About this property

Stay in an immaculately restored 17th-century home surrounded by glorious landscapes close to French villages, atmospheric markets and idyllic rivers, perfect for exploring the regions of Lot-et-Garonne, Dordogne and beyond.

Centred around a charming courtyard with its private swimming pool, this estate is beautifully positioned amongst fields and nature. The decked terrace is a stunning spot for soaking up the sun whilst the covered dining area is ideal for atmospheric al-fresco feasts with family or friends. Pretty touches include raised flower beds and a tranquil fishpond, guests will also appreciate the jacuzzi and table tennis. The heated swimming pool is wonderful with two waterfall features from the wall behind.

So much work has gone into the renovation of the château in recent years and the main house is now ready to welcome six guests. Inside, admire the home’s characterful yet chic interiors across the living and dining space which opens out to the covered terrace. The blend of traditional and modern furnishings is impressive whilst the stylish kitchen has been imported from Spain.

Upstairs, enjoy the views from the three double bedrooms, all of which are gracefully styled and each feature their own en suite bathroom. The master double even has two bathrooms, one with a bath, another with a shower in the tower, as well as a walk-in dressing room.

A boulangerie awaits in the local village, only 3km by car, whilst market towns are easily reached to pick up a wealth of locally produced delights – look out for delicious tomatoes in Marmande and Tonnein’s famous ham. There are kayaking opportunities along the Lot and Garonne rivers as well as riverside beaches, perfect picnic spots, lovely walks and endless vineyards producing some excellent wine.

Visit picture-perfect villages and towns such as Clairac, Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Pujols, sample the wines of Duras, drive to the Gers to enjoy yet more gastronomic gems and experience the fantastic Sunday morning market in Dordogne’s Issigeac. You can also catch the train from Tonnein to Agen or Bordeaux for yet more wine, cuisine, culture and history in this alluring part of south-western France.

In the Lot-et-Garonne department of south-western France, around an hour south of Bergerac, Château De La Cour enjoys a beautiful and private rural setting surrounded by fields and nature. The nearest village is 3km by car and is home to a boulangerie, pharmacy and butchers whilst restaurants can be found dotted across other local villages and towns around a 10 to 15-minute drive away.

Nearby Tonneins (11km) is an attractive town on the banks of the Garonne with useful amenities including supermarkets alongside historic buildings, picturesque views by the riverside and kayaking opportunities. Visit the bustling market on a Saturday or Wednesday morning and be sure to sample some of the town’s famous ham. Trains depart the railway station towards Bordeaux (one hour) and Agens (25 minutes).

Marmande (16km) is another pretty town and loved for its wonderful market – it’s a great fruit and vegetable producing region, especially tomatoes. Parc De La Filhole sits near the banks of the Garonne, perfect for woodland walks, riverside picnics as well as playgrounds, mini-golf and other sporting activities (the park also hosts a large rock festival in late June/early July).

Heading east towards the River Lot, discover gorgeous villages such as Castelmoron-sur-Lot (22km) and Villeneuve-sur-Lot (37km), look out for further canoeing and kayaking opportunities, cycling trails and some stunning hikes – the hilly walk between Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Pujols, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, is incredible.

As well as atmospheric Farmer’s markets across nearby villages and towns selling a wealth of seasonal produce and local specialities, check for night markets in the height of the summer where locals and tourists join to feast on good food and wine often accompanied by live music. The wine of this region is excellent too from the vineyards producing Côtes du Marmandais to the wineries around Bordeaux further north. Not forgetting Duras (33km) and the villages, markets and vineyards of the Dordogne - Issigeac (42km) hosts a fantastic Sunday morning market and the wineries near Bergerac (54km) are easily reached.

The small city of Agen (52km) is a lovely day out with plenty for all ages from boat trips along the Canal de Garonne and some fantastic parks to historic sights, restaurants and shops selling Agen’s famous prunes steeped in Armagnac. Idyllic Nérac (47km) is also under an hour away, a medieval village full of charm on the Baïse river, whilst the exquisite triangle of Gers villages (Fourcès, Larressingle and Montréal) are just over an hour by car.

We spent a week in July 2023 with family and loved the beauty of this area. The infinity pool, the jacuzzi and the ping-pong table delighted the children. The wooded park offers a beautiful space for relaxation and walking. Thank you again for the welcome and services!
