About this property

The traditional past meets the modern present when you vacation in the exquisitely restored Villa Harmony 1885, nestled overlooking the North coast of the Greek island of Crete, set in the heart of the Aegean Sea. This unique residence was built in 1885 and was originally a merchant’s family summer holiday home, which has recently been lovingly transformed by his descendants, into the most luxurious three individual holiday accommodation spaces. The old stone buildings have retained their character and traditional architecture, which has been cleverly combined with modern technology, state-of-the-art appliances, and the most tasteful interior décor.

Villa Harmony 1885 has three beautifully-appointed bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to five guests, ideal for a small family holiday, or a group of friends’ sharing. The property is surrounded by well-manicured lawns and verdant gardens, populated with ancient olive trees, and blossoming flowers and shrubs in season. The villa comes complete with on-site parking spaces, complimentary air conditioning, and Wi-Fi throughout. The interiors are breathtakingly beautiful, the original stone walls contrast with modern glass staircases, high wood beamed ceilings are paired with parquet flooring, original furniture sits adjacent to hand-crafted contemporary pieces, chandeliers and mirrors reflect the light, antiques and artefacts add old school charm, whilst ancestral photographs adorn the walls. The décor is cool and tranquil, crisp, clean, and whites, with shades of grey predominating, to give the villa a sophisticated and elegant feel.

Villa Harmony 1885 comes with three equally impressive properties, to make the most stunning holiday home. In the courtyard, next to the entrance is an old iconic mulberry tree, which you will pass as you enter the main house. This two hundred-and-thirty-metre home has a spacious central living area, which has direct access to the courtyard, garden, and pool. The sitting room has a wicker and white cushioned sofa set, and antique furniture, there is a large dining area, and the adjacent fully equipped kitchen has all the modern appliances that you will need to cater for your holiday. The spacious villa of 230sqm. is divided into two levels. It consists of a master bedroom with a king size bed, a bedroom with a double bed and a bedroom with a single bed! It has two modern bathrooms on each level. An office area completes the accommodation.

In the courtyard, there is a dedicated children’s play area, with a playpen, kid’s facilities, a slide, and a ping pong table. The grounds and gardens are an absolute delight, impeccably maintained, with mature trees, and lush green lawns. The step-entry swimming pool is surrounded by steamer-style wood sun loungers with white cushions, and thatched umbrellas for shade. Swing seats and deckchairs are ideal for a lazy afternoon catching up with the latest best-seller. A dedicated children’s play area and a ping pong table provide amusement for your young ones. Wood table and chair dining sets are perfect for al fresco dining, with dishes freshly grilled on the barbeque. Meet on one of the terraces as dusk falls, and watch the famous sunsets, as you raise a toast to your Cretan holiday, it’s what memories are made of.

Villa Harmony 1885 is nestled in nature, ninety metres above sea level, surrounded by olive groves, blossoming flowers and plants in season, with a sea and sunset view, on the North coast of the Greek island of Crete, in the Aegean Sea. The villa is thirty-five kilometres from Chania International Airport, a scenic coastal drive to your holiday home. The nearby tourist town of Platanias offers everything you will need for your vacation, including local stores and supermarkets, banks, bars, and restaurants, a beautiful beach, and lively nightlife. Upper Platanias is perched on a hill, with panoramic sea views, and historical sites, from the Minoan period until World War II.

The nearest beach is a short fifteen-minute walk to a sandy shore, and crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea, ideal for swimming, water sports, and paragliding. The North coast is noted for some stunning organised beaches with fabulous facilities, most especially; the white sands of Falasarna, the fun and fashionable Pachia Ammos, the hues of blues Balos, and the pretty pink sands of Elafonisi. If you are feeling sporty, there’s horse riding, tennis, and mini golf nearby, whilst walks in nature can be found around the Botanical Gardens, Lake Agia, water springs, and the backdrop mountain range. The medieval town of Chania is only twenty minute drive from the villa. Stroll down to the old port and harbour, visit the Maritime and Archeological Museums, seek solace in the Greek Orthodox Church of Agios Nikolaos, bargain in the local market, and then dine off freshly caught seafood by the seashore.

For those who love hiking, trek the most famous, and most walked trail in Greece. The fifteen-kilometre Samaria Gorge runs from Omalos to Agia Roumeli, with breathtaking landscapes, rare species of wild goats, rich flora and fauna, and an abandoned village. The ancient town and port of Heraklion is a two-hour drive away, take a tour around the Palace of Knossos, visit the Archaeological Museum, walk the Venetian walls, stroll through the old quarter, and shop for souvenirs. Go further afield to Vai, Crete’s easternmost tip, where you will find lush forests and a unique date palm. Explore Psychro Cave, reputedly the birthplace of Zeus, and rock climb Mount Ida to find the Ideon Cave.

Sitia Geopark is three hundred and fifty square kilometres of the island’s diverse ecosystem, where you can trek through gorges, bathe on beaches, walk the wetlands, and bird watching. Hike the Richtis Gorge, and stroll through streams to reach the twenty-metre waterfall, where you can cool off in the inviting pool. If you prefer sea to land, all aboard a boat trip where you can scuba or snorkel over underwater ruins. Take the ferry to the intriguing island of Spinalonga, once a former leper colony and home to a Venetian fortress, and now an open-air museum. Visit Agios Nikolaos, a harbour town that uniquely houses a lake in its centre, with an Archaeological Museum of Minoan treasures, some seriously good shops, and local bars and restaurants, in which to sit and watch the local life go by. Enjoy some wind-down time with a wine-tasting tour, and don’t forget to take a bottle or two home with you.
