"This was booked through Sykes Cottages as the lodge is privately owned. On arrival the lodge was freezing cold, the heating had not been on for days and it would have been nice and welcoming, to arrive to a warm lodge especially this time of year. The lodge did not appear to be very clean. The basics were fine; clean bedding, clean toilet and shower, and main floor areas ok. We moved the coffee table to make more space for our little baby and noticed the rug was quite stained and the part of the rug under the coffee table had not been hoovered for a while! We attempted to hoover ourselves but the hoover was pretty useless. The bathroom door handle was broken and we reported this 2 days after our arrival, and it was finally repaired the day before we went home. There wasn’t much storage in the kitchen as the cupboards were all full of kitchen equipment (not sure it was all necessary!) so we stored stuff on top of the kitchen cupboards only to discover it was thick of dust and very greasy. We noticed that the extractor fan wasn’t even connected to anything. Skirting boards were grubby especially near kitchen bin, so we cleaned this ourselves. (Who wants to clean while they are on holiday?!) There was lots of dirt and old sweets etc under both sofas. The shower screen leaked everytime you used the shower and the grout/sealant was mouldy in places. We found a hairball on top of bathroom cabinet and hairs/dust behind bathroom door. We found food smears on inside of curtains in living room, and inside of windows were covered in fingerprints. Decking area could do with a jet wash after the summer. We reported these issues to Sykes Cottages when informing them of the broken door handle. The cleaning team did visit the following day and cleaned the floors, removed hairs from behind door and left fresh towels but did not action the other issues. However, it did make us feel a little more comfortable about staying there the rest of our holiday. We had an ok holiday, the site is nice, clubhouse is canny, and the site is in a great location. However, this lodge needs a deep clean and a bit of TLC asap! Hopefully no one else will feel the way we felt while staying there, or have to do their own cleaning whilst on holiday, and that the owners of this lodge have dealt with all the issues we informed them of! Lastly, the third bedroom is quite small, with no cupboard space and is definetly a bedroom for children. I don’t think the lodge is really suitable for 6 adults."

"We stayed at this property from 18th - 25th July 2015 and paid over 2k for the week. We had a number of issues with the property which we feel should be highlighted for any future holiday makers: 1) The property was not up to the usual standards that we have come to expect from properties hired through Cottages-4-u. The rooms smelt strongly of cigarette smoke (especially the TV room). There were cobwebs everywhere and little piles of animal fur that had not been cleaned. The kitchen utensils (plates, cutlery and other kitchen tools) were of a poor standard/quality (e.g. we were unable to find a tin-opener so the housekeeper had to purchase one for us). The door handles kept falling off the kitchen cabinets. The light above the vanity sink failed while we were there and could not be replaced. The lights in the main room were difficult to turn on and so we ended up not using it at all. 2) The pipework leading to the taps in the vanity sink leaked causing the carpets to flood in one of the double-bedrooms. We ended up having to contact the owner in Tenerife to call in an emergency plumber. The plumbers successfully dried out the carpets and fixed the leak. However, this meant coping with wet carpets for 2 days. 3) The sliding door in one of the bedrooms was broken by one of the previous holiday-makers. So, we ended up having a carpenter come twice to fix the locks. They left wood shavings all over the floor. 4) We were misled by Wyndhams into believing that Netflix and Sky films were available (without an extra subscription). It turns out, these are available at the property - but only with an extra payment. 5) The stairway up and down from the ground floor to the bedrooms was very narrow and steep - probably not manageable by less able individuals. 6) The sauna was very small and possibly unsafe with an exposed bar heater (no protective grille). We do not think the property is worth the money that we spent. We did not ask for a refund but simply wish to ensure that other holidaymakers are not over-charged and are made aware of some of the shortcomings of this property in advance."

"S24401 is a nice place, however I do not think that it warrants the money that we paid. I had read the previous reviews left and thought that people were just being picky, however I have to advise anyone thinking of booking that there really is an indescribable smell that permeates the whole of the downstairs but especially the television room, (I say television room but there was actually no access to any tv channels and my family could only watch films, I couldn't even go in there the smell was so horrible.) There were plug in air fresheners everywhere which were also vile, and I spent the first hour finding them and turning them off, but the smell seems to be impregnated in the carpets/ furniture because it didn't leave. There are also huge pictures of a little girl in every room in the house which were very odd and made one feel quite uncomfortable, like something out of a horror film!Jim the reliable caretaker went away Tuesday morning and had not returned by Thursday lunchtime when we had to leave unexpectedly due to a bereavement, we left him a note, which was more than he had done for us! The light bulb in the main bedroom's bathroom had blown and therefore we had 2 nights in the dark, this was quite aside from the weird arrangement of turning the main light switch on for the bedroom lights to work from behind the bed!The kitchen was also a mine field, there were loads of empty cupboards, sparse utensils for actually cooking, no colander, a few saucepans, there was no order to anything it was bizarre. Most bizarre being the table in the kitchen with 4 chairs round it, when the house is advertised as being for 6 people! The pool was cold, and the floor tiles round the edge are broken! S24401 looked good on paper but did not live up to expectations, I have stayed in much better places for half the price and I would neither go back or recommend it to anyone I know."

"the house design and furniture were beautiful, the let down was the totally under equipped kitchen, a so called self catering holiday home, that barely had enough cutlery and cooking utensils for one person, on the second day we had to purchase pint glasses and a baking tray as there was none in the cupboards. the pool area was nice but required serious levels of maintenance, the drain in the walkway for the pool filter tips and it was walked over making a dangerous situation for anyone using it. the tile capping round the edge of the pool was hanging off in several locations and left sharp tile edges exposed, the gril in the bottom of the pool was a constant concern as it never stayed on the drain, it left a hole large enough for your foot to be caught in. 3 showers in the house, the pool shower run cold permanently, the communal bathroom shower never worked. the pool temperature was suppose to be maintained at 29c, during our 7 nights stay it barely reached 24c, i purchased a thermometer while in town to observe the pool temps as after day one i was convinced it couldn't be 29c. the pool cover was replaced at all times as recommended but this made little difference. during one particularly chilly damp evening it became necessary to turn the central heating on. the programmer in the upper lounge indicated the heating was on, but no heat was ever produced. there are examples of damp in the second bedroom, where mould is beginning to develop. the location and town were amazing as was lake Windermere. S24401 is over priced and under supplied for a self catering holiday let, all in all a big let down for our first visit to the lake district."

"Initial reactions “ Wow” this is great , lovely looking lodge , everything on hand for the stay , even dishwasher tablets, DVD to watch in case not much on Tv . Had a tour of site and was very nice. Unfortunately things changed quickly.Ensuite smelling damp and looked behind toilet and it was mouldy, we did try to clean it but couldn’t get rid of smell so we didn’t really use it. Hot tub was our main issue however, we used it the first day and noticed a strange smell , put it down to Chemicals and thought it would be noticed when it was checked. No body came 2nd or 3rd day so went to reception and asked as it was forming quite bad. Somebody popped a chlorine tablet into hopper. Tubs around us cleaned every day phoned our contact and told to either buy foamer or bung someone a fiver to keep it in check. He could get water changed but would cost him £50, I could go on but guess you get the jist of our stay. We have stopped in other lodges and they cleaned hot tub on Christmas Day. We saved up for our Summer break and feel let down.We left the lodge early."
