What our customers say about their holidays

    • Rhiannon - Verified booking

We had a lovely stay at Rhos Y Foel.

The cottage was clean and tidy, with everything we needed for a weeks stay. The lounge area was comfortable and we made full use of the hot tub, even on the few rainy days we had. The kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher, large oven, fridge with a small freezer, and a washer/dryer. The drawers had plenty of crockery, pans, trays and utensils. The bedrooms and bathroom were clean and comfortable, although the mattress on the king size bed could do with replacing or flipping. We both had sore backs by the end of the week, and on stripping the bed as per Covid instructions, noticed that there was no support where the mattress had dipped. The cottage was warm and cosy with the underfloor heating. The local garage and shop in Four Crosses (Y Ffor) sells kindling and logs for the wood burner if other residents want to light the wood burner. The garden was secure for our large husky/malamute cross, with an interlinking paddock with the cottage next door giving more secure space (the other cottage was unoccupied). You can enjoy walks along the roads around the site with lovely views of the coast and local woodland. The garden is private and over looks fields and the hills of the Llyn. The owners were around and made us feel welcome, but were not intrusive. We used to live in the area, and have family still living there, so it was an ideal base to safely visit those we could. We enjoyed the beaches and walks around the Llyn Peninsular, including the estuary in Criccieth and the beaches at Morfa Nefyn and Porthdinllaen. Located centrally, we were close to Pwllheli where there are plenty of shops and local independent retailers in the surrounding areas. There are also plenty of retailers in Criccieth, Porthmadog and further afield to Caernarfon and Bangor. Overall, we had a relaxing week in the cottage and would highly recommend the cottage for a peaceful stay.

      Lovely cottage with stunning views!

We enjoyed our stay. The owners seemed friendly. Easy drive to Pwllheli, Nefyn and surrounding areas. The living room/kitchen was light and spacious, and the garden was secure for the dogs. Cooking utensils were provided, and there was a small under-counter fridge for those wanting to cook at the cottage. The sofas and beds weren’t the comfiest, but they were okay for a few nights. The bathroom was nice, although the extractor fan was temperamental. The wifi was fast and we never had any issues with it. The book provided is helpful, as it includes information about the cottage, local area, takeaways, etc. We were welcomed with a bottle of prosecco, which was a lovely touch - thank you! The hot tub was a great addition, we’re missing it already! Some instructions on how to use it may be useful, as it took us a while fiddling with the buttons to get the jets/lights on. We stayed for 4 nights/5 days and found we had to buy a lot of extras ourselves, such as toilet roll (we were provided with 2 rolls), kitchen towel, salt & pepper, oil, washing machine pods, bin bags (we were only provided with the ones in the bin already, no spares), cling film/tin foil. I would suggest those staying for a longer period to pack these with them. Bring your own towels too, as the ones provided are on the smaller size. The check out in/times aren’t good. You can’t check in until 5pm, and must check out by 9am!! Please bare in mind when booking that you will lose a day either side of your holiday, as on your first day you only get the evening, and the last day you only get a an hour or two in the morning. So, despite us booking Mon-Fri, we only got to enjoy 3 days at the cottage, which we were disappointed with.

The property bigger than expected, and was clean enough but felt a bit unloved.

It has bags of potential, but there were a few things that would stop us from retuning; The bathroom tiles and grout needed a good scrub on the floor. The kitchen was well stocked for utilities, however the toaster leaver was broke? Furnishings were sparse and in a lot of cases broken or well worn. There were things missing I would have expected to find like a hair dryer, a bath mat, an internet router, bin bags, plus the usual foil, oil, salt, pepper etc we’ve come to expect not to be present due to lockdown. A door mat for the front door and muddy boots, and a door mat at the back for the hot tub would have been useful to stop us treading mud and water in. The front door needs a blind - it’s very exposed to the neighbouring property and parking spaces which impacts privacy. The hot tub was fine, some sand in it but had read previous reviews and expected this. There was some dark black scuffing marks on the tub which didn’t look great but didn’t impact the usage. I was also a bit surprised one morning when sat in the garden in my pjs and someone just walked through the field into the static van next to the property, I had been under the impression that it was a private location. Besides the niggles with the property, the area was mostly quiet and Nefyn itself was a beautiful place. There are great views from the cottage and a lovely walk via route 41 to Morfa Nefyn over the tops.

The cottage is fitted to a really nice standard.

The underfloor heating was luxurious and the log burner was cosy. Well located for exploring. Garden is enclosed but small and great for letting dogs out safely. Didn't have any contact with owners. Would have been nice to say hello and have a brief welcome although an information sheet and jams were really useful and a nice touch. We left early for two reasons: one cannot be helped but may be something other holidayers should keep in mind when considering this cottage... - We stayed in February and the weather was generally fine in the day but overnight the winds were really strong and woke us up from the early hours. As such, we didn't feel very rested! The cottage is remote and open to the elements. Would love to stay again but only in summer. - The property is advertised as having wifi. The owners appear to have tried to sort this with a wifi booster, however it doesn't work. We booked due to the wifi as we had work commitments that relied on it. As it was not available, this was an issue and 4g is temperamental. Fine if you are not bothered about this but if it is a necessity for accompanying teenagers or people who may have to work remotely, it is an issue.

The cottage was great but let down so badly with the cleanliness.

We had to clean on arrival before starting our break which we shouldn’t have to do. The main living room smelt of dogs/urine and black hairs all over the floors and sofas. We had to empty the hoover as it was so full it wouldn’t suck up which wasn’t pleasant. The sofas smelt and were dirty. The blankets left under the table were dirty and full of dog hairs. The top right grill was thick with grease so when we used it it would smoke and smelt so we couldn’t use it. The dishwasher filter was thick with grease so we had to clean that also. The washing up bowl was greasy so we cleaned that. While hoovering the sofa in the snug room we found a dirty hairy sock behind the cushions. Chocolate bar and empty wrapper found in one of the bedrooms. The en suite fan didn’t work and the mattress springs have gone on one side. We understand it is dog friendly which is great but it needed so much more of a clean especially as it is dog friendly and dog hair everywhere is not nice. Once we cleaned the cottage ourselves it was great. We loved the hot tub and views and the cottage was beautiful just let down by the cleanliness unfortunately
