"My mum and I enjoyed a short stay at the bothy. It should have been a full week but unfortunately was cut short due to illness.Andrew the owner was very welcoming, he met us at the property and showed us around. I had spoken to Andrew previously regarding taking my cat and he had been very nice and assured me that it was fine. A lovely cake and fresh flowers were in the cottage on our arrival.I was slightly disappointed with the accomodation initially as I had thought there was a separate bedroom and in fact it is all one room which is divided by chipboard partitions, the bedroom partition did not reach the ceiling. This didn't cause a problem really but I think needs to be clearer on the pics or description. The two single beds are built in and unfortunately the mattresses are well past their best, the duvets (for us) were not sufficiently warm for a Scottish winter. We added the extra blanket and the hot water bottles which made it warm enough. There are screw ends poking through in the bedroom cupboard which are very sharp. The large storage radiator didn't work. The sofa in the living room was very uncomfortable unfortunately, again I think it has seen better days and needs replacing. We loved the woodburner, but would have liked instruction on the various knobs and their usage. There were a large number of safety hazards which we feel need addressed immediately. The appliance plugs are all plugged into adapters. The kettle, toaster and microwave were all plugged in to an adapter beside the kettle which leaked. Water and electricity do not mix.The kitchen was very basic, some of the doors not opening. We had been cooking for 4 (table has 4 chairs) family stay close in Montrose and had given us some fresh crab to have for dinner. Unfortunately no pots big enough to cook more than one crab at a time. Other kitchen items missing (measuring jug, scales, bowls etc) so no family dinner for 4.I knew when booking that it was a bothy and as such is a no frills accommodation but this was expensive for what we got. I was also really surprised after having read the reviews and the high ratings, that what we got was just not what we had expected. I am sad to have had to write what seems to be such a negative review but it is an honest one.The positioning of the bothy is fantastic for access to the beach, which is a gem. There is easy access to the beach if you are able bodied but not otherwise. You do need a car to get to the property and access to shops in Montrose. We did enjoy the time spent at the bothy and it was very clean and tidy. I am sure Andrew would have provided the items we needed had we asked but we felt that they should have been provided. Unfortunately we will not be returning to the Bothy. No malice is intended with this review and comments and I hope Andrew will take on board the safety issues.Best wishes."

"I felt the owners of this cottage are no longer interested in it. It had a slightly down at heel look about it, with walls needing some repairs and the trees outside needing cut back to let in more light. It was dark. It just felt unloved and uncared for. Having said that, the kitchen was well equipped and the two beds in the twin room (although dressed sloppily)were comfortable, so my husband I had had good sleeps. The toilet is quite a trek through the house if you are older and need to be up a few times during the night. There was no information in the cottage about when the bin would be collected or,which bin it would be. The result is that we left two bins, one almost full (it was half full on our arrival) and the other half full. Not very pleasant for the next guests I thought. Also there was coal for the fire, but in a cupboard and we didn’t notice it until the second morning. No information on this either. A fire was needed to make the cottage warm in addition to the electric heating. There were no logs provided. The information pack provided seemed to date from 2006. So, out of date, saying there was a bakery in Edzell! No, not for a long time I was informed when I asked! It is a quirky cottage which we quite liked, but not enough to return. When we came to leave there was nobody about and no information as to what to do with the key."

"House was fabulous with everything we needed, most of all space, couldn’t believe the cooking utensils and Crockery, the kitchen is a chef’s dream, we made some wonderful dishes from seafood paella to steaks, all locally sourced. The house itself was beautiful and situated right on the beach with sea views, if we got tired at looking at the waves we could watch the rabbits playing in the Garden. This truly was a relaxing 5 star retreat. If you book this you will not be disappointed! The village was superb and the locals very friendly, we visited the village restaurant and the pub, walked to Gourdon to pick up locally sourced sea food and on other day had a drink at Gourdon pub whilst waiting on our fish suppers from Chip Shop! Most of all enjoyed sitting back at night enjoying a drink in front of the open fire, really felt at home. If I was to give criticism it could only be that there was not a Garlic crusher lol... this house is fabulous and we will be rebooking, already looked at Christmas week but is already booked, however we will be back, thanks for having us.Es war ein tolles Haus direkt am Strand. Wir kommen gerne mal wieder!!!We appreciated the big garden, the roomy cottage and it’s incomparable location close to the beach."

"My husband and me were met by the owners Jane and Ian. Ian helped my husband with the luggage, then Jane showed us around this beautiful cottage. The living room has comfortable seating, lots of good books and information about the surrounding area, a wood burning fire and Jane had filled a vase with gorgeous lillies. The kitchen has everything you need, and all good quality, and there was a tray laid out with scones, jam, cream and strawberries. A lovely touch. The good size bathroom has a bath and walk in shower, again, Jane supplied shower gell, bubble bath and toilet rolls. The towels were lovely too. The bedroom has a huge bed which is very comfortable, it also has two good size fitted wardrobes and a full length mirror. There are plenty of electrical sockets. The whole house, we thought was excellent, and Jane and Ian were always on hand asking if we needed anything. I loved the way Jane filled the bird feeders every day, as I could watch finches, blackbirds, woodpecker and a red squirrel daily. We did a lot of touring in the Glens and on the coast, if you geocache, there are plenty hidden all around. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to stay there ourselves in the future."
