"I stayed at Kestrel Cottage with my 96 year old mother in law. I had chosen the property for its wetroom, bedrooms all on one level and it's proximity to Durham. The cottage far exceeded all my expectations. It is much bigger than the photographs suggest, bathrooms, hallways and living area are very spacious. Everything is very new, tasteful and not worn out or shabby. The beds are really comfortable and the linen is good quality. The main living room is south facing so it's light, and bright. The views from the two full length windows are stunning, open fields and countryside. We were visited every morning by two friendly goats at the fence by the patio. Most afternoons we watched parachuters descending to an area about a half a mile away. All most entertaining. We could park at the door which was very helpful as my mother in law couldn't walk too far. In the wetroom there are handles to aid the not so steady. The owner kindly brought us a proper shower seat too, which was so useful.Even though very early in the year we found a lot to do in the area. Durham is nearby, we went several times. I highly recommend the Oriental Museum, we visited the botanical garden, cathedral and castle. The Hartlepool maritime museum was excellent. We went to Gateshead quay. Just a couple of miles away we went to the big outlet shopping centre and the coastal towns and coast road are on the doorstep. All this to do, and then at the end of a busy day out the cottage was a relaxing, warm and welcoming home to come back to.Jean the owner was friendly and helpful, she lives nearby but wasn't intrusive at all. The welcome pack was extremely generous, including eggs, bread, milk. Kestrel Cottage was an excellent choice for our holiday and we were delighted with everything we found there."

"Whilst the cottage was well equipt the two single beds were a little uncomfortable. On his occassion the owners were not on top if things. The local shop sold very little and the local pub was not open when we were wanting to eat. The walk into bishop Auckland town is at least 35 mins. The locality of the cottage is on the peripheral of a council estate and the river Gaunless at the bottom of the garden is not pretty at all it is dirty, full of rubbish & overgrown + there is no path to walk along with your dog, so there is no point in the gate at the bottom of the garden. However if the garden is tended a bit better (growth cut back a bit ) the various ground cover of gravel, decking, flagging could be very pretty. The 4th & 5th levels flagged are a lovely suntrap to sit out on even late evening. There are 2 sets of seating a table & 4 chairs + 2 benches. The neighbours were freindly & helpful. Dog owners beware that the gates between each premise finish at Appleby cottage if that gate is left open as we found several times your dog can get on the road. There were lots of extras provided which you don't need to take but are not told about such as tissues, lots of toilet rolls, kitchen roll. Shower gel, shampoo, hand wash & hand soap aswel as the usual welcome pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread and eggs."

"The Blades is a lovely property which has a beautiful large garden which is perfect for little ones and adults alike! quiet and peaceful surroundings, a well stocked kitchen and utility area, games supplied, Netflix was a hit with my girls, very spacious and comfy rooms. we had a wonderful stay with everything close by and even managed to go to the beach everyday due to the fantastic weather. The family was very comfortable and impressed with the location and comfort of the property and the owner was very helpful with a query we had. there was a good folder with nearby takeaways and leaflets for local attractions and places of interest. The only thing we were a little confused with was the bin system, what we could and could not put in the bins, waste food, recycling etc. as every council is different a little guide may be an idea for those that are conscious of recycling! this is only a minor feedback suggestionBeautiful cottage and would like to return for another holiday in the future."

"We have just stayed at laburnum cottage for 10 days and could quite happily have extended our holiday. The kitchen, although small, is well kitted out including a washing machine and full sized fridge freezer plus all utensils. The bed was super comfy, plus bedroom had full length mirror and a good amount of hangers in the wardrobe, which is fab. The lounge was quite cosy with lots of lovely finishing touches and a nice little conservatory all gave a homely feel. Our only gripe was the parking! Although it states that there is designated parking for the cottage in the description, this is mostly taken up by customers going to the pub right opposite, or customers parking right outside the kitchen window, which felt quite intrusive. But we would definitely stay here again, as this is not a major issue, but I feel it should be mentioned. As I say, we would absolutely stay at laburnum cottage again and definitely recommend it"

"Kestral Cottage, as well as the other two cottages are suitable for disabled users and is a great central position to explore many towns and attractions in the North East. The location is in a quite, pleasant, secure area, and with this you really need a car to get to places. The cottage was fully equip with everything you would need, including a lovely arrival basket ( eggs, bread, butter, milk, jam, coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, and refreshing bottle for those who indulge ) The owners Jean and Amy were very helpful and if you needed anything they would try to sort it for you (although we couldn't think what else would be needed for these cottages.)A lovely time was had and would recommend to everyone.Always keep you camera handy while resting on the patio as curlew and chicks nesting or the odd owl may be spotted."
