Guests say

Drovers Cottage receives high praise for its tranquil, secluded setting amidst beautiful countryside, making it ideal for relaxation and walking. Guests consistently mention the peaceful atmosphere, abundant wildlife, and well-equipped, cosy interiors. The cottage is well-situated for exploring local villages, pubs, and attractions. While the shower facilities are limited due to the sloping roof, most guests found the cottage comfortable and appreciated thoughtful touches on arrival. The property is especially popular with dog owners and those seeking a quiet rural escape.

Guests frequently describe the cottage as well-maintained, tidy, and comfortable, with no negative comments regarding cleanliness. The farm and surroundings are also noted as being well kept.

The location is repeatedly highlighted as peaceful, secluded, and surrounded by beautiful countryside, with easy access to walks, wildlife, and local amenities. Proximity to Petersfield and local pubs is also appreciated.

The cottage is described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with underfloor heating and a good mattress. The only minor issue raised is the standard double bed size, which may be small for some, but overall comfort is highly rated.

The cottage is well-equipped for self-catering and relaxation, with positive comments on kitchen facilities and entertainment options. The main drawback is the limited showering facilities due to the sloping roof, but this is clearly explained and did not significantly detract from guests' enjoyment.

Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as welcome packs with milk, tea, coffee, and biscuits. While these gestures are appreciated, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

As the name suggests, Drovers Cottage was formerly a place of rest for drovers (modern day livestock transporters), who travelled hundreds and hundreds of miles with their animals and needed somewhere to rest. The group of fir trees, which still remain to this day, were an easily recognisable landmark even from afar. The fields surrounding the cottage are of archaeological interest, as they were used as Roman camps and often oyster shells can be found, these were brought in barrels from the coast for the Roman warriors to eat, and they tossed the shells into the fields.

Having been totally renovated, Drovers Cottage offers tasteful and well-presented accommodation, and is within easy walking distance to the quaint thatched-roof village, with its shop, beautiful church and two pubs serving good food. This picturesque village is steeped in history, it has a bronze burial in the parish, which dates back to 2000BC. The village was part of the Royal Manor, belonging first to King Alfred the Great, then later William the Conqueror, which is recorded in the Domesday Book.

Within easy reach are the South Downs, Portsmouth, Winchester Cathedral, Southampton with its maritime history, the New Forest, Chichester, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, the Watercress steam train, Jane Austen’s house, Gilbert White’s house and Birdworld. The cottage is in a stunning and private location. It is cosy, but plenty of room. Plenty of walks straight from the door. Close enough to Petersfield and midhurst.

The cottage is in a very quiet setting with access to a footpath into East Meon or further afield. Underfloor heating makes it cosy and the cottage is well equipped. The pubs in West and East Meon are very good and East Meon has a small and basic supermarket that sells newspapers, West Meon's store and cafe is a gem with local produce, Ecover on tap, fresh fruit, veg and bread.
