About this property

The owners of Maison Boisette had a clear and simple plan: to create beautiful holiday homes in the heart of the Périgord Noir where castles, caves, market towns, vineyards and restaurants offer endless delights for the young and old.

The result is three elegant stone villas, full of traditional and authentic features as well as modern touches and comforts. Each villa has been cleverly designed to have its own space and beautiful views of the countryside, and benefits from its own private, heated swimming pool.

Maison Boisette is a charming blend of old stone and exposed wood which give the house a warm and authentic ambience. Indoors there are three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a homely and inviting open-plan kitchen/dining/lounge area with fireplace. A stunning wooden feature staircase links the floors. Outdoors, it benefits from a lovely terrace for relaxing and eating alfresco both during the day and evening and the private swimming pool sits alongside the original village stone walls.

As far as settings go it would be difficult to find a more enchanting location. This is one of France’s Les Plus Beaux Villages, surrounded by countryside and woods and between beautiful Sarlat and Lascaux. A traditional Dordogne village of typical Périgordian houses, slate tiled roofs and golden stone walls, with at its centre, its majestic church, alongside the ruins of the original abbey. Amongst its places to visit are also the village’s original communal lavoir and bread oven and the restored tobacco barn. In the summer a charming tea shop sells fresh bread and croissants whilst there is usually a delightful evening market taking place on Tuesdays in the height of the summer. Coly and Montignac for local and gastronomic restaurants are just 5 – 10 minutes away by car.

Guests are spoiled for choice as far as attractions go within a mere 15 to 30-minute drive away; Sarlat is 25 minutes by car, the caves at Lascaux are just a 15-minute drive away, troglodyte villages just 30 minutes and Terrasson and many famous châteaux just 15 minutes away. Many of the Dordogne’s beautiful villages are within easy reach.

Relaxing and memorable holidays with family and friends are guaranteed at Maison Boisette, where a clever and sympathetic restoration has resulted in a beautiful home-away-from-home, guests come back to year after year.

In the Dordogne department, only half an hour north of Sarlat-la-Canéda, Maison Boisette can be found in one of France’s ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages’, surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland.

As you wander around the ancient village, admire its majestic church, the ruins of the original abbey as well as the village’s former lavoir and bread oven. There is a charming little tea shop open in the summer months where you can buy fresh bread and pastries alongside an atmospheric night market on Tuesday evenings from late June to early September.

The nearby town of Montignac (10km), located on the banks of the Vézère, is a joy to explore with its beautiful houses overlooking the river as well as the famous Lascaux-International Centre for Cave Art just on the edge of the town. Other activities in this part of the Dordogne include many glorious hiking paths (there are some wonderful walks straight from the village) as well as canoeing along the Vézère, a great way to appreciate the natural beauty of this region.

The Vézère meets the Dordogne in the delightful village of Limeuil (45km) where you can either enjoy the views from Parc Limeuil or head down to the banks of the river for paddling on its beach. Closer to home, Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (19km) is another one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and Château Losse (15km) is worthy of a visit with its magnificent gardens.

Sarlat-la-Canéda (23km) is one of the area’s most remarkable towns with a warren of medieval lanes to explore, enchanting squares and an impressive cathedral. Dine out in one of the town’s fantastic restaurants and there are ample opportunities to sample some of the fine Périgord truffles and foie gras that the town is so famous for. Head there early to avoid the summer crowds and perhaps combine with a visit to Domme (35km), Château de Beynac (32km) or Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (38km), all near the banks of the Dordogne.

Heading west, the grand city of Périgueux (63km) is another fine day out with its stunning historic architecture and bustling Dordogne markets, or head into the Vézère valley for horse-riding, long walks, fascinating caves and yet more incredible pre-historic sites.

A beautifully appointed house and pool with everything we needed to make our stay perfect, and more besides! Highlights included: the generous welcome hamper full of local specialities including wine, caramelised walnuts, rilles of goose and pate, the big comfortable beds, the air conditioning, the stylish interiors, the heated swimming pool, huge sliding doors onto the terrace with a Webber grill for outdoor cooking and dining, and the glorious view of oak forests. At night we were serenaded by owls calling to each other. All of this set on the edge of a perfectly intact 14th century village with a stunning 12th century abbey. We were shown around the property by Gwen who was lovely and popped back on the last day to check all was well. We got our security deposit refund within three days.
