Guests say

Bousdale Cottage receives high praise for its peaceful rural setting, excellent access to woodland walks, and warm, welcoming hosts. Guests consistently highlight the cottage’s cleanliness, comfort, and suitability for dog owners, with many returning for repeat stays. The property is well-equipped and offers a tranquil escape, yet remains close to local amenities and attractions. While a few minor issues were noted, such as occasional maintenance concerns and limited storage, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, making it an ideal choice for those seeking relaxation and outdoor activities.

The majority of guests describe the cottage as spotless, clean, and well-maintained. Only a couple of isolated comments mention minor cleaning oversights, such as rubbish under the bed or a full bathroom bin, but these are rare exceptions.

The location is frequently described as peaceful, secluded, and perfect for walking, with easy access to both the moors and the coast. Guests appreciate the proximity to Guisborough and local attractions, as well as the abundance of scenic walks from the doorstep.

Guests regularly mention the cottage’s cosy and comfortable atmosphere, with special praise for the beds and quiet surroundings. A few reviews note limited storage in the double bedroom and one mentions a lumpy bed, but most feedback is highly positive.

The cottage is described as well-equipped, with secure gardens for dogs, good kitchen amenities, and thoughtful touches like enclosed yards. Some minor issues are mentioned, such as the absence of a washing machine, no blind in the bathroom, and occasional maintenance needs, but these do not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Many guests comment on the owners’ friendliness, helpfulness, and welcoming attitude. Occasional gifts such as welcome packs or homemade shortbread are mentioned, but these are not guaranteed for all guests. The hosts are praised for their responsiveness and willingness to assist with any needs.

It was warm and cosy even when temperatures were around freezing at night, clean, and well equipped. There is dog walking on the doorstep but probably not for anyone with a very reactive dog as the first part of the path is very well used. Once in the forest, there are many way to go so things quieten significantly. Ours loved it! We used the twin bedroom as it is a bit more spacious and any issues with bed comfort flagged in a previous review have been very fully addressed - we were both incredibly comfortable. There is a lot to do round about so if castles, abbeys and stately homes are your thing, you'll not be disappointed. The cottage is in a quiet location and I was expecting the final part of the drive to be a little more challenging - it is perfectly fine for almost any car. The cottage is close to Guisborough and so convenient for shops and we found that takeaways were happy to delivery to us. In all, a comfortable place in a quiet yet well served location with friendly owners and lots to do.

We loved this secluded cottag. Ruth, the owner was very accommodating and very friendly. The cottage was very well equipt and very comfortable. The garden is a haven for birdlife. I saw my first Tree Creeper. We saw a greater spotted woodpecker drilling way. We counted 26 species of Eurasian birds. Guisborough town centre is worth visiting as is nearby Saltburn by the Sea and Redcar beach. Even our aging pooch had a spring in her step all week. We had a well deserved break. Thanks Ruth and of course thanks to Sykes Cottages for yet another super find. X

The only issue we had was that there was no blind up at the bathroom window which is at ground level looking directly out into the court yard. We had to put towels up to the window to get some privacy whilst in the shower.
