About this property

This Languedoc villa with private swimming pool is a charming getaway for a couple, friends or small family within walking distance to a characterful village and restaurant, only 11km from the historic market town of Pézenas.

Simple in style yet welcoming and homely, climb the pretty steps to Villa Javert’s upper floor and stroll through to its light-filled lounge and dining room with doors leading out to the upper terrace/balcony. The modern kitchen is well-equipped with a breakfast table for your morning coffee and pastries whilst this floor also features a queen-size double air-conditioned bedroom and separate shower room. Outside of peak season, a special 2-person rate allows a couple to stay just on this level with an outside spiral staircase taking you down to the swimming pool and garden.

On the lower floor (included in the standard 6-person rate) there is a family lounge alongside two further doubles with queen-size beds and a little kitchen ideal for preparing snacks to enjoy on the shaded terrace. Outside, head through a little gate to the glorious swimming pool, seek shade beneath the trees by the al-fresco lounge and wander through the garden with its delightful fruit trees.

Set on the village road, you can amble to the heart of the village in just a couple of minutes where you can soak up traditional Languedoc life, admire the impressive chateau and dine out in the village restaurant. A supermarket plus further restaurants and amenities can be found in the small town of Roujan, just five minutes away passing vineyards and rural countryside as you drive.

Spend time in exquisite Pézenas with its rich heritage, beautiful old houses, antique shops and restaurants, then follow the footsteps of Molière at the Théâtre de Pézenas. The town’s historic Saturday morning market is a must, one of the best in southern France showcasing a wealth of Languedoc delicacies from across the region.

Sample wines from Languedoc vineyards, try oysters by the Étang du Thau in Mèze and enjoy family time by the beach in Marseillan Plage or Cap d’Agde. Spend the day in vibrant Béziers, sail or cycle along the Canal du Midi or even venture to the grand city of Montpellier, just over an hour away and yet another gem of this captivating corner of southern France.

Villa Javert is located in a traditional village in the Hérault department of France, 11km from the historic town of Pézenas with its famous Saturday morning market.

Set on the road leading to the village, you can stroll out of your house and along the pavement until you reach the heart of the village within a couple of minutes. The characterful village is home to a privately owned château dating back to the 15th century as well as a traditional French restaurant usually open five days a week for lunch and evening meals. Find further amenities including restaurants and a supermarket in the small town of Roujan (2.5km) passing rural landscapes and vineyards as you drive.

Pézenas (11km) is exquisite with its old buildings and beautiful lanes – the town is protected as a French historic monument. Many of the houses date back to the 16th to 18th century,  there is a medieval Jewish ghetto and the impressive Collégiale Saint-Jean. Explore the old quarter with its little antique shops, lovely restaurants and delightful shops as you follow the footsteps of the French playwright Molière, ending at the Théâtre de Pézenas. The Saturday morning market is the region’s largest and most historic, a fantastic place to pick up a wealth of Languedoc delicacies.

Of course, this region is also known for its charming little villages, wineries and endless vineyards whilst all sorts of regional specialities can be found such as goats cheese, sweet onions, figs, wild herbs and of course oysters from the Étang du Thau, best accompanied by a chilled glass of local white wine. Find many restaurants serving oysters in the historic town of Mèze (30km) and take boat trips out to the oyster beds.

The Languedoc coastline also awaits whether you experience the hustle and bustle of Cap d’Agde and Marseillan Plage or the wilder shores beyond Vias Plage. From summer watersports, fairgrounds and theme parks to stunning coastal walks, there is plenty to keep every age entertained along this part of the Mediterranean.

Venturing further north, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert (52km) can be reached in under an hour, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and a unesco World Heritage site, or continue onwards to discover the fascinating caves at Grotte des Demoiselles. Lac du Salagou (30km) is a picturesque spot for nature walks, picnics and summer watersports on the lake in beautiful surroundings.
