"We booked this cottage for a special, long-awaited child-free weekend to celebrate my husbands 40th. We've not had time away just the two of us in several years so we were really looking forward to complete rest and long lie-ins. We had the luxury of a Friday to Monday stay. The cottage is on the first floor and we had very quiet neighbours below. It is attached to the pub which I wasn't expecting but the pub is small and we didn't hear any noise, and we were there over the weekend. The pub is situated on a busy road with speeding traffic so be aware that the sound of traffic is quite loud. We live in very quiet suburb in Kent with virtually no traffic noise so it took some getting used to but may not bother others who are used to it. The cottage has been beautifully and tastefully decorated. The rusticity of exposed beams, beautiful oak floor and stunning oak doors add country charm which is completed with themed accessories. The large skylight windows add natural light which is also wonderful. There was one major drawback and that is the large skylight window overlooking the beds in the bedroom. To me, one should expect appropriate window dressing for a good nights sleep. However the room was full of light at daybreak and given we were so looking forward to child-free lie-ins this was a major disappointment. The owner did not seem to appreciate our feedback saying "No-one has mentioned it before" but the following morning at our request provided us with black bin liners and a step ladder so we could do our best to cover it up...which we did. There was no offer to help us fix this most obvious problem. There are also small green lights (perhaps emergency lighting) which fill the room with light during the dark too. So for us child-free parents, imagining deep sleep and long-lie-ins, it was disappointing indeed. A definite no-no for anyone with young children who will wake with the light. For early risers, not a problem, enjoy! The property is advertised as having wi-fi but we could not access working wi-fi on the cottage side. Annoying as I had some work to do but not a problem if you want a tech-free weekend. We had taken our AppleTV along and especially subscribed to NetFlix to enjoy some movies so that was disappointing. But there are freeview channels and you can check email/send texts etc in the pub on the main wifi connection. We did have a wonderful weekend but I would urge the owner to install a blind on the window which is only reasonable to expect and improve the wifi connection if it is to be advertised."

"We stayed here as part of a group reunion we organise every year. The property is modern and well presented and immaculately clean. It's well kitted out in the kitchen and all bedrooms have an ensuite. Bedrooms are comfortable too and there is underfloor heating. Lots of hot water and good showers, plus a fantastic large bath on the upper floor. The views over the countryside are lovely, the open wild flower field at the back is great and there is a lovely large open garden space which would be excellent for kids to run around in. The cottage is very quiet, especially at night and it's easy to listen to the wonderful bird life around. We were disappointed at the welcome pack and folder. The pack was six ferrero rocher and a bottle of wine. Whilst that is always well received, including something such as a local cake or a packet of biscuits is much more useful and welcome, so that you can enjoy those with your first cuppa on arrival. The folder had all the info you need for the property, however there was nothing about things to see or do in the local area except for a leaflet about the National Memorial Arboretum. Very few recommendations for places to eat out or shop either. There are no games or books at all at the property so it was good we had brought some with us. Having these is a nice touch and always well received.WiFi is slow, however the owners are awaiting BT to upgrade the connections as the rural area becomes better connected. It does work though, although we had problems streaming the football final from BT sport.Seating area in the lounge could be better. As the property sleeps six the seating should better reflect that. Replacing the current L shaped sofa with two three seaters would be a vast improvement as the current offering is not comfortable to sit or lounge on for any period of time when six of you are there."

"Owners were very friendly and the cottage was comfortable. Beds were fine. Showers were ok but could do with a lot more power. Fridge very small for a 3 bedroom property and we found that it was either not cold enough or frozen at the back. Equipment provided in the kitchen was more basic than we had experienced in previous holiday cottages. Absolutely no kitchen supplies such as vinegar, ketchup etc left from previous guests. This is the first property we have stayed at where the cupboards were bare. Non stick coating on the pots and pans were badly damaged and needed replacing. We bought our own utensils and pots and pans on the first day. We left those at the property. As the property is listed as luxury we had high expectations. Location is ok, lots of towns and national trust properties within a short drive. Description of the cottage states that there are fantastic walks form the property but we didn't really find this to be the case and very little information provided in the welcome pack. It is possible to search on google but more personal information on the local area from the owners would have been appreciated. Bike racks would have been nice to have.Very little in walking distance but we didn't mind as we went out every day. Tiny convenience store, post office and a local pub. We didn't try the pub as the reviews on tripadvisor were so bad.Great cycle trails at Cannock Chase and lots of national trust properties to visit with dog friendly walks. Towns nearby all worth a visit. We enjoyed our visit and found lots to do."

"One of the few premises I have been in where the photographs on-line don't do justice to the size of this property. Bright, comfortable and well fitted, and impressive interior design. The hamper provided was also very good.Staff on the estate were friendly, helpful and cheerful. Food in the restaurant was very good, and the cafe was very pleasantLoss of a star for the following issues. We rarely felt warm in the bathroom, and adjustment of the temperature was too complex for this technophobe. Also, as the shower has an open end, it ***** in cold air, so it wasn't a comfortable experience. First use of it, on full, resulted in flooding part of the bathroom. It therefore wasn't possible to have it on full.I felt the heavy shutter screen provided to give some privacy across the front door, could be considered a hazard in the event of attempting to escape a fire. Wouldn't vertical blinds be better? They can also be drawn across. One of the exterior lights, at the bathroom end, is low and I banged my head on it. The two either side of the front door are higher, so why not this one? Finally, the A5 road is alongside, and although it did not affect our sleep I can see that in summer, sat on the terrace the noise could intrude."

"A lovely location and a beautiful part of the world. The accommodation is small but quirky and well-designed overall. There were a few touches missing which might be nice to add to make the place feel really special, eg. larger bath towels; some chopping boards in the kitchen; a cloth to wipe down the kitchen surfaces; clean and comfortable cushions to go in the outside chairs (the ones in the utility building were in very poor condition); a large mirror in the bedroom near a power socket; an outdoor dining table so you can have a proper meal out there (there is a small table but it is only suitable for cups or glasses); a folder of information on the location and nearby things to see and do - instead of the pile of leaflets by the staircase and visitors' notes on which pubs they had enjoyed. Also, we bought some feather pillows in Leek as the pillows provided were foam and lumpy and very uncomfortable.During our stay the Wifi was not working for half of the week (though Joe did get it fixed) and the tumble drier was not working at all."
