"We chose this cottage over others because it had internet: we have a 10 year old son who has a daily ration and we also needed to use it for information about the local area etc. However, the owners had just changed provider and needless to say it didn't work. The cottage info handbook had not been updated and so began a text to owners/email to service providers/visit to the cottage by the owners to try and put it right. However, it didn't get fixed, so we wasted lots of time and although the owners were apologetic and very nice they never offered us any token of compensation. Our son was disappointed and we were inconvenienced.Another disappointment was the old 'tube in the back' style tv, whose screen flickered and which was simply uncomfortable to watch, so we didn't. The cottage appeared plush on arrival but staying there for a few days it felt like the cottage had been left to go tired - it looks plush n posh so it'll be alright..that'll do.The windows in the master bedroom sounded like a set of bagbipes in the wind - and it was very windy, the plug mechanism in the bathroom sink didn't work so you had to empty out using fingers, there were posh plates etc in the kitchen but no foil, cling film or kitchen roll provided, both twin beds in the childrens' room were uncomfortable because you could feel the springs through the mattresses and even some of the pillows were lumpy! If the owners ever spent a night/morning there, it was a long time ago. We just felt like a money making opportunity on the side, which began with the owner turning up at the front door saying, 'Have you got firewood, I don't know if there's firewood, have they left firewood, let me know if you need any..?' There were no comments in the visitor's book since October 2017 - maybe people, like us, didn't want to express their disappointment that way. However, we must say that the heating was always on and the hot water was constant and abundant."

"I have to report that upon arrival, we found the property overheated - temperature around 25 degrees. Despite instructions not to touch heating controls, I had to change the individual control (in each room) back to a sensible temperature of around 18-19 deg and open doors/windows. Because it is underfloor heating, this takes a long time, according to the plumber who arrived to sort out another problem, around 2-3 days. Therefore for the first two nights, sleeping was difficult. One of the bedrooms only has a patio door which couldn't be left open for air......The toilet in the main bathroom constantly refilled so on day 3 the plumber arrived to fix. The wi-fi is provided via dongle. Unfortunately the owner has been using the wrong network (Three) and therefore it was unusable. I have mobiles on all networks and was able to prove a decent signal on EE, so the owner kindly purchased a new dongle on this network and thereafter wi-fi was satisfactory. Another negative is that the boiler is located outside, the other side of the main en-suite bedroom. My mother was woken on numerous occasions by this switching on and off during the night, apparently to maintain the water temperature. Eventually she moved to the twin room. Us ladies need a mirror and adjacent socket to do our hair - only the twin bedroom provided this facility. There was no dressing table in the other rooms so was obliged to use the shelf in the main bathroom for this purpose. The living/dining/kitchen area is a very pleasant room and the lodge's best feature. Water pressure at the lodge is excellent as were the showers/bath. The wood in which the property is situated is on a private estate south of the village of Chirnside. It is a very peaceful location, only farm vehicles can be heard. Because it is shaded by trees, there isn't much possibility of sun bathing here - the other lodge is the better option for this activity."

"A last minute booking which was so much more than we were expecting. Such good value for money. Lovely surprise of goodies when we arrived.. Very comfortable and well furnished. Included a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and wifi and lots of other useful things you wouldn't normally get in a rented cottage. Very near the beach and harbour. All amenities nearby, lots of nice walks and so much to see and enjoy. Car parking for one car and is a bit tight. The only downside was there was no private outside area and looking at Google Earth beforehand we thought the back was overlooking the sea when in fact it backs onto another building so there are no views at all. Still we made a cuppa and in a dozen paces we were at the beach enjoying the sea air and the vista."

"We spent a lovely Easter week in Oak Lodge - gorgeous surroundings; excellent standard of accommodation and the weather was very kind to us. Very kind owner who seems to have thought of everything necessary to make her holiday home very comfortable and welcoming, including coffee (real), tea, bread, milk and biccies already there for our arrival. The only downside we found was that the under floor heating system was a little too warm for us. We'd definitely stay here again - its in a small but very friendly village which is central for days out to lots of different places (seaside; countryside; castles; Holy Island) - highly recommended accommodation. Thank you."

"The main thing we were unhappy about was the comfort of the single beds. They are iron framed and look lovely but creak every-time you move which did not result in a good nights sleep. The bedding on these beds was too big for the beds and too hot. Some of the duvets were stained as were the pillow cases. Save for those comments it is a wonderful property. Well equipped in the kitchen. Stylishly decorated and lovely bathrooms. We would stay again but the single beds might have to be changed before we do this."
