Les Marquises is a beautifully restored farmhouse that captures the rhythm of Provençal life. Parts of the home date back centuries, yet inside, the interiors speak of easy, contemporary comfort. Outside, a private pool and lawned gardens invite slow afternoons under the southern French sky with incredible views as far as Mont Ventoux – you can also just about catch a glimpse of the church tower in Nyons in the distance.
The house unfolds across three floors, blending rustic stone and exposed beams with stylish updates. A sleek, fully equipped kitchen flows onto a shaded dining terrace on the lower level, perfect for al-fresco meals that linger into the golden evening. Just along the hall, a dedicated games room with a pool table sets the scene for friendly competition. On the two upper levels, you will find four bedrooms and three bath/shower rooms. We especially love the vineyard views from the top-floor freestanding bath tub!
Outside, a converted barn houses table tennis, while the swimming pool area, complete with loungers and vineyard views, promises total relaxation. Whether you're enjoying breakfast on the terrace or sipping wine as the light fades over the vines, Les Marquises creates a sense of timeless escape.
Just 5km away lies the historic heart of Nyons, a Provençal gem known for its olive oil, lavender and bustling weekly markets. Wander cobbled streets lined with cafés and shops, or explore nearby Vaison-la-Romaine with its Roman ruins and colourful facades. For day trips, the cultural landmarks of Orange and Avignon are within easy reach, offering a deeper taste of the region’s storied past.
Les Marquises is a place to unwind, reconnect and experience the best of southern France.
In the Drôme Provençale, not far from the Vaucluse border, Les Marquises enjoys a superb location just outside the charming town of Nyons. Set on the road connecting Orange and Nyons, with glorious vineyard views from the garden and upper floor, the house offers guests easy access to many of the region’s cultural and natural delights.
Nearby Nyons is one of the gems of the region – it’s historic centre is around 5km by car (with useful amenities such as supermarkets even closer). Nyons is a picturesque town famed for its olive oil, colourful markets and pretty squares lined with cafés. Wander its cobbled lanes, browse local produce including lavender honey and black truffles, and enjoy a leisurely lunch in one of its many restaurants. From June to August, the town comes alive with festivals and open-air concerts, offering a delightful slice of Provençal life.
A short distance in the other direction lies Vinsobres (4km), a small but renowned wine village producing exceptional Côtes du Rhône wines. Further afield, the historic town of Vaison-la-Romaine (13.5km) enchants with its incredible Roman ruins, medieval old town and lively Tuesday market, all set against a backdrop of hills and vineyards. Its scenic beauty and relaxed pace make it a must-visit for culture and architecture lovers alike.
Nature lovers and cyclists will be drawn to the majestic Mont Ventoux, rising dramatically on the horizon and offering panoramic views and thrilling climbs. Also across the wider region, the iconic lavender fields of the Drôme Provençale reach full bloom in summer, painting the landscape in shades of purple and filling the air with heady fragrance.
For an enriching day out, head south to explore the unesco-listed Roman amphitheatre in Orange (36km) or venture to the walled city of Avignon (63km), home to the stunning Palais des Papes. Both are under an hour’s drive and offer a rich tapestry of history, art and Provençal culture.
