"We had read the reviews on S14750 so had known about the road which didn't cause us a problem as long as you got you up the hill if on foot quickly. We had also known about the the size of the kitchen, it does really lack any kind of worktop space for a cottage which in theory could sleep 7 adults this is inconvenient. What was incredibly disappointing was the cleanliness, and general decor of the house, it needs some investment. The walls in many rooms were dirty, paint chipped off and it was visible were the paint had tried to be patched up and just looked worse. The shower in particular in the on suite was very slow and the window frames dirty. In my opinion the house needs decluttering I have never seen so many lamps in each room where actually a better bulb in the main light or even a bulb would be better. The sockets in the Bothy were overloaded again with lamps and all this just collects dust and cobwebs and doesn't give you that feeling of space that many want."

"Very helpful staff, and great cottages in a lovely quiet location. The downsides of a country location were that it took a little longer to travel the country roads to other Northumbrian attractions around the coast. Of the cottage itself - a few spiders had taken up residence in two of the shower units despite the otherwise immaculate facilities. Although the adverts describe the swimming pool and games room, the hours of use were a little restrictive in that they were not available after 7pm. We understood the Health and Safety restrictions on using the pool, but it would have been nice to be able to use the games room and/or snooker table in the evening. We would most definitely use the cottages from this owner again - but might chose to stay at their other site at Seahouses"

"We loved our stay at Casa Nostro, the cottage really does have everything.... books, dvd's, board games, children's indoors and outdoors toys and a fully equipped kitchen. There were no issues during our stay. If I had to say anything about the property I would just say the room with the bunk beds is through the living room, kitchen and dining room away from the other bedrooms and has some damp. Also the kitchen although has everything only has one cuboard for you to put your own things. There is so much there you have to leave your food on the side which isn't ideal. There are more glasses than a pub!Overall we enjoyed a fantastic family holiday. With a supermarket and lovely pub within walking distance and all the fabulous attractions of Northumberland within easy reach via car."

"Akeld manor is a lovely house which is in dire need of bringing up to date to accommodate large parties of visitors . There is only one shower ( but many baths )which is not adequate for a family of 15 . You are met with many rules and regulations on arrival that are off-putting and also a hefty surcharge which seems unnecessary . A welcome pack with local produce would have been a nice touch. Some of the rooms are neglected and very bare and the house itself does not have a homely feel . There is no wifi which in this day and age is fast becoming a necessity . The staff are very friendly and the grounds are amazing , the location of the house is very good for exploring Northumberland with most attractions around half an hour away . The pool and gym are an excellent addition ."

"we enjoyed our holiday. For us personally I'd give the cottage an 8/10. As my husband is broad we couldn't make use of the best bed in the cottage, as he couldn't get up the top part of the spiral staircase comfortably, therefore we had to sleep on the other double bed, which was far too low for us being about 4" off the floor. It would also have been better if that bedroom had darker curtains, and also a listing that it is near a road. I couldn't sit on the sofa as it was too low, so spent most evenings on one of the table chairs. Other than that it was lovely, especially seeing all the birds coming to the feeders, we even saw a great spotted woodpecker, and the sun room was a welcome hotspot in the late afternoons."
