"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"Having stayed at Blackclough last summer in the same week and had a fabulous time, we were unfortunately disappointed with our return stay. The location is absolutely stunning. Remote, amazing walks from the door which made us want to return. However, the cleanliness of the kitchen in particular was poor. No tin opener which was frustrating and no tea towels although we managed to find some in a laundry basket in the boot room (which we did not have access to on our first trip). There was a problem with the water pump which was incredibly noisy and intrusive. Not sure if they had already been aware of the problem before we reported it. A plumber visited midweek but was unable to rectify the problem whilst we were there. So it was not a peaceful stay with noises through the night. The timing of our visit was just bad luck as plumbing issues cannot be predicted. The accommodation is cosy and comfortable, well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the wildlife with sheep peering through your front door and a hare spotted through the bathroom window. A 15 min walk down to Three Shire Head bridge with waterfall and plunge pool - a must! So much to do in the local area with bike ride along the Monsail trail into Bakewell and stunning walks from Edale, the start of the Penine Way."

"Overall the cottage was just about okay. There were simple things that let it down.Positive-The cottage was in a good location for walking the manifold way up to Wetton hill and Thors cave. It was on the main road though and very noisy. It had character and the wood burner was good for warming the house up.The kitchen area was small but had good equipment. You would struggle to fit 4 people around table.Negative- overall cleanliness was really bad and comment book had many comments about this. The cushions on the sofa had lots of stains on them.Bedding was clean though.Main bed was uncomfortable and springs and electric blanket could be felt.Small tv which scratched our DVD and then wouldn't play others. The towels were too small.I wouldn't stay there again I'm afraid."

"This is a remote stone farmhouse beautifully modernised. It would be ideal for keen walkers. The owners have provided everything you would expect in a luxury cottage. However, it is not on mains water and the noise from the pumped system when you drew any water was irritating. Forewarned about the very steep access to the house, we were still rather taken aback by the gated, narrow, twisting tarmac track which has to be taken very cautiously at night, in a downpour. OK we were a set of 4 OAP's and I'm sure youngsters would have revelled in the adventure! We ate twice at the Knight's table pub in Flash 2miles away. Excellent value and delicious homely food."

"A lovely cottage in a picturesque location where you can undertake a hike right from the doorstep. A couple of pubs nearby but no grocery shops so best to stock up before you get there. The cottage is right on a road so there is some traffic noise but it's not overly busy. No phone signal (not unusual in the area in general!) and no wifi in the cottage (although there is wifi in the local pub) so send any last-minute communications beforehand :-). There's a nice outdoor area and BBQ, and a parking spot around the back of the property. A lovely place to stay for a few days and would stay again."
