About this property

This is a 1420 castle very close to the capital, Dublin. Guests can have a thoroughly country experience yet be in the city in 40 minutes. It is a family house so guests will enjoy an intimate atmosphere that they can make their own.

There are lots of amenities locally: a really good swimming pool, catch and release fishing, wild fishing, riding school with beginner and advanced, great golf courses, great Irish Music and world class archaeological sites. The famous Abbey Theatre and the Gate are very accessible as well as Fringe Theatre.

The house is 3 1/2 miles from Navan, located in the market town in the Boyne Valley. There is a good fruit/vegetable/knick-knack market there every Friday. There are lots of pubs with Irish music and superb Guinness. The famous Causey Farm is also nearby, where guests can learn to shear a sheep, bake a loaf and dance a jig.

Meath's biggest asset is Tara, New Grange and Lough Crew, boasting structures older than the Pyramids. Westmeath is amazing for walks and hill strolls. Wild and catch & release fishing are all available. Festivals in the summer in Ireland are huge. There are Music, Literary, Poetry and Pop festivals nonstop in the summer.

Dublin is only 45 minutes away.

Lots of hot water is provided by the AGA and an immersion. All bedrooms are carpeted; with wardrobes, lamps, side tables and books provided. Its homely - your home from home!

Downstairs the Drawing room is gorgeous, formal and welcoming without being intimidating. Pre-dinner drinks and afternoon tea seem a natural way of life here. The Dining Room is a change of tempo, moody and dark. The family portraits glow in the candlelight and everyone looks younger!

The kitchens are vaulted and date back to 1420. They are boldly furnished but function in 2012. There is a stylish black Aga and Gas hobs. All water is from the Well. A flagged floor just provides the finishing touch.

The Gardens are typical of the period - flower beds near the house and specimen trees throughout the grounds. A lovely place to have an afternoon walk. The courtyard is to the rear and houses the workshops and stables.

The castle is a family home-we are the opposite of an hotel!
