Bakewell
Bakewell is a truly gorgeous market town, but if that is not enough to persuade you it is also famous for its delicious pudding. It is a must try when you are visiting. During your stay work up an appetite for the sweet treats with a stroll around town; it is full of quaint charm with stone houses, a picturesque five arched bridge and the tranquil river Wye. If you time your visit well, you can also take in the excellent food market and all the local produce on offer. It’s a bustling, beautiful town and one of the Peak District’s finest.

Eyam
For somewhere steeped in a rich and intriguing history it doesn’t get much better than Eyam in the Peak District. Although strictly a village, this spot shouldn’t be missed on your next visit to this stunning National Park. Known as the plague village, this village is famous for self-quarantining itself during an outbreak of the bubonic plague. It is a remarkable and heartbreaking story. Visit this beautiful place to learn more about its tragic history and the incredible resolve of its inhabitants.

Castleton
If you have a love of impressive countryside and adventures, then this village might just be the perfect place for you. Sheltered by Mam Tor you’ll find stunning, stoney landscapes here. If you’re feeling energetic there is a two-hour circular route you can do of Mam Tor; just don’t forget your camera because the views are worth the walk. For more climbing, take the steep steps up to the ancient ruins of Peveril Castle. There are also impressive caves and delicious tea rooms to be found here. It is an ideal place for getting out and exploring all the wonders of the Peak District.

Hathersage
The delightful village of Hathersage is a popular spot with walkers and climbers. From moorland to the heights of Higgar Tor there are numerous walking opportunities for a whole range of abilities. Rock climbers are well catered for here, as are cyclists. The history of the area is also worth exploring; with links to Robbin Hood, the famous Eyre family and Charlotte Bronte. So whether you visit for the climbing, the history, the pub lunch or something in between, Hathersage is a lovely spot for a week in the Peak District.

Buxton
So not strictly within the Peak District, but surrounded by it on three sides, we couldn’t leave this town off our list. With a wealth of festivals throughout the year, the tranquil pavilion gardens and a rich history, this spa town has it all. You’ll find festivals that to cater to all sorts of interests, from Well-Dressing to Opera. Tire the kids out at Go Ape or stroll the streets and take in the stunning Georgian and Victorian architecture. You’ll find top-notch eateries here too, along with a great choice of music and theatre. We can certainly see why this is a popular base to explore the Peak District from.
