    Holiday Cottages in Snowdonia

Snowdonia National Park has so much to offer, from stunning natural landmarks to quaint and picturesque villages, as well as, of course, the majestic peak of Mount Snowdon, which you can actually scale by railway if you don’t fancy the walk! This amazing region is perfect for a cottage holiday and you’ll find some stunning holiday cottages in Snowdonia, whether you’re looking for a spacious lodge for large groups of people, or something small and cosy for a romantic escape.

If you’re looking for a relaxing and hassle free holiday, where you maintain complete control over everything, then you can’t beat a cottage holiday. Self-catered accommodation that’s full of home comforts, Snowdonia holiday cottages have all the ingredients for an unforgettable break in the countryside including some really amazing locations, close to beautiful towns and villages, hiking trails and cycling paths.

What to see on your Snowdonia cottage holiday

Snowdonia National Park is, of course, home to the tallest mountain in Wales, Snowdonia. The climb isn’t too challenging, but you’ll definitely feel a sense of achievement when you reach the top! If you don’t fancy the arduous climb you can actually reach the top via Snowdon Mountain Railways, is actually the only rack and pinion railway in the whole UK.

This beautiful National Park is home to some really stunning towns and villages. Certainly one of the most unique is the village of Portmeirion. Built in an Italian style, visiting Portmeirion is like visiting the Mediterranean (admittedly it helps if the sun’s out!) and is well worth stopping by if you’re in the area. Portmeirion was famously the setting of the hit ‘60s science fiction show The Prisoner, and with its idiosyncratic style it’s easy to see why.

Planning some adventuring whilst on holiday in Snowdonia? Then check out our guide to Cave Exploration in the UK, which includes the hidden world beneath the mountains of Snowdonia.

As well as charming villages and beautiful scenery, Snowdonia is steeped in history. Slate minding was one of the biggest industries in the area, and while the mines and quarries have now closed, many have been converted into fascinating museums, such as the National Slate Museum at Gilfach Ddu.

If you’re looking to holiday in the beautiful region of Snowdonia, you’ll find lots of great holiday cottages in Snowdonia to choose from, from charming former mining cottages to larger spacious modern properties filled with home comforts.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Jessie - Verified booking

First time stay at Ty Cynon We couldn’t check in on time we had to wait 30 minutes as the cleaners was still there I’m a high standard lodge cleaner at a holiday park this is not except able it needs a deep clean .

and no excuse for this as myself a cleaner had to be done all the lodges by 2pm I saw the cleaners had no mop bucket only a hoover the floors even tho they are wooden should be mopped every change over day I wiped the kitchen floor the wipe was black not the cleanest of cottages thick dust and hairs in lots of places spiders and cobwebs behind the sofa and other places the cleaners are hoovering around furniture not moving it as underneath the table and coffee table food and dust as a cleaner myself we had to do this every change over day it’s not expectable at least the cleaners did turn up at the accommodation as last place we stayed with Sykes the cleaners didn’t turn up hadn’t been cleaned. A bit of let down with Sykes again not sure who responded for the cleaning if it’s the owner or Sykes . A good cottage in a good location for us . We stay in lots of lodges and cottages in north wales and in Blaenau Ffestiniog.Good Wi-Fi . Good views Everything we needed the owner thought out lots of things and the shed was lots in there to go to beach and crabbing etc . Very well equipped. only thing the tin opener needs replacing I normally take one myself but I had forgotten it things like this could be checked by the cleaners . Stained cups and lots of dirty pans which I had to re wash yet again this should be the cleaners job . myself as had cleaner had to check on all kitchen equipment on every change over day . Couldn’t sit outside the bins smelt of maggots and lots of midges outside and couldn’t sit outside the back garden kept biting us and couldn’t have the windows and doors open they kept coming in . Think the bins should be moved into the car park space, car parking is over the road signed posted . It’s on a small road but lots of public paths so lots of people do walk by . No instructions on who and what days and where the bins go out I only saw the neighbours put them out so I put them out never had to do this before at a holiday let it’s shouldn’t be the guests responsibility to do this. No information pack folder either which normally there is in a holiday let inside the folder instructions on how to use tv . Cooker . Microwave . . Washing . Tumble drying . The wifi code check in and check out times. Owners details. What need to do on check out day strip bedding which I done lot of this in a holiday lets buy normally a laundry bag to put it in there isn’t one . Walks round the area. How far nearest beach. Snowdon . Nearest Bank’s supermarket.pubs cafes. Tearooms . Restaurants . Hospitals . Doctors. . Chemist. . Dentist. Opticians. Etc. my feedback on the first I put bad as Sykes do ask how was the first night they did phone myself the next day and asked did I want a cleaner to come back again I did refuse this as I didn’t want them coming in when I had all my stuff inside. Just slight improvement needed.

The cottage was beautiful, lovely fireplace and felt really comfy for our family to have cosy, board game nights by the fire.

The hosts left a bottle of wine and some chocolates which was a lovely touch (although I’m heavily pregnant so couldn’t drink the wine.) The property itself was lovely and just as expected. The reason I’ve rated slightly lower for facilities and amenities is due to two things. 1) The location is really a 20 minute drive from anywhere nice. The actual town itself is a bit run down and finding good food there was a struggle. However, if you’re happy with the drive then there’s a few good places in Porthmadog and also the Ty-Gwyn restaurant was AMAZING!! 2) This was due to the lack of essentials - we were provided with one toilet roll (for a family of 3 - including a pregnant woman who is weeing every 2 mins) and when questioned about where I can find more, I was informed that guests usually bought their own on their first shop…. Using the toilet is a basic need and I wouldn’t have expected to have had to buy my own loo roll. They did say I could use one from the cleaners cupboard when I realised I’d ran out but I think for a 4 night stay there should be at least 3/4 loo rolls available. Similarly, a main feature of the cottage is the fireplace and it would have been nice to be provided with enough firewood for our stay. We were provided with one bag which lasted the first evening and the hosts also said we could use some spare firewood when we had a power-cut but again, we were expected to buy our own for the last 3 nights. As the fireplace is the main source of heating/hot water, therefore a basic need, again I feel this should have been provided. Overall, a lovely cottage with beautiful scenery, lots of things to do just a 20 minute drive or so away and the hosts were friendly. Just ensure you pack some extra loo roll and jumpers for your visit so you don’t get stuck on the loo/ cold if you run out of firewood.

There is a lot of space for a couple.

A small bedroom / shower room in the "shepherd's hut" and a add on kitchen / living room on the side. There is a generous amount of usable space outside and many seating options - a swing seat, a table and chairs, a bench with a coffee table, another table and chairs, two loungers on the lawn, two loungers by the stream and a bench by the stream. All of the furniture - inside and out - is in good shape However you want to sit around - in the sun, out of the sun, inside, out, etc etc there is an option. For a couple of days it was quite rainy but we were comfortable in the living room area I think the description of the walk to the beach says 20 minutes. I would say it is more like 5 minutes over the dunes. We could not see the sea from the hut but we could hear it! The beach is amazing, wide, golden sand. When the sun sets, it is over the sea Generally it is in a good place to use as a base, Cader Idris is a short car ride away. The train station is a 10 minute walk

We had a lovely time at the Shepherd's hut, and in terms of comfort, furnishings, equipment, outdoor space and privacy, the accommodation would rival any cottage.

Set back from the road, and screened by mature bushes and trees, it was the perfect place for a relaxing stay with good parking and access from the road. It was brilliant having 2 separate huts and both were very spacious and generously and thoughtfully equipped with everything to make our stay comfortable and cosy. The outside space was just as good and the garden was lovely with various seating areas, BBQ, fire pit and very private. The location was perfect with the beach, golf course and Aberdovey train station within easy walking distance. We also walked from the beach to Aberdovey (30 mins) and Tywyn (approx 1 hour). Aberdovey itself was lovely, and we enjoyed excellent food at the Indian restaurant (cash only) the 'Coast Bistro' and fish and chips from 'Walkers'. The pubs were very friendly as well. We really enjoyed our stay at the Shepherd's hut and hope to return again in the future.

      OMG, what can I say?

Kay and Jeff have an absolute gem of a place here, a 5-minute walk to the beach , a 5-minute drive to shops and food places, great fish, and chip shop !! That's the area sorted now for the best bit the hut and the living area including the patio area and garden are AMAZING, we have been to a few huts now, mainly in Norfolk but this place has just blown us away, we had a little hamper on arrival it was clean and decorated to a great standard we had a week in the hut and the weather was amazing considering it was 1st week in September we needed to get away and recharge this place certainly gave us that opportunity I can't reccomend this place highly enough absolutely great hosts and lovely part of Wales we will be returning for a short break again maybe next year well done kay and Jeff 5 stars 110%

    Things to do near Snowdonia

    • Natural Landmark Natural Landmark
    Snowdonia National Park
Snowdonia National Park is a spectacular area, made up of mountains and glacial landforms popular with hikers. The park's historic Snowdon Mountain Railway climbs to the summit of Wales's highest mountain, Mount Snowdon, offering views across the sea to Ireland.

    Frequent questions

    • Is Snowdonia free to visit?

Yes, Snowdonia National Park in Wales is generally free to visit. The park itself is open to the public, and you can explore its natural beauty, hiking trails, and scenic viewpoints without an admission fee. However, there might be some specific attractions or facilities within the park that require a fee, such as parking at certain trailheads, visitor centres, guided tours, or activities like the Snowdon Mountain Railway.

    • How many days do you need for Snowdonia?

The ideal duration for a visit to Snowdonia National Park depends on your interests and the activities you plan to undertake. To enjoy some of the popular hiking trails, take in the breathtaking landscapes, and explore the area, a stay of 2 to 4 days would provide a good balance. This timeframe allows you to experience the beauty of the park without feeling rushed.

    • What is the best month to visit Snowdonia?

The best months to visit Snowdonia National Park are typically from late spring to early autumn, specifically May to September. During this period, the weather is generally milder, the days are longer, and the park's natural beauty is at its peak with blooming flora and clear hiking paths. However, keep in mind that weather in mountainous regions can be unpredictable, so it's wise to be prepared for various conditions regardless of the season.

    • Can you just walk up Snowdon?

Yes, you can walk up Snowdon, the highest mountain in Snowdonia National Park and in Wales. There are several hiking trails leading to the summit, ranging in difficulty and length. The most popular route is the Llanberis Path, which is relatively gradual (thus making it the longest) and follows the mountain railway up the summit. However, even though it's considered a "walk," it's important to be prepared with appropriate clothing, footwear, and supplies, as the weather conditions can change quickly, especially at higher elevations. Whichever route you opt for, be aware that it involves a demanding 5 to 8-hour hike with limited protection from the elements.
