Not only is this a stunning place to stay, but Angus offers some delicious local produce too. While here be sure to try Aberdeen Angus beef or Arbroath Smokies. There is a rich history in this region too which can be explored through the museums, abbeys and castles. "The lodge was looking very tired, and in our week there the washing machine broke, the bin lid broke, the tumble dryer stopped working, the TV reception was intermittent, there was no WIFI and the hot water tank didn't seem to hold enough water for four of us to shower in the morning. But the staff were fantastic and came to fix the washing machine almost straight away and explained that the tv interference was being caused by the trees. Strangely, we've been in quite a few different lodges and have never had a problem with tv reception before, so perhaps it is just the lodge that we were in that was affected? The bin lid wasn't really a problem and the tumble dryer gave up the ghost on our second last day, so we just reported these to reception on leaving."

"The road up to the newer lodges is full of potholes that can't really be avoided. I suspect this is a work in progress. The Byron lodge itself is beautifully designed and decorated with fixtures and fittings of a high standard. One flaw we felt however is unlike the Muirloch lodges which have 2 doors into the bedroom (one dedicated door and the other via the bathroom) the Byron lodge has one door which goes into the bathroom from the living area meaning if your partner is in the bathroom you are trapped at either end. As these are essentially "couples" lodges this isn't a major issue however if you come away for a romantic weekend you don't particularly want to have to walk by your partner on the toilet.....it kind of ruins the magic."

"The cabin was great, the only downfall was there wasn't any instructions for the Sauna and when we figured out how to work it it just didn't heat up at all and didn't work so we didn't get to use this which was quite disappointing. Other than that the cabin was a lot more spacious than it looks in the pictures, I personally don't think the pictures do it justice. The hot tub was great. Maybe if you get more than one toilet roll and some washing up liquid it would also be a bit better! Other than that it is great value for money. I would advise them to get rid of carpets as well as when you are coming in and out from the hot tub the carpets end up soaking."

"Sofas and bed very uncomfortable. Dining chairs different heights, padding worn out and broken backs. Ancient dishwasher didn't work and was replaced by one equally ancient and filthy which also didn't work. Washing machine broken too. Mismatched and bent cutlery. Missing glasses and crockery. Chipped pyrex. Dripping taps. Lighting so poor impossible to read a newspaper in the evening. Rusty outdoor furniture on balcony. No washing up liquid or brush or cleaning cloth to wipe kitchen table and surfaces. Filthy floor, made filthier by muddy walkways. Heating either on or off, and very cold when off."

"Great relaxing place to spend some quality time with family. Marked the furniture & fittings down as some of the furniture had some obvious wear and tear marks ( leather sofa had been torn and sown back together again. Corner cupboard door in kitchen quite loose and looked as though it was hanging off, TV remote missing back cover for batteries) Cleanliness marked down as the wooden floors upstairs were pretty grubby, within an hour of arrival our 2yr olds feet were not just dirty, they were black! Carpets downstairs in the bedrooms could be doing with a freshen up, several marks/stains."
