While you’re in Wiltshire, don’t miss the iconic white horses or the gorgeous gardens at Stourhead. The cathedral in Salisbury is rather magnificent as well. If that’s not enough of a reason to visit there’s boundless areas of countryside to get lost in by foot, bike or horseback with plenty of opportunity for fishing and golf as well. When you need refreshing after a good dose of exploring, head to one of the many delightful tea shops, pubs or restaurants. So whatever you want to do, and who ever you want to go with, Snaptrip has an excellent selection of deals on late availability cottages, apartments and lodges to choose from.

"We were in England from NZ for a family reunion and stayed at the cottage for 3 weeks. We had contact with the owner prior to booking. During our stay, we made a couple of requests which the owner agreed to. Whilst we enjoyed staying at the cottage and the cottage served our purpose well, there were a couple of features about the cottage that we didn't like: the radiator in the main bedroom didn't work; we had no control over the heating; there was a consistent smell of kerosene from the boiler; the outdoor table and chairs were removed by the owner without our knowledge; the cottage was at the back of the owners property with a shared driveway which made any of our activities visible to the owner so less private than we imagined. What marred our stay was the attitude and rudeness of the owner at the end. We made a mistake with the exit time thinking we had to be out of the cottage at 11 a.m. At 10 past 10 Mrs Whitmore was clearly angry that we had not abided by the rules and vacated the property by 10 a.m. She had a time frame for cleaning the cottage and we were impacting on this. We advised her that we had only to pack suitcases and shower. She rudely told us to forget the showers, pack up quickly "and remove yourselves." We did as she asked. On exiting the property, we informed her we thought her rudeness was unacceptable - we had never been treated so badly. She told us that "I have bent over backwards accommodating you people" giving an example of one request we made (which she agreed to.) We were unaware during our 3 week stay of breaking any rules. We will never consider staying at this cottage again because of this experience with Mrs Whitmore."

"We loved our stay here. Perfectly located for a quiet and isolated getaway, with all mod cons within easy and close driving distance. The cottage is attached to the landlord's property so checking in was a doddle and the landlord is very friendly and respectful of privacy. WiFi isn't the quickest and EE reception pretty bad but this was of no bother to us. The living room is a nice size and well decorated, the TV has digital free view and there is also a dvd player and some movies. The leather sofa is comfortable and supportive. The kitchen is of a good size, with all utensils, dishes and cutlery provided. The fridge is a decent sized small unit with a small freezer compartment at the top. There is a breakfast table and chairs here also but we didn't use those. The bedroom is also a decent size, with a nice comfy bed and an ensuite shower and toilet. All well looked after and nicely decorated.Outside on the side of the property there is a small garden with a table and seating. This is fenced off and privacy is good, a lovely place to sit on starry nights and enjoy the view.Overall I would highly recommend this cottage. We didn't do a lot of exploring as we know the area but there are a large number of attractions and things to do nearby. For a quiet getaway this place is perfect. Thanks again for a lovely stay!"

"A very secluded spot. The quiet was wonderful. Footpaths over fields start just outside cottage. Fantastic for the dog. Local pub (The Angel) very welcoming and helpful. Long walk to Cotswolds Water Park, through fields, woodlands and quiet lanes. Issue regarding restrictions for dog in the cottage. It is very difficult to restrict access when there are no doors in the building. Perhaps some sort of "child safety" gate could be provided to ensure the dog stays put. I question whether this cottage is suitable for the pet restriction posted on the door. Most pet owners like to relax in the lounge with their animals... not having to fence them in downstairs. Covers on chairs would probably resolve this issue, as there are no other potential problems with pet access (eg no carpets on floor) to all areas except the bedroom, and a "gate" would resolve that. Beautiful cottage, quiet location, wonderful walks... we would definitely come back."

"I stayed at S13703 for 4 nights with my 2 boys aged 7. It is in a beautiful location with wonderful views of the countryside. Although it didn't have a garden as such, the field behind the cottage was available to use and a great space for my boys to run around in. The two horses stabled next to the cottage, seen grazing in the adjacent field, were an added bonus for us all. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Our host was most welcoming and available on site should I have needed any assistance. The only difficulty I had was in locating the cottage on the day of our arrival. As it was positioned at the end of a long drive behind the owners' home, there wasn't any sign of the cottage at the roadside which resembled the one advertised. Once found it proved to be a wonderful find and I would certainly have no hesitation in booking again."

"I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 night stay at S25410 cottage with my 2 dogs. Absolutely beautiful location, minutes from the New Forest, and a good base for exploring the local area and tourist attractions. All usual household goods were provided, along with complementary tea/coffee/milk sachets to get you going. Supermarket just across the road which was great for getting supplies in. The caretaker was based in the adjoining cottage, an extremely pleasant and friendly man who settles you into the cottage, then leaves you to your privacy. Beautiful 16th Century cottage with original fixtures (beams etc) including a gorgeous multi beamed ceiling in the bedroom upstairs, and with comprehensive history given in the visitor folder. I would definitely stay here again, should the opportunity arise 8o)"
