"Very warm and friendly welcome from owners representatives, Patrick and Christine, who showed us around the premises and pointed out the various facilities and fire escapes. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean, modern and well appointed. Likewise the kitchen was well equipped and featured an Aga, which at first looked a bit daunting but was quickly mastered. The large lounge was excellent for the family to relax in, and featured a large screen television with a Sky package. There is a large rear enclosed courtyard for pets to roam in, but the highlight of the venue was the grounds. There are large beautifully maintained gardens with extensive manicured lawns beyond which is a more natural garden on tiered levels with numerous nooks and crannies, and water features. This area can be quite slippery when wet, and there are numerous warning signs to that effect. Rabbits were often seen frolicking on the lawns before disappearing into the undergrowth. At the rear of the premises is a bridal path that leads down to the village centre (10 minutes), and the excellent Ty Mawr Hotel where we had numerous meals at very reasonable prices (highly recommended, but remember to book first as it only seats about 2 dozen). We did have some passing tourists pop in to take a tour of the house having mistakingly interpreted a nearby sign stating ‘S5144 - country house and gardens’. Did speak with the owner, Caroline, who is an absolute angel. She not only has great business acumen, but wants to ensure her guests have a memorable and enjoyable experience whilst staying at S5144. I have to say that I would have expected to have pay a lot more for such high quality accommodation. Would have no hesitation in highly recommend S5144 for that perfect family getaway, although I still can’t pronounce the name!"

"This is a fantastic place as a base to explore this great corner of Wales. Locally there are a couple of pubs, about five minute walk away and a little supermarket in the village, take a torch though as when it's dark here it is dark! It is a great setting for a house. The grounds are lovely, huge lawns and some great rock garden areas to explore, the dogs we had with us were in heaven. The house looks amazing from the outside. It's hard to be too critical of such a grand house but it could be taken to another level, inside it just wasn't as grand as the outside! It was a little tired and would need some money spending on it, soft furnishings, sofas, new carpets, which were getting thread bare on stares. A jacuzzi and a good sound system would be great additions. The dining area also smelt of cigarette smoke but it was certainly large enough for us all. The Wifi never worked for anyone, good in some ways I suppose, all of us love a bit of surfing, it did of course make us more sociable though! In a rental like this all of the rooms really should have ensuites and downstairs another bathroom would be a good idea. The kitchen also needs a bit of attention, it wasn't the sexy new kitchen most of us love. It has two ovens, which were fine but the fridge was poor as was the sink, they don't belong in such a great building. That said it was full of character and charm, we had a superb time and don't let my comments put you off staying here or having your wedding, it was great."

"I booked the house with my partner and 10 friends to celebrate my 50th birthday and had a wonderful time in this beautiful house and grounds making happy memories. The house is close to the lovely village and beach and a short walk from 3 pubs. The house is full of character, tastefully decorated, comfortable and clean rooms. Kitchen fully equipped and spacious pantry. Bedrooms spacious, bathrooms lovely with plenty of room to find your own space. The extensive private gardens and grounds are beautifully kept. The house is well maintained and well equipped. We were very well looked after by Chris and Paddy, who with their team prepared, cooked and served a superbly delicious home cooked meal to top restaraunt standard. They dressed the table with flowers and herbs and it could not have been a more perfect setting for the unexpected added surprise of a marriage proposal. This was kindly followed the next morning, with a bottle of fizz and card from Caroline the owner. We laughed, we cried and had so much fun at S5144. It is a special week I will never forget, in a beautiful setting with loved ones. We all looked forward to the week and it certainly exceeded our expectations. We will return. x"

"Ten of us have spent the week running on the Welsh Coast Path and the house was great and in the perfect location. House - Great layout downstairs with plenty of space in the downstairs rooms to cope with the 10 of us all milling about. Good sized kitchen with plenty of crockery/cutlery. Two sitting rooms with TV's (one with DVD player and plenty of DVD's) and a dining room gave good flexibility for evening activity. Small utility room with washer/dryer was great for dirty clothes/shoes at end of the day. Upstairs the bedrooms are large, smart, clean and well laid out and with three showers there was never a queue. Location - just off the central square means everywhere in town is walkable. Nice pubs, nice meals in The Ship Hotel and Lemon Grass indian restaurant. Decent sized Co-Op but also great butchers / greengrocers in the square. Large park with riverside walk (and parkrun). Dolgellau is a main hub for buses in the region and it was easy for us to get to and from the Coast Path each day. As I write, Traws Cymru buses are free on weekends as well. Whilst we didn't walk inland, Cadair Idris can be walked from Dolgellau. I would thoroughly recommend the house and the town for a holiday base"

"14-17 family members including an infant and a few stayed only an evening stayed at this beautiful well kept manor. We stayed over the Easter holiday and had a truly wonderful time. The kitchen was well equipped to handle large meals for everyone as well as the large dining room table where everyone could eat together. The gardens are beautiful and we spend many sunny days (yes sun!) outside playing cricket and giranemo (giant jenga). In the evenings we would play games in the large family room. Everyone had plenty of space and they were so accommodating to my infant supplying us with highchair and pack and play. The bathrooms are lovely and you are within walking distance to town. This manor and the keeper, Caroline was absolutely amazing. Being able to stay in such a beautiful, loved home with such a large group was wonderful. There are several trails and hikes right off the property and space everywhere. I would absolutely recommend S5144 to anyone looking to have a comfortable, top notch stay in Wales/Gwynedd. And a bonus, Castle Harlech is very close and so worth the trip!!"
