"As an expat of North Wales I wanted somewhere to bring the family to explore Snowdonia and to visit family on the coast in July 2014. We have used Sykes Cottages before and were very happy with their service and honesty! This is a lovely, really well equipped, house with direct views of Snowdon and Yr Aran from two of the three bedrooms. Five of us and two Labradors stayed there for a week. We loved it so much we're going back in October 2014! It is perfect for local walks and to scale Snowdon (without having to car and park). There's a marvellous pub / eatery within crawling distance. Rhyd Ddu has a Welsh Mountain Railway station about 300m away from the cottage.. On that you can get to Caernarfon or Porthmadoc and places in between. Everywhere you drive is beautiful in this area. To summarise, this is a marvellous place to chill or explore and the owners deserve a pat on the back for their attention to detail!"

"We had a brilliant holiday. The setting was fantastic with the view of the mountain, lake and, best of all, the steam train. Personally I could have happily spent the whole week just in the garden as all the rhododendrons and azaleas were flowering and perfuming the air. And that wasn't all, there were many other interesting plants such as a handkerchief tree. There was an abundance of visiting wildlife including some very tame birds including woodpeckers who fed from the garden table as we sat next to it. The highlight was the voles that came out and shared our breakfast. A lovely property."

"Cosy and welcoming. Playground 20 metres from house. Close to places we wanted to visit, but away from the hustle and bustle. Loved the fire place in kitchen and lounge, nice place to stay with children. Great for adults, pub just across the road! We wanted to stay longer. Do not forget your mountain bikes, some great rides to be had. Safe area to store bikes in laundry or small courtyard. No shops in Penmachno, however you can get supplies in Betws-y-Coed, which is only a 5 minute drive away. We would definitely come back, we thought it was just lovely."

"Really happy with this place. Was a beautiful place to relax, very clean with all the facilities we needed. A lot bigger than we expected from the photos. On arrival there were welsh cakes, bread, wine and dog treats which was a lovely gesture. Would really recommend this to people wanting a nice peaceful retreat. Only downside was the noise from people outside of the pub, but obviously this is out of the owners control and it wasn’t that big of a deal. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again."

"The cottage is lovely. Quirky and traditional in a lot of respects without feeling old fashioned. We had exclusive use of a large garden which has stunning views. The location is ideal for access to Betws y Coed and Llanwrst. The owners were very welcoming and very hard working. Our dog played with their two lurchers every day. Our two teenage girls loved our holiday and want to return to The Stables very soon. On top of all this, we had Sky TV, WiFi, dishwasher and washing machine. What more could you want!"
