"West End cottage is a very comfortable cottage set on a farm about 10mins drive from any local amenities in Kirkbymoorside. It is a lovely setting, with goats and chickens outside your back door. There is a swimming pool and a few gym machines just yards from your door. We were expecting a proper farm shop where we could get supplies but actually, all there was were fresh eggs available and a jar of jam on a shelf in the walkway. The shop was just a storage and preparation area, so not open for customers. Bit disappointing. On arrival, the owner had left the door unlocked so we could go in. In the kitchen there was a dirty mug with the remnants of black tea in the sink. When we opened the fridge freezer to put our food away, there was an old, half empty tub of ice cream. Not what you expect on arrival really.Apart from that, the cottage looked fairly clean, with a vase if fresh flowers on the table. There was a bowl with a few tea bags and a small amount of coffee and sugar, plus a packet of biscuits on the side. Sadly no milk though, so if we hadn't come prepared, we wouldn't of had a cuppa. The kitchen was fairly well equipped, although a pair of proper oven gloves would be a handy addition as there was just a tiny silicone glove which wasn't big enough to lift a tray out of the oven. (There wasn't anything to wash up with, so we had to buy a sponge)The kitchen taps leaked, which the owner said they had done for ages. Also, the radiator in the bathroom was leaking if it was turned off (which we needed to do, as it was like a sauna in the cottage on arrival!) It is a very warm cottage and we had to turn off all the radiators and open the windows. We asked for some sheets for the beds, as it was too warm with the duvets on.The towels were a little rough as they don't use a tumble dryer and just air dry them. My mother found them far too rough and had to purchase a towel out shopping. We didn't mind and they were OK. I suppose it's what you are used to.The beds were really comfortable, as was the furniture downstairs. The only addition would be a footstool to put your feet up in the evening. (One thing that most holiday lets seem to forget). I did take one of the dining chairs upstairs so I had a chair in the bedroom. The main bedroom has an ensuite shower and toilet. The showers were really powerful. The main bathroom was downstairs with a bath, toilet and shower over the bath. The only negative, was that my mum had to go downstairs to the toilet if she needed it in the night. (If you had children in the second bedroom they could use the ensuite in the main bedroom I suppose). There is plenty of storage with a mix of hangers in the wardrobes.Overall, apart from the few minor things above, the cottage was very comfortable in a lovely location. The owners were happy to assist where they could and very friendly (but not in your face). We would recommend the cottage and enjoyed our stay."

"Accomodation is extremely good and for a family of nine it is perfect. The large open-plan lounge/dining room with a lofty ceiling, ample seating (two sofas and three single comfy chairs and a large dining table, seating ten, is excellent. A log burning stove and guard and a good flat screen tv.Kitchen area could do with more storage space but then the area is not overlarge, good work tops however. The oversized hob extractor had us hitting our heads on it - needs to be higher or smaller!Access to the on-suite showers with the sliding doors was difficult due to the narrow gap and the doors easily fell off if knocked on entry. No heat to the towel-rails making it a problem to dry swim suits and towels after a shower or a dip in the swimming pool. We did ask but were told the boiler was not on this time of the year, but we could put them in the games room! The swimming pool complex, however, is very good and we enjoyed it every day.The 'games-room' now no longer has a table-tennis table and the resricted space (due, we assume, to this area now being the laundry building and hence very hot) prevented us approaching the pool-table in two directions to play. A very dated PC is available here along with a load of old mags and well used games. No seating - there's no room! This facility does not come up to expectations. We loved the garden-space with large table and chairs and the goats just over the fence, who were very friendly. A play area for small children is OK. "

"A lovely property but some areas are a bit tired, especially the kitchen appliances, for example the fridge did not have a handle, several lights didn't work including the hob extractor light, temperature markings on hob had worn off etc, tempremental two slice toaster was not acceptable for 10 person property. Also the whirlpool bath didn't work. We also expected to be able to look around the organic farm as mentioned in the property details but we were told on arrival this wasn't possible, and a farm wasn't the place for children. Having 5 children with us this was a bit disappointing as we had told them we would be able to go on the farm. We also expected there to be a farm shop as shown on the pictures where we would be able to get essentials such as bread, milk and eggs but this wasn't open and looked like it hadn't been for some time. Saying this we still had a lovely time and it there was plenty to do in the surrounding area. This could be a lovely property but for the price there needs to be more attention to detail and the property details definitely need to be updated to avoid guests being disappointed."

"Whilst we enjoyed our stay there, we had 2 toddlers aged 14 months and 11 months and felt the property was unsuitable for this age. There were 3 cupboards in the lounge/dining area easily accessible to these toddlers and were full of crockery. We had to empty them. One of the cupboards was glass fronted and we had to block it off. The kitchen was open plan and we had to block this off to prevent the toddlers going in. One serious hazard was the kettle. The sockets were at hip level and had a trailing lead, which the toddlers could easily pull, thus pulling over the kettle. Apart from that!! we enjoyed our stay. We were impressed with the fully equipped kitchen, although it took a while to get used to the cooker. We were not encouraged to 'participate in farming activities' as suggested in your blurb and, in fact, were kept away from the animals. We could not get in to see the rabbits or the hens. We rarely saw the owners to ask."

"We were thrilled the moment we opened the cottage door, it is absolutely beautiful. If you like traditional gorgeousness mixed with a little modern, this one is for you. It was very well equipped and we had everything we needed to make a three course Christmas/ 40th birthday dinner and enough living space for the 4 adults and 6 children in our 'party'. The owners were friendly, helpful and welcoming although we didn't need to bother them for anything as we had all that we needed. The children enjoyed the pool and were even included and welcomed in a lesson which we interrupted. We didn't use the outdoor space as our stay was in December, although we are keen to return in the warmer months so we can make good use of the patio and BBQ. Overall we had a brilliant time, Thank you."
