Stroll just 500 metres to discover the bustling heart of the town with its many independent shops and eateries. Head less than 1 mile in the other direction to find yourselves in Waterhead on the shores of magnificent Windermere. From Waterhead, enjoy a 3-mile, circular walk, taking you through ancient Skelghyll Woods and Jenkins Field, where you can meander through some of the tallest trees in Cumbria, enjoy the views from Jenkins Crag and paddle in the lake. Those keen to venture out onto the water can hire rowing boats or motor day cruisers at Waterhead or book tickets for a cruise.

Enter this tranquil retreat via the boot room, where you can kick off your wellies or walking boots. Put any damp clothing in the washing machine in the adjacent utility room before heading through to the kitchen, with its ample space and accessories for self-catering. There is a handy external door here, plus access to a useful pantry and the downstairs WC. Light the wood burner in the lounge/diner, then enjoy its cosy warmth as you play games at the table, dine together or read your book in a comfortable seat.
