Staying in Wiltshire

While you’re in Wiltshire, don’t miss the iconic white horses or the gorgeous gardens at Stourhead. The cathedral in Salisbury is rather magnificent as well. If that’s not enough of a reason to visit there’s boundless areas of countryside to get lost in by foot, bike or horseback with plenty of opportunity for fishing and golf as well. When you need refreshing after a good dose of exploring, head to one of the many delightful tea shops, pubs or restaurants. So whatever you want to do, and who ever you want to go with, Snaptrip has an excellent selection of deals on late availability cottages, apartments and lodges to choose from.

"We loved our stay here. Perfectly located for a quiet and isolated getaway, with all mod cons within easy and close driving distance. The cottage is attached to the landlord's property so checking in was a doddle and the landlord is very friendly and respectful of privacy. WiFi isn't the quickest and EE reception pretty bad but this was of no bother to us. The living room is a nice size and well decorated, the TV has digital free view and there is also a dvd player and some movies. The leather sofa is comfortable and supportive. The kitchen is of a good size, with all utensils, dishes and cutlery provided. The fridge is a decent sized small unit with a small freezer compartment at the top. There is a breakfast table and chairs here also but we didn't use those. The bedroom is also a decent size, with a nice comfy bed and an ensuite shower and toilet. All well looked after and nicely decorated.Outside on the side of the property there is a small garden with a table and seating. This is fenced off and privacy is good, a lovely place to sit on starry nights and enjoy the view.Overall I would highly recommend this cottage. We didn't do a lot of exploring as we know the area but there are a large number of attractions and things to do nearby. For a quiet getaway this place is perfect. Thanks again for a lovely stay!"

"Our hosts greeted us with gifts of milk and eggs and an Easter gift of chocolate. This apartment is spacious, warm and beautifully equipped. It has formerly been lived in by a family member and everything from kitchen to king_sized bed has been chosen to the highest specification and comfort. The space allocation is extremely generous and we ate our meals in a conservatory with views of a large, well-kept garden. A yellow camlia was in flower. When dogs were walked or white geese out and about, we kept the door shut but it was all very lovely to watch. The only hitch was when the he gas supply which supplies heating and water turned off and had to be re-started at the unit outside the kitchen window. David, our host, did this and was a great source of local information throughout the holiday. We visited Salisbury St Thomas for the doom painting, Salisbury cathedral and Chapter house for the carvings and Magna Carter, Winchester, Avebury stone circles and Stonehenge. All were in striking distance. There is a fully supplied local store which stocks fresh rolls and croissants each morning and papers. We also used The Park and Ride for Salisbury which has a Aldi next door. There is still plenty to see and we will try to book he same accommodation."

"We had intended to have our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren with us but they couldn't come. It was just as well as the arrangement of the bedrooms would have been difficult. There was a twin room which had access through one of the single rooms, not good when you have friends staying with you. There no mention of this in the details. Although the property could accommodate 8 people there was a two slice toaster! One of the drawers in the kitchen was inaccessible, because the cooker was in the way. The general cleanliness was poor, cooker really dirty and cobwebs and spiders everywhere. The grass at the rear of the property has only recently been cut and the path was covered in cuttings, so had to sweep up to stop bringing it into the house. There were very few power points upstairs, and no mirrors on the walls, not easy to dry hair! There was no welcome pack, not even a pint of milk, and the nearest shop 10 minutes away, we were glad to only stay for a weekend."

"This was our second visit to this cottage because with over 40 years of self-catering holidays we have never come across anywhere as good as this. The welcome is warm and the owners very considerate. They are quick to make sure you have everything you need for your stay and the 'welcome pack' is very generous.Although the holiday let is attached to their house, you are not aware of their living quarters, while the dogs and geese provide additional entertainment in their very large garden. The outlook is beautiful and you are not aware of their neighbours. Its location in a quiet village is superb with a single drive to the gates of the property. At the end of the drive is the village shop while just down the road is the Lord Nelson pub.You are free to spend your holiday as you wish and the owners are keen to discuss where you went and what was there of special interest."

"Lovely clean comfortable cottage. Well equipped. Lovely location and great walks for us and the dog straight from the cottage and in the near by nature reserve. No mobile signal which was great. Wifi was intermittent at times but caused no inconvenience. Great to have a large tv with Sky as in some other places we have stayed the tv is small with freeview only. Shop/PO is too far away to walk (even though we did once), however there is a Tesco Extra/Lidl about 15 minutes drive. The garden is accessible by going across the drive which meant being unable to let the dog out alone as he tended to wander off along the lane. Again no big inconvenience, but something I did not notice when booking. The owner was on hand if we needed anything and greeted us to explain some basic stuff such as recycling/tv etc. Would consider again in the future."
