Pantomime season is here, oh yes it is!
With Christmas fast approaching pantomimes will be gracing stages across the UK. From Jack and the Beanstalk to Cinderella, there is something for you. These shows are great entertainment for the kids and are also a lovely way for all the family to get in the festive spirit.
For many a trip to the panto is synonymous with a visit to whichever theatre is closest, but it doesn’t always need to be this way. We have a selection of top pantomimes for you in towns and city’s across England. Perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to have one of these on your doorstep and if not, why not make a weekend of it? So whether you go every year, or you’ve never been before we have some top shows for you; with start studded casts and beautiful facades.
This year the Bristol Hippodrome is showing a performance of Cinderella from 10th December to 8th January. This stunning theatre opened in 1912 and has been delighting audiences since. With the largest stage outside of London and enough seats to host almost 2,000 spectators, don’t miss a show here this Christmas. To top things off, Torvill & Dean will be making an appearance as the Fairy Godparents.
The Pomegranate Theatre in Chesterfield is showing Aladdin this Christmas from 2nd December to 3rd January. This pretty theatre is a Grade II listed building and is a lovely place to watch a panto. This year’s star-studded cast is set to include Liz McClarnon, winner of Celebrity Masterchef and a star from Atomic Kitten.
Aladdin is also gracing the stage at The Lighthouse, Poole from 7th December to 8th January. This arts centre is the largest outside of London and has over 600 seats in its theatre. This classic pantomime tale will be spun with the help of stars Peter Duncan, Max Bowden and Sapphire Elia.
Kings Theatre Portsmouth will be delighting audiences from near and far this winter with a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk. Tickets are available from 6th December to 1st January. Open since 1907, this grand old theatre is capacious with over 1,500 seats – sure to make for a great atmosphere with all the booing and cheering! Stars Vicki Michelle, Anne Hegerty and Marcus Patric will be making an appearance.
Jack and the Beanstalk will also be making an appearance at the Central Theatre in Chatham, Kent from 8th – 31st December. The cast will be peppered with stars including Robin Cousins, Hannah Jane Fox, Joe Tracini, Graham Cole, Tracey Penn and Ian Mowat. Be ready for a Pantomime to remember in this beautiful theatre.
Peter Pan will be coming to the Alhambra Theatre, Bradford from 17th December to 29th January. Yorkshire comedian Billy Pearce will be sure to get the family laughing in this Pantomime, where stars Darren Day, Charlie Hardwick and Jon Lee will also feature. The Alhambra Theatre is is a Grade II listed building and named after a Spanish Palace and will add some extra magic to any trip to the panto.
Aladdin will be gracing the stage at the Grand Opera House York from 9th December – 1st January. This beautiful Grade II listed building opened as a theatre and opera house in 1902 with a Pantomime. Entertaining theatre goers for over a century, a Pantomime here is sure to be a performance to remember. This year the star-studded cast will include Suzanne Shaw, Paul Sinha, Debbie McGee, Carl Tracey, Frazer Hines and Stuart Wade.
Sleeping Beauty will be gracing the stage at Malvern Theatres, Worcestershire from 15th December to 8th January. This Pantomime will include stars Gillian Wright, Amy Thompson, Chris Pizzey, Rebecca Wheatley and Quinn Patrick. Found within the Winter Gardens complex this theatre is in a lovely spot and will be great entertainment for the whole family.
9. Richmond, North Yorkshire
The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, North Yorkshire will be showing Snow White this Pantomime season; from 3rd December to 8th January. This performance may not have dazzling celebrity appearances but it has been touted as one of the best theatres in all the UK to see a Pantomime. Built in 1788, this Grade I listed theatre only seats 214 but it is full of charm and a beautiful place to soak up all the Pantomime magic this winter.
Cinderella is getting a long run at the Royal Theatre, Newcastle this winter; from 22nd November to 15th January. This performance will get all the family chuckling with the help of Danny Adams, Clive Webb and Chris Hayward. Not only that but the Royal Theatre is a stunning Grade I listed building from 1837 with seating across four levels. It is a beautiful theatre that will make an afternoon at the panto even more special.
