" Just back today having spent a week at Sweetpea Cottage. I decided to have a week away with the dog, to walk, read and find some peace and quiet. From the moment I stepped inside Sweet Pea Cottage, I knew it was going to be perfect. There is parking just outside the cottage and the walled garden at the back, which is accessed from french doors, is much bigger than the pictures portray. The wood burner was easy to use and logs were supplied by the owners, I was advised to help myself. There is also a washer dryer which is great when you have been on muddy walks!! There were plenty of towels, tea towels and essentials like loo rolls to get you started. There is a dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, oven and hob. The bedroom isn’t big but it has a small wardrobe and side tables, and is very comfortable with quality pillows and duvet with a view over the garden. There is Sky Tv in the cottage. Wiston is a small hamlet made up of houses, community centre and primary school, there aren’t any pavements however it is generally very quiet and I found no problems walking the dog on these roads to reach our preferred destination for walks. Both Lanark and Biggar are within easy driving distance. I thoroughly enjoyed my week at Sweet Pea Cottage and found the owners to be very helpful and accommodating as well as being lovely people. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sweet Pea Cottage. "

"It was a lovely house with a beautiful garden and we have enjoyed our holiday very much. The owners of the cottage were very nice and friendly people. What we missed however was some more information about the facilities and what you can do (without a car) in the surroundings, if you can walk or bike there. Around Wiston were not so many possibilities for walking and biking because there were only big roads. We discovered New Lanard, where we could go by bus, that was a very nice and beautiful place to walk and where we could do all the shoppings ( in Lanard), but we did not know it in advance. More information about were we can walk, do the shoppings, rent a bike, public transport would have been convenient. There was a busstop in Wiston but not a direct connection between Edinghburg and Wiston. We came by bus from Edingburgh, asked the busdriver to stop in Wiston (where he passed) but he didn't know were it was, missed Wiston and stopped 2 miles further. So we were dropped with all the lugage in the middle of nowhere. We could only get some information after we booked and payed and the owner also didn't know everything, because he has a car and is not used to go by bus or bike."

"Everything was so easy, we even recieved a text with our key code and when we got there, the heating was on, fresh milk and basic provisions were available for us. We felt right at home. We were delighted with the level of comfort in the cottage, the bed was so comfortable and the linen so fresh and clean. Everyone we met was so friendly and we were set right in in the heart of the village, so everytgibg was right at our fingertips. It was lovely and quiet, the kitchen was fantastic and the utility toom perfect for our pedigree cats....it felt just like home from home...in fact we were very sad to leave. We recommend the Keys pub for a drink and the Sciff Inn for a coffee and light bite. A real must is a visit to New Lanark only a 15 minute drive away. What a super place and the hosts did a great job making us feel relaxed and happy. A beautiful cottage and very good value for a family or three couples. We will return. Soon we hope."

"The photographs on the Sykes website do not do this little gem justice. The Old Doctors Cottage has a certain ‘feel’ that is not conveyed by a picture. It is warm, cosy, spotless and actually felt like home to me. It Probably one of the best rentals I have ever had in Scotland. Neighbours were lovely too and they too had a lot of nice things to say about the cottage and its owners. You get a feel of good community spirit in Douglas, there are genuinely nice people who live there. I must recommend a walk around the estate. I was fortunate to have wonderful weather and spent more than one evening walking down by the pond and the river. Cannot fault. Cottage and village. Lovely. Another great rental from Sykes."
