"This cottage is set in a lovely location overlooking the canal. The shop across the road caters for your needs for a paper in the morning, however, it is quite expensive for other items. The pub across the road is also perfect if you dont want to cook and you can sit out and watch the goings on! The area does get very busy for parking during the day so it is lucky that the cottage has its own parking.Although the cottage was clean when we arrived, it could have been done to a better standard. A nice gesture would be to have a 'start up' or 'welcome' kit for when new guests arrive to ensure they have toilet rolls, kitchen roll and maybe some milk, eggs, bread, tea and coffee etc at least for the first couple of days. We have had this in previous holiday cottages. We would advise anyone to use the kettle which goes on the stove rather than the electric kettle as this was full of limescale. Would suggest a larger fridge would be suitable to cater for 8 people. The grill tray which is in the oven needs a good clean (we ended up going out and buying foil trays to use in the grill and a new frying pan) - suggest the utensils and pots and pans be upgraded / increased in quantity to be suitable for 8 guests. The cottage is advertised for 8 people, however, the main table in the kitchen/dining area seats 6 as standard - there are spare chairs but you would struggle. Similarly with the seating on the balcony - there is seating for 4 people with the table and chairs, spare chairs are available but space is limited. BBQ is in need of a clean if you wanted to use it. More ambient lighting needed upstairs so you dont have to have the main light on in the evenings. The bedrooms are quite spacious for the size of the property, make sure you take your own coat hangers though! One thing which did concern us is that the property seems to have a lack of main plug sockets and a lot of the sockets available are run off extension leads (one didnt work in the twin room which meant only 1 plug was available). Considering the size of the family room then more storage could be available in here.We had read previous reviews of the property before we arrived, the one thing we do agree with is the issue with a leak in the bath when you have a shower, need to ensure you mop up when you have had a shower!! With regards to outdoor space, there is a small patch of land to the side of the property but this is unfenced so you would have to take extra care with younger children and animals. There is an area to the other side of the property, which can be seen from the balcony, however, this unaccessible and gravelled so not ideal for smaller children to play on. This area would have to be accessed by coming out of the front door, onto the road (which is very busy during the day) and climbing over a concrete piped area (not ideal).Overall, our suggestion is that this is a lovely cottage which needs some TLC and upgrading. Due to the location of the property I think this could be an outstanding cottage if some changes were made."

"Old and shabby we can cope with (with 5 kids in tow) but the cottage was filthy. The living room carpet had not been hoovered because the hoover bag was so full it had burst- it looked like the bag had been in there for 5 years. The oven was grim - old fat and burnt on stuff - I had to clean it to cook in it because it smelt really bad and it took some doing I can tell you - shelves all put through the dishwasher twice as the carbon kept coming off on our food. Kitchen floor was filthy - I had to mop it using really hot water and bathroom cleaning solution. Kitchen cupboard doors all stick and oily. Not nice.Balcony - broken mouldy furniture and bowls of spent cigarettes, BBQ used as an ashtray. Nothing had been cleaned or tidied away when broken. My sister and I stayed and cleaned it so that we didn't disappoint our 5 children but would not recommend staying unless you like cleaning someone else's mess.In the bathroom, the corner of the bath wasn't sealed (20cm long hole) so water went straight through the hole, down the side of the bath and onto the floor. We used towels to mop it up after every bath or shower. I fixed this with my glue gun midweek as I got sick of washing towels! The heating didn't work - owner got the boiler fixed midweek . They did give us cleaning fluids eventually and a cloth - I just think the owners have got too much on with owning the canal boats and cafe. Shame because the location is so lovely.Throw some money at the place for new curtains (they were all hanging off and grubby) and employ an external cleaning company and this could be a wonderful holiday location."

"What a fantastic location, a superb cottage and a lovely experience. We stayed there with some friends and their 2 dogs from Friday until Monday. The cottage is very spacious and well appointed with almost everything you would need. (For the things that you forget, the shop is right opposite which is open all day until after dark.). As we stayed during the winter months we had to buy fuel for heating as well as a bag of coal and a bag of logs which was extra to the rental. The cottage is situated on 2 floors of which the upstairs is the living quarters with a huge kitchen and lounge area with the big red comfy sofa . The real fire /log burner was fabulous and created a real cosy atmosphere .The bedrooms are down stairs and were adequate for our stay and towels were provided. The location is at a wharf where there are a lot of narrow boats and you can hire a day boat for around £80-100 per day. After a day cruising the canal, when you drop your boat back , you can nip for a pint and something to eat in the Junction pub a stones throw from the cottage. They do good food during weekdays and a delicious Sunday carvery for about £9. All in all, we had a superb time and would definitely go back to S16043. If we were to suggest some improvements, we would ask for an outside light on the balcony. Bigger, fluffy towels as the ones provided were a little small. Wifi that worked in the cottage as unfortunately none of our devices could connect......oh and spare loo rolls please! "

"We booked this at short notice so the cost had been slightly reduced - so for two of us it was not really value for money - whereas 4 adults + 4 children sharing would be more cost effective. The cottage is in need of updating - the decor/curtains in the bedrooms could do with renewing and the bedrooms would benefit from net curtains as they are on the ground floor. The cleanliness could be improved - I had to clean the sinks in the utility room & the bathroom , and there were quite a few webs around the place. Many people had commented in the 'Guest Book' about the lack of refrigerator space - we only just managed to store items for the two of us - so there would definitely not be enough space for a family with children and it would be a great improvement if a larger fridge/freezer was installed in the utility room. The double bed was quite uncomfortable (again many comments to that effect in the 'Guest Book') and some of the bedding in the other bedrooms was very creased. The 'WiFi' was not very effective at all!Having said all that - the cottage was in a fabulous location - right on the canal - and the staff in the 'Tea Rooms' across the road were very friendly & helpful. We had no hot water when we returned one evening and after a quick call - it was sorted out within 15 minutes."

"I stayed here with my family 12th/19th August 2017 and we had an amazing week Amy was warm and welcoming as she showed us around and told us not to hesitate to contact her if we needed anything which I did when the wifi needed resetting which was no problem she sent her partner within an hour or so to sort it out. We found it extremely clean and very comfortable. There were plenty of leaflets with things to do and see if we wanted to venture out and we found these very helpful, there were also plenty of leaflets for local takeaways in case we didnt want to cook and again we took full advantage of these. Although the cottage is situated on a busy street it didnt matter because its set right back from the road behind the electric gates with trees all around to make sure you're not overlooked while in the spacious garden. The hot tub was cleaned and given fresh water before we arrived, to my daughters delight. The games room/bar was used everyday by all the family so there was never any boredom. Highly recommend this cottage and we will definitely be visiting again."
