Staying in Thirsk

Thirsk is only a short distance from the North York Moors National Park if you want to use this as a base to explore the great outdoors. Several walks can also be enjoyed in and around the town. The market square is a bustling hub of the town, with independent shops and market, and is a lovely place to spend the afternoon. No matter what draws you to Thirsk, it is a pleasant place to spend a short break.

"We had a fantastic week at S98130 in Maunby, from the warm welcome from James, the visits to local places of interest, a day out in York (only 20 minutes on the train from Northallerton) and evenings on the tennis court, right through to leaving on the last day and forgetting a mandolin! (Luckily, James found it quickly and delivered it safely to a mutual friend). S98130 is ideal for a large family holiday (we had 5 adults, 2 kids and a cat) or a group of friends. The tennis court, extensive grounds and games (including pool, table football and board games) as well as the piano meant we were never stuck for anything to do, and the welcoming local pub is only 5 minutes walk away and serves great food. James was always available if help or advice is needed. We will certainly be back!"

"The cottage is very well set out and is in a very quiet location, so great for a getaway, but not so great if you haven't got a car as there's not much in the village itself. We find it ideal for our get togethers (old college pals) as we can just sit and chat. Thirsk is a lovely, nearby market town and well worth a visit. It's the second time we've stayed and we would stay again. Mrs Horner is a lovely person who will always be flexible on the leaving time if no-one else is coming to the cottage and always leaves a very nice 'welcome pack' of the essentials. Our only slightly negative comment would be a lack of some serving dishes in the kitchen and the couches are a bit past their best - if 2 of you are sat on them, you tend to both slide into the middle!"

"We stayed in Kitchen Box which was a lovely equipped barn conversion providing ample space for the two of us. There was a very friendly cat and dog on the farm and it was unusual to be able to see such a variety of animals such as Alpacas, horses, sheep, pigs & chickens and get up close to them. We actually witnessed one of the pigs giving birth to 8 piglets. The farm owners were helpful and friendly and did not mind you getting close to the animals. We found it a good location for walking either for getting to the coast or walking from the farm, we actually made our own circular walk from the cottage to see the White horse and Sutton Bank with some great pub stops on the way."

"Just a brilliant stay. very well equipped and clean. Ann made us welcome and was very friendly. We had a bit of trouble getting a stable wi fi connection in the cottage but she was more than happy to allow us into her home to access it better. Short walk to pub was excellent. plent of room to park at the front of the property. easy to get arouns from Carlton Miniiott. Comfy beds. everything we needed. Ann supplied us with milk , cake and biscuits. super garden to sit/stroll in though we had our own table and chairs at the side of the cottage. Would love to come back."

"Wow. What a lovely home. Lovely, very old house and so spacious. Huge kitchen with a working AGA, hub of the house. It is a country home with lovely gardens. It is only a short walk to the village pub which was amazingly friendly. Very good food if you can drag yourself away from the AgA! If you have children then you will never hear the words ‘I’m bored’. I would certainly go back there anytime. We had a lovely surprise birthday party for my old Dad, all the food cooked on the AgA. Thank you to the owners for keeping the house a home from home."
