"S16040 is generally a nice holiday cottage, just with a few issues. When we booked it it had 9.9 rating on Reevoo but I don't think it really deserves such a high score as it is far from perfect. We wanted to use the outdoor garden space but the lawns needed cutting really, and in general the outside areas of the property needed weeding. We had 2 children with us, and 4ft high stinging nettles were growing next to one of paths, so not great for playing outside! The kitchens (it has 2) were generally well equipped but we found the oven was not very good and was taking a very long time to cook food properly. I even looked up the instructions on line to check that we were operating it correctly, and we were. It was taking about 50% longer to cook food than it should have. The main living space is quite dark and gloomy, we had to have the lights on all the time or have the front door wide open to let some light in, but as it's a converted with limited windows I suppose this should be expected in some ways. A glass panel in the front door would make an enormous difference though!Worth noting is mobile phone coverage, it is very poor and we could not get any signal on Vodafone or O2 during our stay, even outside. Basic EE coverage was available outside but the signal was weak. The WiFi at the property is very good though, with coverage throughout and 30mb+ download speed was regularly available. The property lacks local information about things to do. We didn't find any leaflets relating to local attractions, and generally we were left feeling a little bit disappointed with the area in general as the village only has a pub and nothing else. On the positive side, the property was immaculately clean. The showers are good with plenty of hot water on demand. The heating was very good (a bit too good if I'm honest!) and kept the barn nice and warm. I would not hesitate to stay here in the winter, I'm sure you would be very cosy! The views and countryside surrounding the property are amazing."

"For the three of us, all over 60, admittedly, S101014 is now the benchmark other lodges will have to live up to and it is clear that the owners have not stinted in its refurbishment. The lodge is incredibly high-end in terms of the quality of the fixtures and fittings. The kitchen is superb. The dinner service and matching oven to tableware is just beautiful and encourages the user to make the table presentation for meals more like a five-star hotel than a holiday lodge. The saucepans etc are also good quality as is the range of cooking utensils. The main bathroom is excellent and the shower is big enough for anyone to get in easily. The showers themselves in the main bathroom and in the ensuite are identical, but the cubicle in the ensuite is more challenging for those who are less flexible. Two bedrooms have 5’ beds and the third is two bunk beds. The underfloor heating can be zoned, so that the bedrooms remain cool whilst the main room is warm underfoot. The furniture in the main sitting area is also good quality and comfortable with a pleasant view over the well-maintained garden and grassy area beyond. The outside eating area is secluded and next to the hot-tub. We found the adjacent lakeside excellent and the Rudyard Light Steam Railway, which runs alongside the lake is an enjoyable resource, although we found it fabulous for walking the dog early in the morning before anyone else was up. Within easy reach is Leek, a charming market town which has a substantial Sainsburys and a big Lidl will opening soon. 30 minutes away is Buxton and Chester is about an hour and twenty minutes drive. We loved it and we will be back"

"I usually always take cleaning products with me when I go on holiday but no need because the lodge was spotless. The attention to detail and the little extra's going that extra mile are what I feel make a holiday that little bit extra special. Soap, cleaning products, cloths, dish washer tablets,T.towels were all provided. It doesn't state that there is an iron and ironing board provided but there is. This lodge is beautifully refurbished to a very high spec. The beds and pillows are pure luxury are extremely comfortable, the best weeks sleep I've ever had. The kitchen goes beyond being fully equipped as there is an extensive range of crockery and utensils. We loved the heated hot tub, especially after long walks and despite the colder November weather, it was heaven to relax in the secluded hot tub. My two youngest children didn't like water on their faces but after a day in the hot tub, they both had the confidence to dunk their heads under water. The children particularly enjoyed playing with the giant Jenga game and the giant connect four. Set in a stunning, tranquil location along Rudyard Lake. Sainsbury's superstore is 7-10 mins by car for everything you need and Leek is 3 miles. Mathew (Matt) was the perfect host and he and Mark's hospitality was great! A lovely welcome gift of a bottle of wine on arrival was very much appreciated. Almost don't want to write a good review because I want to keep this little gem of a place secret! We will definitely stay at S101014 again in the future. Michelle, James and family"

"We stayed at kipking lodge between August 25th-1st Sept 18. The lodge us absoulety fantastic !!The lodge has been refurbished to an extremely high standard and there was 6 of us in total but there was loads of room for us all and the hot tub was amazing !! Great for relaxing and our Autistic son loved the hot tub so much wants us to get one! Lodge was spotless when we arrived and we was shown round by the owners Matt&Mark who are just lovely and were very welcoming . Really liked the additions of the washer dryer/dishwasher really helped after a long day out . The beds were so so comfortable as was the sofas .Big table and chairs also near the kitchen area was great as we always sit for meals together at the table ..loved the fact we were able to cook our own meals from scratch there as the kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need and very good quality. The surrounding area is lovely ..very peaceful and tranquil. Also canoeing on Rudyard Lake was fantastic at a really good price too. We visited Trentham Gardens which was amazing ..lots for different ages to do ..my son loved the maze! We also rented a Narrow boat for the day at Derby while wd were there (about an hour car drive from the lodge)but well worth it . Farm foods Asda Sainsbury Lidil and Aldi not far . The lodge was a home from home for us and are looking forward to rebooking for another holiday in the near future . We highly recommend S101014 just superb in a gorgeous setting . Thanks Matt&Mark"

"Unfortunately we had booked this property for two weeks because of the disabled/elderly ground floor facilities only to find they were not fit for purpose. My elderly parents could not go upstairs so were unable to use the shower facility for the whole two weeks and could only use the toilet facility after a plumber had capped off the shower half way through the first week. The owner did not seem to understand the impact this had on us and there was no apology given. The property is fine for people on a weekend let but as there are no change of sheets or towels not really fit for longer...we washed the bedding /towels as we were there unfortunately for two weeks. The two rubbish bins in the kitchen area did not have lids so we had to deal with many flys when we first got there...we managed to make makeshift lids which helped. The bedroom with bath with shower over did not have a shower slip mat to use in the bath so was to be used with care. There are no recycling facilities at this property it all had go into one very large refuse container on wheels which we wheeled out with difficulty for a Wednesday collection not Thursday as stated in house detail. The washing machine drums were well used so had sharpe metal indents which snagged clothes which we found to our cost.. We left the property cleaner than we had found it and have never experienced the response I received from the owner at any other properties I have booked with Cottages.com in the past."
