What our customers are saying about our Holiday Cottages With Swimming Pools In North Tawton To Rent.

Nigel - verified booking

"Overall we thought the cottage was good for a party of our size, 4 adults, but would be a bit on the small size for any more. The kitchen was very small & only suitable for 1 person to use at a time. The lounge area with dining table was just adequate but we were constantly having to move the dining chairs around just to get past to the lounge area etc, which proved to be a bit annoying. With 2 more adults, or children, this would be even more difficult. The TV was positioned on a high room wide mantel shelf over the electric room heater. At this height it was difficult to view for anyone sitting on the sofas close to the end wall. The best part were the bedrooms, very large & comfortable & well furnished with very large built-in clothes storage/wardrobes. Bathrooms are small but adequate. The showers were just ok but the water pressure was erratic, running hot & cold as other bathrooms & the kitchen taps were being used.Externally the front enclosed garden area was very good, especially for us with our 3 dogs. Which was the main reason for choosing this cottage. However we did have a problem here on the first night as the lawn had been roughly mown but with the grass clippings left on the lawn. This very quickly became a problem as our dogs, & us, as we cleaned up after them, were walking the grass clippings into the lounge which meant we were constantly having to sweep them up to try to prevent them being walked upstairs into the bedrooms & bathrooms. The next morning we knocked on the owners door to ask if these clippings could be raked up, I even said I would rake them myself if a rake could be provided. I spoke to a young girl who said her mother was still in bed. All that happened was a dustpan & brush, I had also asked for, was left outside the front door but the request itself was totally ignored. We had to endure this problem for the full weekend, there was nobody around to ask on both days. On the Monday we asked the owner again & were somewhat surprised at his manner as all he gave us were a list of his problems as to how busy he was & how his mower box needed welding. He then rather reluctantly said he would get his blower out to remove the clippings, which he did very roughly, leaving them piled against the side fence. This issue came very close to spoiling our whole week. In the same vein we also had to ask for the Games Room, as advertised as being available, to be open as it was full of old furniture & un-useable. The Games Room itself is very poor consisting of a dartboard & a very old, very dirty & rickity Pool table which I had to brush the dust & debris off to use. If the Pool table was in use the dartboard was too close to be safely used. On the Wednesday some new balls & cues suddenly appeared which did not help as the table was so warped it was impossible to have a proper game. I think it pushes the boundary to describe this wooden hut as a "Games Room".Although the swimming pool was advertised as being available & the weather was nice & sunny, we did not think it wise to asked for the pool cover to be removed. In summary, the Pros' are a good location, nice bedrooms & adequate facilities, whereas the Con's are a poor unprofessional attitude from the owners, not the "can do" attitude that successful businesses need to grow & thrive. Also the value for money is also poor, we paid more for this cottage in the low season as we have paid on the previous two years for high season. A work in progress is, I hope, a true description for this business."

"Warm, cosy, lashings of hot water, lodge in very good order and well appointed. Having use of the hotel’s facilities but being self-contained and private in the lodge was the perfect balance for us. We loved the beautiful grounds and hired bikes, played golf and used all the practice facilities, swam, enjoyed beauty treatments, watched the falconry display, fed the baby deer and there was so much to do we never left the site all week only to top up with a few supplies. A truly brilliant week and great value for money. Thank you Helpful Holidays and Bovey Castle. However, there were a lot of small things that weren't quite right. Individually they weren't a big deal, but collectively they were irritating and reduced the quality of our experience. One thing (admittedly subjective) is that we found the décor to be dated and a bit shabby - lots of damaged veneer on the wood furniture, for example. It didn't feel fresh, bright and cosy, as I would want a holiday home to be. Also, there was no DVD player and it was a shame that no games or books were provided - in a family-friendly lodge you expect a few, I think (although we had brought our own). The rest of our issues were in the kitchen, and they were just small things that were - cumulatively - annoying: no sharp knife; no pepper mill; only one wooden spoon; kitchen tap would not run cold water; no washing up bowl; no draining rack; no kitchen rubbish bin (I know we should aim to recycle as much as possible - and we did - but there is bound to be some rubbish); a broken cupboard (the pull-out base level unit); leaky old washing up gloves; no long-handled broom for sweeping the kitchen floor; no normal sized dessert spoons (just large serving spoons); no ordinary teabags provided (just green, camomile and earl grey - we brought our own tea and coffee, but would expect a few to be provided as a start). For reference, our point of comparison was a holiday we took last summer through Beach Retreats at The Village, Watergate Bay, where there was nothing to fault in either the décor or the facilities."

"The owners where lovely and a cream tea with snacks was provided which was a lovely touch. The cottage had the best equipped kitchen we have ever stayed in, you could even bake cakes if you wanted too! Downstairs was modern with laminate floors which was great with the dog. Upstairs however felt like a chalet with no underlay under the carpets. The bedrooms had been decorated very tastefully but the children's mattresses where very uncomfortable as they commented about them which normally they would not do. The main problem for us and why we would not return was that my husband spent the whole week sneezing and it appears he may be allergic to the previous dogs that have stayed there ( we have a Cockerpoo) so has not suffered before. This problem was exacerbated at night as each bedroom has a patio complete with patio doors. This meant that there wasn't any Windows to open and as the cottage backed onto a lane, we did not feel it was safe to leave the patio door ajar. If I was to offer any suggestions for improvement then it would be to address the ventilation in the bedrooms, replace the mattress in the twin room and upgrade the bathroom as it was below standard to the rest of the house. On a positive note the grounds where lovely and the owners two dogs where so friendly as was the lovely gentleman who scooted around doing jobs in his mobility scooter!"

"4 as they said being cleaned. We eventually got in after 4 and itvwas so filthy we could not unpack they addmitted that they had not cleaned and sent a team to clean we eventually got in at 530 but still many things were missing or unclean they moved us the next day but this meant we missed playing golf as we had to wait till 4 the next day to get in the replacement. When we move wee still had items missing and no dog bed orcwater bowl. This is just the tip of yhe issues I welcome your commentsWrong house no, didn't send e-mail with info when they should have,I was told I would have to pay a house bond then they said no u don't have to the day before we were leaving. I took out the extra insurance as it was only £10 but the place had loose sockets, marks on walls, wall paper torn off in the down stairs toilet which really looked bad, I don't think that was great but we had a lovely time and would go back. Doors to outside balcony didn't lock very well, no oven gloves only tea towels which just about worked"
