About this property

This charming palais in Burgundy offers authenticity, warmth and style in the most beautiful natural surroundings, perfectly positioned close to Beaune and many wine villages of the famous Route des Grands Crus.

The estate has a fascinating history – from the 12th century until the French Revolution it belonged to an important Cistercian abbey, small in terms of numbers of monks but vast with its surrounding forests, pastures, waterways and vineyards. Its current owners fell in love with the estate and challenged themselves to revive its spiritual and natural history.

After ten years of dedication, Palais De Réon is one of the buildings that they have brought back to life. Previously the home of the abbot, the palais has been wonderfully renovated to greatly respect its heritage whilst creating an enchanting place to stay. As you wander around its living and dining spaces, admire ornate detailing, elegant furnishings and an authentic sense of grandeur alongside 21st century comforts from the home cinema system in the downstairs lounge to the classic kitchen with its Lacanche ovens and appliances.

Downstairs is a beautiful suite with two bedrooms and a bathroom, ideal for guests with restricted mobility whilst upstairs you will find four suites with bathrooms, one of which has two bedrooms. Further luxuries include a heated swimming pool outside (open approximately April to October, pool towels are provided), a pool room with a jacuzzi and two saunas as well as a private tennis court.

Guests also benefit from three hectares of private grounds – listen to the birds sing amongst the century-old trees, relax by the tranquil pond or enjoy fine wines of the Côte-d'Or on your private terrace. Nearby, follow cycling trails, explore the landscapes or take long walks through the woodland and countryside, appreciating the heritage of this special place.

Close to a village and a short drive from restaurants, you are also only 12km from Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. Soak up the ambience of its twice-weekly market or just stroll around its cobbled lanes, stopping off in wine bars, admiring delightful shops and visiting one of France’s most important historical buildings, Hospices de Beaune.

Cycle, walk or drive along the famous Route des Grands Crus coming across idyllic vineyards, picture-perfect wine villages and Michelin starred restaurants – places such as Puligny Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard are all within 15km.

Then there’s the Sunday morning market in Chagny, also home to the 100-year old restaurant with three Michelin stars, Maison Lameloise, and yet more cycle rides along the tow paths of Canal du Centre. A little further afield sample the mustards of Dijon, experience the market in Autun, visit the abbey in Cluny or, for those guests seeking even more outdoor adventures, escape to the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan, yet another natural highlight of this magnificent region.

In the very heart of Burgundy, close to the border of Saône-et-Loire and Côte-d'Or, Palais De Réon is part of a beautiful estate (also featuring neighbouring Château De Réon and its private grounds), a short drive south of Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy.

As well as being able to make the most out of the incredible nature nearby, this is also a fantastic location for exploring the famous wine-villages along the Route des Grands Crus. Hire bikes and head to the much-loved véloroute (also wonderful for walking), passing through idyllic Burgundy vineyards and picture-perfect villages such as Puligny Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard, all within 15km. Book a table at a Michelin starred restaurant for lunch, enjoy a vineyard picnic or simply sample Côte de Beaune wines at one of the many Burgundy wineries.

Beaune, known as the wine capital of Burgundy, is only 12km by car, a delightful town with its many wine bars, excellent restaurants and twice-weekly market. Spend time exploring its cobbled lanes, walk along the old ramparts and visit the impressive Hospices de Beaune, dating back to the 15th century and one of France’s most admired historic buildings.

The town of Chagny (13km) is home to a bustling Sunday morning market and the three Michelin starred Maison Lameloise whilst further afield is the Roman town of Autun (54km) as well as charming Dijon (58km). Cluny, around an hour by car, is known for its famous abbey, one of the largest in the western world and one of France’s official National Monuments.

Nature lovers should also get out to the stunning Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan with its old villages, rolling landscapes of hills and woodland, waterfalls, streams and rivers – ideal for watersports, hiking, cycling and horse-riding.
