Although the waters are cold, Thurso is a big deal in the surfing world. Surfing championships are held here, thanks to good waves all year round. If surfing isn’t your thing you can also find impressive reefs and lovely beaches. Understandably plenty of visitors may wish to stay on dry land, and there is plenty to see and do; from bracing coastal walks or exploring some of the stunning surrounding countryside to seeking out the traditional shops and delicious cafes. A holiday in Thurso offers a relaxing break.

"Very quiet and very remote location which was exactly what we wanted. Caithness is a familiar area to us but we did need to research google satellite and make a call beforehand to Liz to ascertain exactly the right farm to visit. Liz and her family were very welcoming and helpful and always on hand if needed - not that we did. S24376 was a lot bigger inside than it looked from the outside. Very well equipped with everything we needed. The internet and mobile signal is sporadic but as we do not live our lives around it, we didn't miss it. We could not ask for a better location and a more relaxing stay for a week. We were very sorry indeed to have to leave. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone visiting the surrounding area. Thanks to Liz and her family for a very memorable stay. Hope to see you all again in the future."

"S24372 cottage is the most comprehensively equipped cottage we have ever stayed in.The extra touches are fantastic as in a bottle of wine, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits all unexpected but very welcoming. S24372 has all the cooking and cleaning equipment you could possibly need and more it is very clean (spotless) and tidy and a pleasure to stay there.I have no hesitation in recommending for winds to anyone and would gladly stay there again. The dining area is wonderful with great views over the water if you could arrange for the odd whale or pod of dolphins to put in an appearance that would be the cherry on the cake but maybe next time!!!Kind regardsJohn & julie"

"This part of the world is not where you get 40 degrees of sun however the weather was very good and we always managed to get out and about. The peace and quiet was a real bonus and I felt fully refreshed on my return to city life. The cottage is situated in a lovely little village and the views from the small conservatory look out over open sea to the islands of Orkney. It was extremely well fitted out with everything you could need available. The couple who own it met us and gave us a full tour, ensuring we felt comfortable with all the various appliances etc. A full folder of information was also there, with a lovely bottle of wine! July 2009."

"Large detached bungalow but very dated and old fashioned. Kitchen and bathroom at least 30 years old. Even books on shelves from 70s and 80s. Whole place needs investing in, decorating and updating. Black out curtains or blinds needed in bedroom as very bright as soon as sun starts to come up.On positive side, bed very comfortable so slept well and bedding good. Washing machine and dishwasher handy. Garden nice, lots of birds to watch and small binoculars provided. Area very quiet so very peaceful. Thurso friendly with good access to north coast. Would be excellent accommodation if modernised."

"This is a lovely spacious well equipped bungalow. It is centrally located for all local amenities with a Tesco at the end of the road. There is also a swimming pool within walking distance. I walked along the river with my dog every day and the local dog walkers were all friendly. There is lots of information about things to see and do within the bungalow to help you explore the area. As usual Scotland didn't let us down with 4 seasons in one day rain ,hail, sunshine and snow. But we are always prepared for every eventuality. We had a fabulous week and would definitely recommend this cottage."
