Head into the charming market town of Ambleside (1.5 miles) for a selection of shops and eateries, or to browse the local art gallery. History lovers can explore the Roman fort on the outskirts of town, while picturesque lake cruises depart from the waterside, stopping at Windermere and various points around the lake.
