"The cottage is a beautifully converted, and very spacious. On arrival it was lovely to have fresh yellow roses in the house, a little Easter egg on our pillows, wine, milk and fresh eggs from the farm - lovely touches. Overall the cottage was very pleasant. Owner rang me back with recommendation for a local taxi service as we were attending a wedding locally. Lots of board games the children enjoyed playing. One of the things that many past guests mentioned was the wonderful Yorkshire welcome - but we didn’t have one, we didn’t really meet the owners - we’d have liked to. On arrival we had a technical difficulty connecting to the free WiFi running on a hotspot, and asked for assistance with this. The gentleman came over but wasn’t too welcoming when trying to resolve and our only experience of the owners in person. Consequently, we didn’t want to bother them again over a couple of other issues we experienced - mainly the hot water supply running hot and cold in the bathroom/shower for our stay, which we put up with for the duration. The double beds were very, very hard - single beds were fine (I know beds are personal taste, but this was one step up from camping!). I’d also suggest that the kitchen equipment be looked at as for a family of 5, we struggled for larger pans and lack of casserole dishes, and some equipment. Overall, a nicely converted cottage, well furnished and warm, close to amazing attractions of York, Byland Abbey etc, but we won’t return here when we return to the area."

"The Cottage was lovely, spacious and equipped, with plenty nature on the door step and an art studio opposite! The hosts were very helpful on arrival! The upstairs balcony was a nice feature although we couldn't use the furniture, due to pigeon droppings on the furniture, excess feathers on the balcony and an over grown hedge to the side of the house, where the pigeons slept. The garden was very handy for our grandchildren to play, with a lovely enclosed duck pond and chicken pen. There was a barbeque in the garden for use , but again due to pigeon droppings it wasn't used. Overall the cleanliness could of been given a bit more consideration and attention to detail for guests arriving, as most of the dishes had a film of grease on them even before use. The owner did explain 2 days previously she had just returned from Cyprus, so in fairness I wasn't sure if it was her responsibility or somebody elses on this occassion. We would book again."

"When we arrived at Wheelhouse, we were immediately met by our hostess who could not have been more helpful. On opening the door to this immaculate cottage, we entered a spacious hallway and with billowing curtains...it was a hot sunny day the 1st week of June, so Sharon had opened the windows and patio doors to let the air circulate for us. It was perfect! a welcome, balloon, bottle of wine and other goodies were left for us. It was The nicest cottage we have stayed in. All 3 bedrooms were big, airy and comfortable. Excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities and the living room room/ kitchen opens up onto a private courtyard with table, chairs and an umbrella for shade. The cottage was beautifully and tastefully decorated, not too fussy with too many ornaments to break! all in all, it was a perfect holiday destination."

"Excellent break with very welcoming and friendly hosts (nice bottle of red waiting on arrival), cottage was spotless with a huge garden that our very energetic dog absolutely loved. There is a small shop 2 doors down which provides basic groceries although there is a supermarket in the next village along (4 miles away) if anything else is required and a great little dog friendly pub very close by that does excellent steaks. Lots to do nearby, we went to Eden camp which was very interesting and castle Howard is close as well. All in all very relaxing break and we will almost certainly look to return at some point."

"A beautiful holiday home.Simple touches made us feel so welcome ie fresh roses, half a dozen free range eggs, milk and wine.Spacious rooms throughout for 5 adults and one baby. Comfortable beds with clean linen and ample towels.Well equipped kitchen with ample crockery etc. Well situated for visiting tourist locations (car is needed)within just over one hour travel (Whitby).Nearer are Thirsk, Helmsley and Masham. We enjoyed BBQ X2 in the enclosed courtyard.only downside is the one bathroom but soon sorted a plan. Generally a really good holiday helped by great accommodation. Would recommend to anyone."
