"I wanted self-catering accommodation for a week's stay in the NW Highlands focussed on hill-walking. I was with a mate so we wanted two bedrooms. Mackenzie cottage is quite spacious, much better than the outside headline photo of the cottage suggests (the additional photos of the interior of the cottage give a much more realistic idea of the space). My bedroom was a good size with a very large and comfortable (not too soft) double bed. The location as a whole is very quiet, great for sleep! Poolewe has a small but handy Mace village shop/post office, a nice cafe plus the Poolewe hotel/pub which has good pub food served until 9:00 pm and was popular. There are bigger grocery shops in Gairloch, about 5 miles away. The area has spectacular beauty with access to a range of great hills, notably the Torridon hills, roughly a 45-minute drive away. The cottage is excellently presented and all devices worked well: kitchen appliances, washing machine, TV etc. the cottage was very clean, neat and tidy and well-maintained. There is excellent parking adjacent to the cottage in a large shared parking strip - plenty of room. The cottage has a small but nice back garden although we didn't really use that. Interior decor seemed good, as far as I noticed, with a kind of upmarket beachcomber theme, blended with some more traditional antlers dotted here and there (well, it is the Highlands). I tried to think of something the owner could do to improve the cottage but couldn't come up with anything which is perhaps the best compliment I can give."

"Though from the property description we were expecting bed linen we had taken towels and tea towels, but there were ample supplied along with plenty of all of the standard kitchen cleaning products that you’d find at home. This was a pleasant and unexpected surprise that we feel is worth sharing with future guests. We found that the £10 electricity allowance was sufficient to get us through the week (even in November with dark nights and a chill in the air), we even enjoyed two or three hours in the sauna. There are no pictures of the sauna on the site, but to satisfy your curiosity it is quite small, but will comfortably house two adults any more that that would be a tight squeeze! There is a large walled garden with a family picnic bench overlooking the sea, with the mountains in the background. This is a great space for your dogs to run free in a safe environment. If you are looking for something to do, head out toward Gairloch (there’s a great beach) and a trip to the Fairy Loch and the plane crash site is well worth a visit, the start of the well signed walk/climb is only a few minutes outside of town. Nov 2011."

"We stayed at Riverview over the New Year as we are checking out areas with a view to moving to Scotland and wanted to see this area in the winter. We were so impressed it's now our first choice as Gairloch/Poolewe have everything we could ask for. Stunning scenery, beautiful beaches, enough amenities and a proper community feel. The cottage itself was absolutely perfect for what we wanted, especially as we have 3 dogs and were able to bring them with us. This is quite simply the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed at. We can't come up with anything the owners haven't already thought of. It's like a tardis, moderate from the outside and huge inside, with all mod cons but still a very cosy feel to it. We were greeted on arrival with fresh flowers, wine and chocolates all of which were greatly appreciated after a 12 hour drive. If you can visit out of the main season this is a real bargain and we would recommend it to anyone, but if you have young children beware the river is literally across the road. We would stay here again and have recommended it to friends and family."

"My son and I spent a week in Torburn Cottage at the end of August, 2015 The cottage was easy to find and on arrival we had a warm welcome from Hannah. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the sofas are so comfortable :) also, lovely fresh linen on comfy beds. A complete home from home. The only downside was that the bath is a bit cracked but that's nothing major, plenty of towels were available, in fact everything is provided from a scourer sponge to dishwasher tablets even a kitchen roll!On a chilly night you can look at the stars through the dormer window. It is really a beautiful cottage and it is well laid out. Nice and private with beautiful gardens on a hillside with wonderful views. The only sound you hear is the sheep, just what I needed gloriously peaceful. I would definitely recommend a stay at Torburn cottage.Mobile phone signal not so good but many phone boxes dotted around. Local supermarket fairly close by and a Tesco supermarket in Dingwall approx 1.5hrs away, we did a basic shop there just in case but bought everything else locally or in Gairloch."

"We really enjoyed our stay at Deo Na Mara. It was a real chill out place with walks direct from the doorstep. I enjoyed the walk along the side of the burn and onto the shore of Loch Ewe, with access before the red phone box. You can walk for miles from there.I woke on Monday and opened the curtains, to see an otter on the shore. I took a picture of it only to accidentally delete it in my excitement. I was gutted as I never saw it again that week. (A good excuse to go back again!)We enjoyed the beaches in the local area at Firemore, Guinard, Gairloch, Mellon Udrigle and Red Point. We also visited Ullapool for fish and chips by Loch Broom in the sunshine. We can't fault the garden or the house; it was all great. The sight of two bats swooping down and gobbling up the nasty midges was greatly satisfying, after suffering a few bites on our arrival, but thankfully that was the worst we had.A fabulous holiday was all! A real credit to the owner."
