Cressfield Villa is a spacious, warm, and comfortable cottage, praised for its cleanliness and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the proximity to the hotel with excellent food and friendly staff, making it a great base for exploring the area. The property is ideal for families and dog owners, though some mention the garden is not fully dog-proof. While the cottage is generally well-maintained, a few guests note dated furnishings and a lack of welcome packs or local information. Overall, visitors enjoy their stay and many return for repeat visits.
Most guests found the property very clean and tidy, with only occasional minor remarks about areas feeling 'tatty' or dated. Cleanliness is consistently highlighted as a positive aspect.
The villa is well-situated for exploring Dumfries and Galloway, with easy access to the A74 and local attractions. Some guests mention motorway noise and limited nearby activities for families, but overall the location is seen as convenient.
Guests frequently mention comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a cosy atmosphere. A few note uncomfortable sofas and minor maintenance issues, but comfort is generally rated highly.
The cottage is well-equipped for family stays, with a good kitchen and ample space. Some guests mention missing items (e.g., oven gloves, can opener), dated appliances, and a lack of information booklets, but overall facilities meet expectations.
Several guests mention the absence of a welcome pack, local information, or small essentials like soap and dishwasher tablets. While some guests have found small gifts left by previous visitors, these are not guaranteed and should not be expected.

Ecclefechan is a small village, yet its most enduring claim to fame is being the birthplace of Thomas Carlyle, the poet and author, born in 1795. The cottage that he lived in as a child now houses a recreation of an 1800s cottage and is run as a museum by the National Trust for Scotland, which lends a feel to the village that it has been left behind by history. Ecclefechan is perhaps more famous for the Ecclefechan Tart – a taste not to be missed! Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant 20 yards.

The cottage was specious and adequate. The sofas were very old and uncomfortable, felt like the springs had gone but the beds however were very comfortable. A welcome pack would have been nice and an information booklet, which is what we always get when we rent cottages. No dishwasher tablets or hand soap either, just small touches but they do make a difference.

We loved the 3 nights we had here. It is very spacious and has everything you need. The hotel next door was lovely and the food was well worth the money. We will be back
