"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"We had a fantastic holiday in S16041 - really relaxing and welcoming. There were the two of us and our 2 year old and 6 year old and they had a great time too. The place is comfortable and feels well looked after. The kids loved playing with Holly and Meg (the dogs), as well as admiring the ponies and cows in nearby fields. I loved playing with the Pizza oven. I never quite got it right, but I think that's down to practice more than anything. They definitely tasted better than the frozen ones! There's loads of things to do in the area that aren't too far away. We would definitely recommend the National Memorial Arboretum (surprisingly great for young children) which was about 20 minutes drive. We're National Trust members, so we spent a lot of time visiting those properties, and there's plenty to chose from. There's no Wi-Fi and very patchy mobile signal, which is great for feeling disconnected from the world, but did cause a slight hiccup when we couldn't check that somewhere was open (it was closed cause of high winds!) so we nearly had a wasted journey. The DVD player was also rather complicated to figure out!"

"A lovely location and a beautiful part of the world. The accommodation is small but quirky and well-designed overall. There were a few touches missing which might be nice to add to make the place feel really special, eg. larger bath towels; some chopping boards in the kitchen; a cloth to wipe down the kitchen surfaces; clean and comfortable cushions to go in the outside chairs (the ones in the utility building were in very poor condition); a large mirror in the bedroom near a power socket; an outdoor dining table so you can have a proper meal out there (there is a small table but it is only suitable for cups or glasses); a folder of information on the location and nearby things to see and do - instead of the pile of leaflets by the staircase and visitors' notes on which pubs they had enjoyed. Also, we bought some feather pillows in Leek as the pillows provided were foam and lumpy and very uncomfortable.During our stay the Wifi was not working for half of the week (though Joe did get it fixed) and the tumble drier was not working at all."

"The children and I enjoyed the pool. This was the main reason for staying. We felt it could have been open longer than 6pm.Inside the cottage I was disappointed to see there was no dishwasher and I had to wash all crockery before use. The hob was useless as the dials had no indication if how hot the hob was. I spent a lot of time with them all at different positions moving pans around to cool food. Very frustrating.I noticed that this negative was on a previous review and still nothing has been done. A bit complacent. The bathroom was dirty and needs an upgrade. As there was lots of flies due to the horses in the field, maybe fly screens on the windows as this was another off putting feature.I would not stay again as felt that it was definitely overpriced and not worth the price I paid."

"Fantastic place to stay for our week away with the little guy and rest of the family. The pool added that extra piece of 'holiday' to our stay and was clean and heated. Cooking facilities and utensils were all catered for. Beds were comfy and it was very quiet at night time. Shower was hot every time we used it. The nearby road had minimal traffic and suitable for walking the dog on a lead. Within a mile, there was a public area to let the Dog off the lead to have a good run around. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and they were approachable if we needed anything. Only slight criticism for Peacock Cottage is the second bedroom is a bit tight for space. However, we got used to it after a couple of days. Would stay here again."
