About this property

Rising from the storied remnants of a medieval stronghold, Château Touraine commands the Indre Valley with quiet grace and dignified charm. This is a fine setting for exploring the Loire Valley with Tours, Amboise and Loches all within half an hour by car.

The château’s slate rooftops and stately façade echo the refined lines of Renaissance and Classicist architecture, a 19th-century tribute to centuries past. Set near the edge of a traditional Indre-et-Loire village, the château is an elegant sanctuary steeped in history.

Step inside to discover a home that feels both timeless and welcoming. Original materials such as herringbone parquet, ornate ceilings, and centuries-old stone have been lovingly preserved, while a meticulous restoration brings historic touches to every corner. From the magnificent entrance hall to the grand salon with its Bechstein piano and carved fireplace, every room is designed to enchant. Gather around the long table beneath a French-style ceiling in the formal dining room, or share stories over coffee in the warm kitchen where a Lacanche cooker takes centre stage.

Five spacious bedrooms with private bathrooms span across two upper floors, some with private terraces, others with parkland and countryside views. Four feature king-size beds, the fifth has a queen-size double, and there are single beds dotted across some of the bedrooms allowing Château Touraine to comfortably sleep up to 15 guests.

Outside, two terraces look out onto the gently undulating landscape, where deer and foxes are often seen at dawn. Here guests can enjoy the pleasures of château life with ease: unwind with a massage, dine in with a private chef, or explore the surrounding area by bike. The estate invites slow living - tennis matches under the sun, games of ping-pong and walks through the rustic estate with its meadow, woodland and pond.

Just a short drive from the heart of the Loire Valley, Château Touraine enjoys a privileged position. A small village is a short drive or cycle ride away, while the vibrant city of Tours by the banks of the Loire River offers culture, markets and museums. Iconic châteaux such as Chenonceau, Amboise, and Villandry are all within easy reach, ideal for days of discovery and delight.

At the end of a day out exploring, return to Château Touraine to experience the elegance, warmth and the gentle beauty of the Touraine countryside.

In the heart of the Loire Valley, Château Touraine enjoys a picturesque setting on the edge of a small village in the Indre-et-Loire department. Near the Indre River, the traditional village is home to a couple of restaurants and a train station with departures to Loches and Tours.

By the banks of the Loire, the vibrant city of Tours (18km) is rich in medieval architecture, bustling markets and a dynamic food scene – perfect for a day trip spent wandering cobbled streets and riverside promenades, soaking up the local culture.

Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy along the Loire River. A unesco World Heritage Site, the river is ideal for canoeing and kayaking, offering scenic routes past historic towns and rolling vineyards. Cyclists are equally well catered for, with well-marked routes forming part of the renowned Loire à Vélo trail.

This is also an ideal base from which to discover the Loire Valley’s most iconic grand châteaux. Within easy reach are the elegant gardens and water features of Château de Villandry (35km), the fairy-tale beauty of Château de Chenonceau (27km) arching over the River Cher, and the royal residence of Château d’Amboise (28km), steeped in Renaissance history. Each castle offers a unique window into France’s regal past, from grand halls to manicured grounds.

Further south lies the enchanting town of Loches (25km), a medieval gem with a beautifully preserved old quarter, royal château and a lively weekly market. Its quiet streets and historic ambience make it a rewarding detour and a testament to the region’s rich heritage.

For oenophiles, the Loire Valley is a dream. The region’s vineyards produce some of France’s finest wines, from the Chenin Blanc grapes of Vouvray and Cabernet Franc of Chinon to the sparkling white wine of Saumur. Wine-tasting tours are widely available, offering the chance to sample local varietals and meet the passionate winemakers behind the labels. Whether in a centuries-old cellar or a modern boutique estate, each glass tells a story of terroir and tradition.
