What our customers say about their holidays

    • Karen - Verified booking

Jane was a wonderful host; she was there to welcome us even though we were running late.

The welcome saw us being introduced to our very clean and massive pod for our stay. Jane explained how to use everything and what was required. We absolutely recommend a long stay here. Wish we could have stayed longer than the two days. Smart toilet seat - google Japanese toilet - bed that massages you to sleep; turns itself off. Milk, cream buns and Prosecco in the fridge along with fresh bread and local biscuits from Walkers biscuit factory just down the road. A grand boxed selection of fruit teas and coffee pods for the machine Clean and compact. Really no need to take an oven glove or extras like Sykes recommended as were not required. I did needed to buy sauce at the local shops - 5 minute drive or there about - for our fry up but I bet you even as I type Jane is on the case. It was a home from home experience. Then the amazing swimming pool come hot tub! This was main reason I chose Jane’s retreat but it was so much more than we expected. For folk that need swim training take a holiday here; you can thank me later! The wet room is large and so easy to use before and after the hot tub. Moss of Bourach is about 1/2 mile from Ben Rinnes Distillery and from the public carpark there you can join a path so you can walk up Ben Rinnes. Jane has a booklet includes information regarding the workings of equipment and has taken her time to make sure there is local info and safety regs sorted in her booklet. With the views and sunsets this is a place we will return to, with its wonderful host too. Thank you Jane. Your hard work will we are sure will pay off - oh we even enjoyed our stomp through the bog woods right next door!

On arrival we have to say we didnt feel welcomed to the property at all.

Firstly, there was wet towels still in the washing from previous guests which I had to hang up to dry ( tried the dryer 3 times on 60minutes but still soaking wet!). This was not a good start. We found half eaten food in the freezer (ice cream and chips). It was told to us in the instruction manual that we were given dishwasher tablets, tea, coffee etc to start us off, this was non existent. We also read in the manual about previous complaints, the owners clearly dont seem to take constructive criticism very well. The property could have been cleaner as we found food fragments on the kitchen cupboards and dishwasher, hair in the shower, marks and dust all over the tv. The quality of the beds were not good as they were very uncomfortable. In the master bedroom,it wasn't a double bed,it was two singles pushed together which caused an issue. We swapped with our daughters to suit us all better but was disappointed. General factilies were good (apart from the dryer) with the house being very well equipped. Garden was lovely and we really enjoyed the hot tub after having busy days out. Location was also gorgeous and it was perfect being so close to beaches, shops etc. Overall good but lots of room for improvement. Definitely needs a bit more cleaning and care taken and perhaps something to welcome guests on arrival.

We take cottage/log cabin holidays 2 to 3 times a year more often in Scotland.

We’ve not had a bad holiday yet but we have to say this is a stand out experience. We’ve never had such a great welcome before, being diligently shown around the property by the owner Jane who explained all the amazing equipment including Alexa controlled lights and heating and the huge hot tub/pool. We used it every night even in the rain as it covered within the barn which doesn’t obscure your view outside. Jane provided us with a lovely local lemon drizzle cake, an ice cold bottle of Prosecco and a fresh baked loaf amongst other things in the welcome pack. She even topped us up with coffee machine pods. During our stay we were afforded complete privacy and Jane was always on hand for any advice about the property and local area. We normally travel in a group of four to six family or friends but this was a rare excursion as a couple for which this property and local area was ideal. Would highly recommend for couples and we certainly look forward to visiting again as a couple. Well done Jane and thanks for a fantastic holiday. Karen & John.

Really feel the online information does not do this property justice.

Having said that, the added extras - such as boiling water tap and Japanese toilet - were additional welcome surprises. The starter pack of local produce - including fresh bakers bread and the best carrot cake ever tasted (sadly the local baker had none left when we visited to buy some on our departure day), along with Walkers shortbread etc etc - was most appreciated after an 8hr journey due to road closures, the satnav apparently losing signal going through the Cairngorms and other factors. Hope to book soon to return next year. Jane has truly, in our opinion, found her vocation in life, she is the best host balancing interaction with privacy. The family pets were an added bonus for us (although kept at distance if disliked), and the multiple deer sightings within the grounds and on approach were amazing. The pool just speaks for itself - brilliant to have our own personal pool truly at our disposal for that week. It was all we hoped it would be and more! Tranquil, secluded surroundings made for a very relaxing week!

We are return bookers of Strathnaver the last time being September three years ago.

We found the house totally unchanged. The House is in real need of refurbishment. Examples such as Bedding and Duvets and glassware need replacement. Obvious fabric Maintenance is required of things like Doors, the Front Door jamming, Balcony doors stuck, also the En-suite Shower glass door jamming closed which is not safe. Vertical Blinds in the Large front bathroom even had blades missing with poor function so no privacy. We had low log supplies inside and nothing available outside on arrival so had to call housekeeper for delivery, it was minus 5C outside, house was cool, so we used electric heaters. Asked to wash towels on departure in the House Guide book and strip beds used but no wash tablets left. Lack of basic cleaning materials. High occupancy of up to 8 people is very obviously taking its toll of wear on the basic facilities of this house. Regardless of this we love Strathnaver it has a very unique homely feel and yes we would rebook in the future. An honest review from regular Home renters.
