" The house is very spacious, well kitted out, clean and quiet - and with there only being four of us, we thoroughly enjoyed having a bedroom and bathroom each. It takes about 2-3 minutes to walk to the lighthouse at the beach and from there you can walk several miles in either direction along the beach, which varies from rocky to sandy to slightly muddy (further out). Within a couple of minutes walk there is a small shop and a few places where you can eat or get a takeaway. There were a lot of things to do within easy driving distance including Sandyhills Bay (good for sandcastles, digging big holes etc even in rain and hail), Rockcliffe (nice walk up to a viewing point), Mabie Forest (very pretty mixed forest wood with good walks, the trees also protect you from rain...) and Caerlaverock Castle (triangular castle). We had very mixed weather but when it was sunny, the view across the Solway Firth to the Lake District was lovely. Even when it was chucking it down and somewhat windy, it was still good because you got the whole of a huge, huge beach to yourself (very handy having full waterproofs and wellies). There was also a small swimming pool in the caravan park which we were allowed to use at this time of year - and because it wasn't busy, we had it all to ourselves. Finally, the owner is great: she has gone well out of her way to help me when I accidentally left stuff behind. "

"Stayed here 29th Dec - 5th Jan 2013. We had a fantastic stay here and could not fault The Quare Place. The welcome we got from the owners was excellent, very knowledgeable about the area and couldn't do enough to help us. They have thought about absolutely everything with this property even down to having cafetiere's available along with every concievable kithen utensil you will ever need. Dogs are allowed downstairs and we had a baby gate that stopped them going up, they were quite happy downstairs as there is underflooor heating which they seemed to appreciate. There is a pub 200 mts away which has everything you'd expect althjough was very quiet (which we liked) at that time of year. The beach is great for walks and there are many fantastic golf courses in the area. The house is decorated to a high standard and there are plently of bathrooms, 3 of them en-suite. There is a great lounge room upstairs if you have kids, or for us so the blokes could play Fifa against each other. Outside there are washing facilities, and kennels in the garage if needed which was a great idea. The garden would be lovely in the summer too. Overall, I could not rate this place highly enough. The price was excellent and the standard too. Thank-you."

"The photographer who took the photo of the house made in look as if it stood alone when in fact it was situated right next to a working farm and Edderside was in fact a small conclave of houses. The house furniture was well used and the house had a fair amount of cobwebs, door handles in need of replacement or repair, showers not properly cleaned. There was a code for wi-fi but we could not get connected. Our group consisted of 16 and the dishwasher broken and looked as if it had been like this a while, however the kitchen was as described and shown in the photos. The first floor bedroom was cold and the radiator did not keep it warm, other bedrooms were the same. If your guests have any mobility issues do not go to this house, there is only one small toilet downstairs off the conservatory. There is an open fire but no wood supplied (advised of this) I spent over £40 on logs for 2days. This was my second experience of going to a country house the first house Craig Bittern in Dalbeattie (also on the Solway coast) was far superior Edderside Hall and cost half the price."

"We ve just returned from a week staying at this lovely cottage. We were greeted warmly at the door by the lovely Wilma, who even had the kettle on for us as soon as we arrived! I can honestly say that this is the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in- you name it, it was there. The rooms were spotless, beautifully decorated throughout, our two elderly relatives were very comfortable in their downstairs en suite rooms, and the upstairs lounge proved invaluable when there was football on the television, and not everybody wanted to watch it! The immediate area is not as great as the cottage, but there are some lovely places to visit by car, and the Quare Place is the ideal place to base yourselves, especially if your group has a wide age range. We have been taking our elderly relatives away for the last five years, and I can honestly say that this is the best accommodation we have stayed in by far."

"We got far more than we expected when we arrived, what a beautiful cottage with a stunning garden. We are a family of 5 with 3 children aged 11, 15 and 17 and this fabulous break ticked all our boxes! Our daughter loved the tree swing and the boys enjoyed using the football net and the surprise pool table! The gardens are enormous which gave us room for a game of nerf wars and hide and seek! We all enjoyed the amount of space we had (walk in wardrobes and a fabulous patio area). Loved enjoying the beautiful sunsets from the main bedroom and the large bubble baths with a great view was much appreciated after a day of walking up peaks! The cottage was in a great location and we visited Buttermere, Derwentwater, Keswick, Silloth, Maryport, Whitehaven, Whinlatter (Go Ape) and Edinburgh. We highly recommend this cottage as we definitely hope to return - Thankyou Gary for your hospitality!"
