About this property

Located in the Auvergne-Limousin region, Chateau de Mouney is the family residence of an international artist, dating back to the C17/18th, that sits on the edge of the Foret de Drouille.

Isolated and calm, the chateau offers 50km of uninterrupted views to the volcanic range of the Puy de Dome, surrounded by lakes, forests and country lanes.

The chateau has large rooms, high ceilings and fireplaces. Oak flooring and original cornicing can be seen throughout. The interior is designed to an exceptional standard with designer furniture throughout. The highlight is the spacious and well appointed kitchen, ideal to prepare delicious meals using fresh local ingredients,

Outside there are landscaped, orchard, herb, vegetable and rose gardens. There is also an outdoor dining area under the pergola with a marble table and stone barbecue. The heated swimming pool comes with pool house and is fenced with an electric safety cover.

This is the perfect place for those who seek total peace and quietness, spending long-hours out hiking, biking or fishing, away from the crowds and tourist attractions.

The closest village is a 5 -minute drive away, a truly authentic french little gem! There are restaurants within a driving distance too, where you can taste a very simple but delicious local cuisine.

If you are into wine and historical castles, keep in mind that the Loire Valley is a few hours drive away!

Situated on the border of the Puy de Dome and Limousin regions, the chateau is 5 minutes to nearest village with bakery, small supermarket, bar, post office and pharmacy. 15 minutes takes you to the town where horse riding and tennis are available as well as all the necessary shops.

There are very good local markets and the chateau is surrounded by fishing lakes. Golf des Volcans is 40 minutes away. Lac des Fiades is great for kayaking, jet ski, sailing and swimming. Hot Air ballooning is possible over the volcanoes.

Other activities include Accrobranche (treetop adventure), Rock climbing, Skiing at Mont Dore (50 mins), the Spa town of Evaux les Bains & Vulcania.

Chateau de Mouney is a really beautiful house, tastefully but also very comfortably furnished and equipped with everything you could possibly need and the owners are incredibly charming and helpful. It's an old house so not without quirks, but all the more interesting for them. The kitchen is stunning, the outside eating area charming with a great barbecue. The gardens are quite wild but with badminton, boule, swings and a large trampoline to keep you occupied. The pool area is lovely with comfy chairs and daybeds with plenty of cushions and pool towels. The area is quite remote so be prepared to travel if you want to visit anything noteworthy, but the countryside is lovely, it's very peaceful and basic amenities (bread, supermarket) aren't too far. The art all around the house and garden make the property truly unique. Thoroughly recommended.
