"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"An excellent setting for our short half term break. We wanted a quite area within a short driving distace from chidren activities (13 & 11, which are not easy to please!) and dog walks within the Peak District, and this place ticked the box for everything. We were fortunate that no livestock was around at the time of our visit, so the dog could run freely all over the surounding fields. These are fully fenced (for the livesock) which was extremely helpful for our adventurous puppy. In any case, there are lots of fields around where the dog can easily enjoy its time!As the evenings came, it was time to relax and play few board games (we brought these from home) and to watch a movie from the selection in the cottage. All very good recent movies, to suit all tastes.A really nice holidays, that everyone in the family enjoyed!"

"Nice cottage in a good location for Alton Towers and the southern Peak District. Plenty to see and do with walks and cycles on the doorstep. The cottage was very comfortable, well furnished and equipped. However, having wifi would make this even better as there is no phone signal at all anywhere in the village of Hulme End. This really should be advertised in the advert for the cottage. (We needed to be in contact with a hospital for our daughter)There was also a problem with flies. Every evening there seemed to be dozens of them hanging around the open plan kitchen and living room. Apart from this a nice stay in one of the warmest October on record. "

"We very much enjoyed our stay over the Xmas period at Tomfields Cottage . There was plenty of space and amenities for a family of 6 adults and 2 babies. Cottage was very clean and tidy and had virtually everything we needed. There was a nicely decorated Xmas tree and other decorations that made our Xmas a real treat. A nice and spacious kitchen with ultra big table made it very easy to prepare a lovely Xmas dinner. Double oven range was great and appreciated to make dinner celebrations run smoothly. Didn't use the log fire mainly due to the 2 toddlers running about, although a fire guard was supplied . Would love to come back again"

"We stayed at S16053 with two sons and their families and found the house very comfortable and well equipped. We chose the house particularly because it has lots of ensuite bathrooms and also because the beds can be made up as twins or doubles, which is rarely the case with holiday houses. The garden is lawned with shrubs and would be lovely to sit out in Summer. There is also ample space for children to play safely. Its location is very convenient for many attractions, National Trust houses and estates, forest parks, swimming, cycling and rambling. We had a lovely time and the family agreed this was the best house we have rented!"
