured ham, a great addition to a lunchtime charcuterie board.

Also really close to the villa is Locorotondo, a 13km drive away and listed as one of Puglia’s nine whitewashed towns. A number of these towns have many typical Trulli buildings, and Locorotondo is one of these and is also home to pointed Cummersa, which are only found here. The town is a thriving labyrinth of alleyways filled with artisan shops, cafés and ancient churches such as the central church, which everything else encircles. Dinner can be enjoyed in town on the hilltop terrace overlooking the valley below. Another Trulli town, Alberobello, is also worth a visit and is 21km away. Alberobello is the more well-known of the two towns, possibly due to its ranking as a unesco World Heritage Site. The town has over 1000 gorgeous Trulli you can wander around as you shop for souvenirs in the little craft shops. There is also a museum where you can learn more about Puglia’s history.

As well as being surrounded by some incredible towns and villages, the villa is only 25km away from some of the area's most beautiful beaches. The nearest sandy beach to the home is called Torre Canne. This is an excellent place for a family day out, as there is plenty of space to sunbathe and build sandcastles. You can choose from many more beaches along the Savelletri coastline, such as Torre Santa Sabina, which is 35km away. If you do not mind driving a little further, you could even visit the famous beaches of Polignano a Mare, which are 45km away. This charming town boasts some luxurious beach clubs where you can sip cocktails looking out over the dazzling sea, while afterwards, you can dine in a bustling piazza in the old town.
