"Pros:Location was very close to Romsey village. There was a nice view if you open the front door. The two windows looked over the house. Within driving distance to many good days out e.g. marwell and paultons. The owners dogs are very placid friendly, although one kept trying to come in the property. The room was clean, the games room was clean. The jacuzzi was nice. Cons:Property is published as sleeps 4, do not go with 4 people. It is a maisonette with one bedroom. Bring your own knives (blunt and broken ones provided) and glasses (two tiny tumblers provided)The shower is very powerful and very good at heating up, although it points at the back wall, fixed it up with a hair band. There were a LOT of flies in the property, probably because of the horses stables beneath the property, so come prepared with fly spray. We went out to buy some. A lot of restrictions in place over Children and what they are allowed to do so it did not feel like home away from home. The trampoline is very close to an electric fence, although not switched on whilst we were there.Games room is next to other people staying (and they can hear you playing pool) so no late nights in there. A new games room is being built however, although a bit of an eye sore at the moment. We went in the pool twice, the first time the water was tested so we knew it was safe but you couldnt even see the bird mosaque at the bottom because it was so cloudy. SummaryFor a romantic weekend in the height of summer this place is lovely but you could probably find better, it is not really designed for a family break. "

"The house itself was very homely whilst still having plenty of space for 7 of us, age ranges 12-90 years and mostly provided everything you would need with just a couple of exceptions. With its huge garden being a space we used, it did get very hot in the amazing weather we had , sadly no sun umbrella especially for our more elderly grandmother.Be aware that the garden has a lot of mosquitoes which obviously can’t be helped so go armed with your spray and cream. It didn’t stop my youngest daughter from spending time with the horses who gratfully recieved her apples and carrots over the fence of the adjoining field everyday. The beds were more comfortable than other rentals we’ve had so we all slept well. Our knowledge of the area wasn’t enough for us to make full use of what was around us although we did get the ferry over to the Isle of White very easily. The sea city museum in Southampton was well worth a visit too with its Titanic exhibition and again a very short drive. Hamble itself had a few nice places to eat, couple of little shops and a place to sit a look at the boats.Overall we had some lovely quality family time together here and Sandra very kindly let us check in slightly earlier as no one was before us so thank you for that."

"A faultless stay from the moment we drove up the lane. The cottage was set in beautiful grounds with a large section of garden and woodland for us to use during our stay. A great private patio led into the cottage. Beautifully laid out inside, pristine clean, very comfortable with everything we needed to make our stay perfect (especially the lemon drizzle cake baked fresh by Marie). The bathroom was great with a fantastic rain shower. The bedroom had plenty of storage and the bed was really comfortable. Lots of brochures supplied with local attractions and Marie, the owner, was on hand to give us extra information on the local areas which were all easy to get to. Great base for fantastic walks, short drive to the coast or into Southampton and Portsmouth. Couldn't fit in everything we would have liked to do. Thanks for such a great stay."

"Genuinely the best self catering accommodation that we have ever stayed in, superbly fitted out in a truly wonderful location. Only minutes from the shops if needed, and in a rural Forest setting with wildlife visiting the garden outside your window. Watching the Roe Deer enjoying the fallen apples is a memory that will never fade.Marie the host is so friendly and welcoming whilst allowing you the space to enjoy part of her beautiful home. The decor is so well done and the cleanliness and attention to detail shows a real understanding of high standards, and the award recently achieved in well deserved.I cannot recommenced this cottage highly enough, we will always tell friends and family to use the Woodland Retreat as their base when visiting the area."

"We had a brilliant week at Woodland Retreat. The welcome pack was lovely and this is the best resourced cottage we’ve stayed in; everything was there that you could need. The main bedroom had plenty of room for a travel cot. We were ideally located for a week away with children and visited Peppa Pig World at Paulton’s Park, the Historic Dockyards at Portsmouth, Beaulieu Motor Museum, the Isle of Wight and Lepe Beach. We would definitely stay again although I would want to be sure that our youngest wouldn’t try to climb the bunk bed (she’s not yet 2 and was already climbing onto the first rung to get into the lower bunk). The local restaurants/pubs are great, a supermarket is a short distance away and it isn’t far to drive before you’re passing horses."
