"Let me preface this review by stating, very simply, that Strathcarron is the most beautiful place I've ever been to in the UK. My fiancée and I stayed in this cottage for six nights in June 2015. The owners (who live two minutes' walk away) were quite wonderful; very polite and accommodating of our ever-fluctuating arrival date! The cottage is set far enough away from the owners' smallholding that we were never disturbed during our stay there; the garden is well-maintained and the drive spacious enough for a couple of cars (although we only brought one). The house itself is very generous, space-wise, considering the price. Both bedrooms are on the second floor (i.e. in the roof), but well-insulated and furnished in a modern style. The living room is carpeted and cosy and the kitchen perfectly functional; both are rather style in a less modern manner than the bedrooms, but they're well-kept, nonetheless. The choice of space heaters, E7 heaters and two open fireplaces meant that we could enjoy the luxury of a warm house thoughout a week of rather inclement weather, whilst still allowing us to enjoy a few nights in front of an open fire, too, which was nice. The house is perfectly situated to explore The Isle of Skye, the Applecross Peninsula and Glen Torridon; all are within 45 minutes' drive, which is practically a stone's throw away in this part of the UK! Gairloch is further afield, but still a feasible destination for a day trip, as long as you leave early. Local amenities are good.Drawbacks? Well, the lack of TV, telephone and mobile reception were an inconvenience, but soon forgotten after the first couple of nights. If we stayed here again, we'd probably bring our laptop and some DVDs, so that we had something else to occupy us in the evenings besides board games (of which there are enough to keep even the most avid gamer busy for a long, long time!) The midgies and ticks were also a nuisance, but that goes with the territory up here, so can't complain too much about that. I should also add that it was made clear to us that the house had no TV before our stay, so it wasn't as if there were any nasty surprises on arrival! All in all, we had a superb time in this cottage, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone thinking of staying here."

"A wonderful location, a well-equipped cottage and lots of wildlife were the three positives.Negatives were paying for the electricity used, reading meters and needing a cheque book or cash to cover the cost of this at the end of a trip. We found this very surprising given the price range of the house. It is in the Terms and Conditions that you pay for electricity - but this would certainly put us off booking again as we have never been asked to do this before. The cost includes paying for the various devices that are on standby and for storage heaters, none of which we used! This is an issue identified in a number of the reviews and does need to be addressed by the owners. The Wi-Fi was completely unreliable with very intermittent Wi-Fi most days which was really inconvenient as even on holidays there are times you might need IT access (general communications, bank matters, weather forecasts etc). If we had known this in advance it would have been useful – indeed we would not have made the booking. The owners do need to signal this as an issue in the Terms and Conditions. The last negative for us was unexpected ‘noise pollution’ on the day we left. We had packed up to have a quiet afternoon sitting outside the house when the owner came to strim all around the adjacent garden area and to cut grass - this was very noisy and drove us inside. To add to this noise nuisance, the neighbouring house then set about similar noisy heavy-duty garden strimming activity which went on until 9.30 pm. We had planned for an early night. Not exactly the peaceful haven we had hoped for on our last day. When we arrived, we had tried to contact the owner as per the instructions provided, only to learn that the owner’s mailbox was full. This lack of a communication line was also pertinent when we had the noise problem as described above – we texted the owners – no reply!!!Great location but many more negatives than positives for us."

"This is, by and large, one of the best places we have ever stayed at (and we do travel quite a bit).Lochcarron is a beautiful small village, with lots of walks around, and also great places within a short drive (Applecross peninsula is worth visiting, Skye,...etc).The cottage was impecable. Really clean, with ample spaces, lots of details, cooking books, sketching note books, a very useful auxiliary room with washing machine / drier. All works, all is clean and new. The owner replies to all the messages and has been really nice and helpful. The pictures don't do it justice. The bedrooms overlook a green garden wall which is really beautiful. It is close to the main road, but there are not many cars and those that pass by are quite slow. Just across the cottage there is the beautiful loch.I really do hope that we go back again soon."

"Whilst we enjoyed our stay at S73878 we had a few issues. - There was no remote control for the DVD player and it was missing the necessary cables to be plugged in to the TV. - Instructions for appliances weren’t easy to find. A quick summary in the house file would have been helpful. - The noise of the boiler firing up in the middle of the night woke us every night. - The kitchen tap was broken and had been inexpertly fixed. - There was a lot of food in the cupboards which seemed to belong to the owners rather than having been left behind by previous guests. - The property wasn’t as clean as it could have been. We did enjoy our stay and the house was very comfortable. Having a stayed in a lot of self catering properties in the past, for the money that we paid, we just expected a little more."

"The cottage is set in a most beautiful location and worth staying there for this alone. It is not quite as close to the waters edge as the pictures suggest but with still amazing views. The winter has taken its toll a little on the paint work outside but this could be sorted really easily. We chose this cottage as we have a very active dog and thought it dog proof, however, there is a gap top right of the garden where the gate is. I am a total neat freak and I appreciate many, many other people would not have noticed, however, some of the cupboards could have been a little cleaner from dust and crumbs. Again, I am sure this is more me than the cottage. Overall a great holiday with some fantastic views. Fully recommend the Kishorn Seafood Shack about 6 miles away for food."
