What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Christopher Hensher - Verified booking

This apartment enjoys a fantastic location and has many excellent features but also some that disappoint. The spacious terrace and garden have an incredible view while the back gate leads straight out onto the well-maintained coastal path, with stupendous walks in both directions. The living room, bedroom 1 and en-suite 1 are all excellent. The same cannot be said of bedroom 2. It has a damp, musty smell and the bed is squeezed in. It has no carpet, no dressing table nor shelf for bits-and-pieces and no mirror. Its ensuite likewise has no shelf to put anything down on (just an above-basin bathroom cabinet), no towel rail or equivalent, no toilet roll holder and no fittings for bits-and-pieces in the shower. What is there is of good quality but there’s too much missing in bedroom and en-suite 2 for an adult or couple to spend a week in it comfortably. The kitchen is well-equipped but appalling badly lit – just tiny downlighters over the table and an over-hob lamp. In the evening the washing-up/microwave area is in virtual darkness. Cutlery, crockery and gadgets are plentiful and well-chosen and fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing-machine are all excellent. However, the choice for a holiday let of an AGA-style ‘Everhot’ cooker with its 130-page manual is surprising to say the least. We mastered it after a while. Recycling and rubbish instructions are difficult to comply with but a helpful person at the Original Cottages office sorted out one of the problems for us. The utility room is a good feature. Whether one or two bedrooms will be occupied by adults will probably determine how you feel about the accommodation. The car park was relatively empty otherwise it might have been a squeeze for a large car. So there are a few things that could be better but it has to be said that the outstanding location and much of the interior will probably make up for the other shortcomings.

Great location, great patio.Did seem very open to neighbours but they were very quiet. Some crockery was not clean. Had to re-wash. Very poor instructions on removal of rubbish. sure what to leave where ( we were not prepared to go the tip as requested in the book). The Swansea guide in the book was several years old so had to check website. Even so, left pink bag out (next to one that looked like it had been there for a while, and neither were collected. Then, no spare food waste bags or black bag in the property- meant we used a pink bag in the main waste bin and so left in the apartment- Felt we had no choice. Bed in front bedroom very squeaky, had to relocate to the room at the back with the better bed but no sea view. That was very very disappointing . Cooker was very complicated and the note left by a previous visitor in the book which informed us it takes 2+hours for the cooker to warm up enough to cook pizza was very very useful. Style of house a bit mixed up, modern and contemporary but then parts very old fashioned. Did wonder if mid renovation as could see nails in the architrave on front ensuite bathroom. The garden hedging on the left as you look out was very high, felt the view would have really been opened up if that was cut down a few feet. Overall, however, a great week in Gower and the location makes up for a lot.

Issue with the toilet flush on last day of holiday. Managed to contact office before it closed Friday afternoon and soon afterwards received message to say member of maintenance team would be out shortly, no one turned up. However real problem occurred later in evening when elderly resident in flat below had to come up to say water was leaking into her flat. Phoned office and left answer machine message. Eventually found stopcock with aid of neighbour but then had no water for remainder of our stay. Left second answer machine message before we left on Saturday but no response to either. I classed this as an emergency as she had water within her light fittings so it would be good to get a response if the answer machine is monitored. Fortunately for us the problem occurred at the end of our holiday and we managed without water. I must say the elderly neighbour was a delight who at the age of 90 was more concerned for us even offing to make us cups of tea, but we took ourselves off for a breakfast elsewhere.

The whole visit was totally impersonal. We used be able to collect the keys from the office. Then we had an issue with the remotes for the television which did not match the instruction booklet;: instead of phoning our local and formerly very friendly and efficient office just down the road, we got through to Norfolk. The response to our remote control dilemma was not reassuring. (As it was, my husband was able to sort out the remotes, using the one from the bedroom TV). We left early in the week, due to the bad weather and illness. There was no indication about how to leave the flat, so we tidied up as best as we could. We didnot get this information till the day before we should have left. Finally, your black logo on the window of the local office does not make you think of sea, sand and sunshine. Disappointing - we had been coming to this property for a number of years, but will have to think again.

We loved everything about this cottage BUT ONE THING….which we thought was ridiculous for any holiday maker to have to do. The bins!! Happy to sort out rubbish into separate bags etc but then to be required to drive to the local recycling plant is really a step too far - particularly as there were bins for the other properties next to us…. Bins could be sorted! The journey to the centre was out of our way and was not a pleasant end to our experience. This is a shame because everything else was perfect…but it was such major issue for us..what if you didn’t have a car??? I have never ever known anything like this before in any accommodation we’ve stayed in - really not good enough
