"I was under the impression that the house was surrounded by its own grounds and was disappointed that all the garden was to the front and that there were houses close by and a road to the rear; the lake was a duck pond and the grounds were very unkempt; the lack of sun loungers was disappointing. I think the description of the grounds should be much more honest. Although the house is characterful it is very run down and most of the furniture is uncomfortable and past its best, although the bed my husband and I slept in was fine some of the other beds were well below par. The most comfortable furniture is in the upstairs lounge, whereas it would be better downstairs as that’s where we spent most of our time in the house, and wouldn’t have used the upstairs room had it not been for the World Cup on tv. The decor, once one gets past the initial impactfulness, is not very welcoming and many of the artefacts are ugly - far too much emphasis on army paraphernalia - giving the house a hostile, museum-like feel (especially the modern army photos in the downstairs w.c. - very much out of place, I thought, in a holiday rental. However, all this was reflected in the cost and so it seems wrong to complain, but after a week I was pleased to leave as I found the house oppressive and shabby and none too clean. The toilet in one of the en-suites had a towel rolled up behind it to, we think, prevent leaks - unhygienic we thought. The showers were poor, too."

"This was a winner for us ( family of 5 with teenagers and 9 year old) ..the hosts were very kind and gracious despite it being World Cup final day..our arrival was just in time to keep everybody happy. The pool is super, private and such a bonus. The site is out of town , alongside other properties but almost rural...it felt very private. House itself is one of the best equipped we have stayed in ( except, and they know I will say this...an ice box or freezer compartment would have been very good, especially for self catering) However, the ice box is a very small thing...the rest of the property is A1 . Supermarkets are within 2 km . L' orient is no more than 25 mins away . Carnac and the standing stones have to be seen. The property is about 25 -45 mins from most places you may wish to visit , inland and at the coast. But it is a very well priced gem, and I know as I write this I decrease my chances of booking it again...as I would thoroughly recommend it to any similar family...we had such good weather...but it is v well equipped for not so good. Thank you owners for a very decent, well equipped, competitively price property ( get an ice box!)"

"My wife and I were as new to grandparenthood as our children were to being parents - 10 of us came, including 9-month-old twins and a 9-week-old baby. We all had reasons for needing a good break - and we each fulfilled the need. We made friends in the small town of Hesdin, including a restaurant proprietor who cooked us and delivered a wonderful set of meals. We relaxed in the grounds of the lovely chateau, we travelled to the seaside and ate well, and we picnicked and walked in local forests. We cooked some splendid meals with ingredients bought from a great market. We stayed up too late watching DVDs supplied for our use, but still managed the early morning rise and walk (a group run, even) to the boulangerie for breads, buttery croissants and great pastries."

"Not what we expect of a holiday home. Old bedding, paper thin pillows, uncomfortable beds old quits stained, furnished like everything had been bought from a charity shop. Lots of tat, broken cups, old mismatch drinking glasses, and cutlery, half opened bags of crisps left in cupboard, medication left in fridge, van parked on drive, strange oddments of furniture in bedrooms, that take up space, wardrobes with wooden curtain poles and curtains instead of cupboard doors just pieced together. Spoilt our second week of holiday.Plus signs - electric shutters on windows. That is all."

"A fabulous spacious house full of character with lovely grounds and a short walk to the town with several good restaurants. The downside is that it is a large old house with no heating. We visited in mid Sept and whilst weather was normal for the time of year the house was cold and jumpers indoors was the norm. there was one gas heater offered (you have to get your own canister) but that would have little effect in my opinion. There are two large open fireplaces which we were told we couldn't use but it really needed them to warm the core of the house."
