About this property

With incredible views of the Lot valley, Château Camelot will captivate its guests with its fantastic features and beautiful setting. An absolute dream for all ages, enjoy the tranquillity of the 50-acre private grounds with its wild flowers and woodland or play to your hearts content with the many games and activities offered here.

There’s a charming ambience in this welcoming home from its drawing room with chesterfield sofas surrounding the log-burning fire to its ten bedrooms, some featuring carved French beds and many with glorious views of the surrounding countryside. Feel the magic of the top-floor tower bedroom with its canopied circular bed and little windows looking out to the valleys beyond.

A wine-cellar with its own honesty bar and table allows you to enjoy some of the fine wines of this region or take a bottle up to sit with family and friends on the pretty terrace. The outdoor dining area is also a perfect spot for al-fresco meals in the summer sun or warm balmy evenings with the pool lit in the background.

As well as the swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi, adults and children alike will appreciate the countless facilities from target golf and a five-a-side football pitch outside to the indoors sports hall with table-football, darts, ping-pong and a gym. There are bikes for guests to use as well as a children’s play area outside; whether you are seeking peaceful relaxation or endless family amusement, it’ll be hard to leave this appealing abode.

Yet the glorious Lot region is waiting to be explored with its world-famous vineyards, historic châteaux and delightful villages and towns. Visit local farmer’s markets selling wonderful seasonal produce, drive to perched villages in idyllic settings or take boat trips along the Lot River. Puy-l'Évêque, Cahors and Saint-Cirq-Lapopie are just some of the beautiful places to visit or simply spend your summer days river swimming or canoeing nearby.

If you’re wishing to head further afield, head to Rocamadour, Gourdon and some of Dordogne’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ for yet more breathtaking beauty.

South of the Lot River, just half an hour from the historic town of Cahors, this château is in a stunning setting surrounded by fifty acres of private grounds with wonderful views of the Lot valley.

There’s a pretty village within a 4km drive with a boulangerie, small shop and post office whilst the riverside village of Luzech (7km) offers further shops and amenities as well as a couple of restaurants and a Wednesday morning market. Luzech’s setting on the banks of two parts of the river is especially picturesque. A little further east, head to a brilliant Base de Loisirs on the Lot with supervised swimming in July and August as well as a river beach, canoe hire, paddle-boarding, pedalos and a play area.

The nearest town is beautiful Cahors (23km), well-known for its historic sights including Le Pont Valentré, now a unesco World Heritage site. Explore the medieval historic centre, discover picturesque squares, narrow lanes and some excellent restaurants. The Wednesday and Saturday morning markets are a particular delight selling all sorts of seasonal local produce such as truffles, foie gras and Quercy melons.

Across this region you will be able to visit many vineyards and wineries around Cahors, some of them famous for producing some of the finest Malbec grapes in the world. Private tours and tastings can be arranged.

From May to September take a river cruise along the Lot in Cahors or in July and August you can take a day boat trip as far as the incredibly beautiful village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (50km). This village is known to be one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and can also be reached in around an hour by car. It’s an enchanting place with flower-filled lanes, little art galleries and delightful shops selling all sorts of artisan products – it’s an area that has inspired artists for many years.

A little closer to home, Puy-l'Évêque (20km) is another charming village, perched above the Lot with its beautiful stone houses and maze of narrow lanes and steps. Take a boat trip along the river from here and hire canoes or pedaloes. Market-lovers should visit on a Tuesday morning; other wonderful markets in the area include Montcuq (17km) on a Sunday morning and Prayssac (15km) on a Friday.

There are many historic châteaux to visit in the Lot-et-Garonne from the incredible ruins of Château de Bonaguil (38km), the pretty gardens and surroundings of Château de Fumel (40km) and the especially beautiful Chateau de Gavaudun (50km).

Other classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ that can be reached in under an hour include Monpazier (54km) and Monflanquin (55km) or head further north to the Dordogne river with Domme (55km), La Roque-Gageac (56km) and Beynac-et-Cazenac (63km). Take a boat trip along the river, hire canoes, explore Farmer’s markets and discover the glorious landscapes of the Dordogne.

Rocamadour (70km) is another outstanding place of natural beauty with its perfectly preserved town built on the edge of a cliff, perhaps combined with a trip to charming Gourdon (49km), one of many gorgeous towns of the Lot region.

I'm going to preface this review by saying our extended family have hired a number of chateaus over the years, so we have something to make comparisons with! Without doubt this chateau offered the best value for money we have ever enjoyed. Our party of 18 used all the 10 bedrooms on offer, without anyone having to compromise on bedroom space. The kitchen was large enough to cater for the entire party with plenty of worktop space and a large island unit. Refreshingly there are plenty of cooking utensils and professional sized pans etc. There are three fridges, we used the large stand alone fridge for food, and the two under counter fridges for 'adults' and kids drinks. The lounge diner is huge and comfortable, with good quality games available, including chess & backgammon. The pool is among the largest we've ever enjoyed with a deep end you can actually dive into. At points we had a dozen people in the pool and still had room to swim around. There are two main terraces, both easily able to accommodate at least 20 people. Smaller seating areas are dotted around the grounds so if inclined you can take yourself off for a bit of peace and quiet. There is a new and very good quality BBQ on the rear terrace with a moving charcoal tray which means you can raise the heat source as charcoal burns away. We were able to BBQ for 18 on half a bag of lump wood. Our party had 5 cars, the driveway was large enough for them to be parked so that everyone could drive out of the chateau without the need to move another vehicle. Saving the best to last, the sports hall/games room is magnificent. With a full sized badminton court, a basket ball hoop, 2 table tennis tables, table football, a darts board, and a full sized pool table our whole party had plenty of activities to choose from. This facility was constantly used for weeklong knockout completions including our own decathlon type event. Modesty prevents me revealing who the best pool player was. From our perspective, this vast array of facilities and activities provided the perfect ingredients for our first ever holiday where children needed no entertaining at all. Finally a place they can truly entertain themselves. Finally, the hosts were perfect, we couldn't have been looked after any better.

Fantastic stay at Chateau Camelot - group of 10 adults and 10 children. Great set up to keep both groups well entertained and some additional surprises like a play area next to one of the outside eating areas. Sports hall and pool both huge, the latter keeping us cool in the hot afternoons. The owners also helped us arrange a local cook to cater on some evenings and also a local wine producer to do a wine tasting.

We have just returned home from a magical week at the Chateau Camelot in the area of Cahors in the Lot Valley, South West of France – 16 family members of 4 generations came together to celebrate the Diamond Wedding anniversary of our wonderful parents, and what could be more fitting than a beautiful Chateau set in stunning surroundings. This was our second visit to the Chateau, our first being to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary a decade ago! The new owners were delightful and catered to pretty much our every whim! The chateau has so much to do, from lazy days around the beautiful pool, a well equipped gym/games room with excellent gym equipment, darts, bikes, pool, badminton, tennis, table tennis, table football, and even an outdoor golf game there is no time to get bored!! There is plenty to do in the local area too such as canoeing, boat trips, historical towns, markets and Chateaus plus plenty of supermarkets close by for provisions. There were no shortage of wonderful settings to enjoy our family mealtimes together, and we opted for catered meals by the wonderful catering team, @Le Quercy Kitchen, run by lovely Jill and her daughter Georgina – we could not fault a single morsel of the delicious food that they prepared for us each evening and they looked after us superbly! Overall an excellent week, would highly recommend!
